    Abstract: The planetary tubing cutter of the invention provides a gearing assembly having a pair of ring gears and a number of pinions with a blade affixed to each pinion. The ring gears are parallel to one another and are individually driven. The pinions are rotatably mounted to a side surface of one ring gear and engage a sun gear assembled to the other ring gear. When the ring gears rotate at the same speed, the pinions and blades do not revolve around their respective axes, and when one ring gear rotates at a speed different from the other ring gear, the pinions and blades revolve about their respective axes, intercepting and cutting a tube passing through an axial passage through the ring gears.

    Abstract: Pixels in a picture image display device are driven in such a manner that while introducing light, a quenching period is initiated in which electro optical elements in the pixels are quenched after scanning a plurality of gate lines for displaying one picture image. In other words, the pixels are driven while interposing the light quenching period in which the electro optical elements are quenched between one frame and a subsequent frame. Thereby, the phenomenon of blurred edges at the time of motion picture display, when the pixels including the electro optical elements are driven through an active matrix drive circuit, is suppressed and the picture quality of the picture image display device is improved.

    Abstract: A roller cutter module for use with a rotatable tool carrier head of a lathe machine tool includes multiple opposed cutter wheels for transversely cutting tubular workpieces, and wherein the wheels are rotatably mounted upon support arms that are pivotally attached to a support plate that is attached to the tool carrier head. An actuating system carried by the support plate pivots the support arms so as to cause the cutter wheels to be fed radially inwardly to sever a workpiece. The actuating system includes a linkage assembly which cooperates with the support plate to enable equalization of the cutting forces applied by the opposed cutter wheels to an out-of-round workpiece. The cutter wheels are mounted on the support arms so as to biased against spring elements in an axial direction to track a cutting centerline axially away from the support plate.

    Abstract: An apparatus is used for cutting guide tubes of a nuclear fuel assembly below an end-piece and removing the end-piece. The apparatus includes a mount which may be removably locked and centered on the end-piece. Cutting tools insertable in the guide tubes each include a hollow shaft whose end part is split by longitudinal slits into radially expandable fingers each having a cutting edge. A stem movable axially along each shaft cooperates therewith for spreading the fingers out radially and retracting them. The shafts are mounted for rotation on a plate which is vertically movable with respect to the mount by a jack and carries a motor for simultaneously rotating all shafts. The shafts are carried by an expansion unit movable vertically with respect to the plate by a jack and including the stems. A method for separating the end-piece with the apparatus is also described.

    Abstract: A tool for cutting tubular or solid cylindrical workpieces such as rigid polyvinyl chloride or like rigid resin pipes, soft metal pipes, etc. transversely thereof comprises a main body having a bearing portion including a pair of freely rotatable members, a vertically movable cutter arm pivoted to the main body and provided with a pair of rotary cutters opposed to the rotatable members in corresponding relation thereto, a cutter arm lifting assembly for moving the rotary cutters toward or away from the rotatable members, and an intermittent feeder mounted on the cutter arm for rotating the rotary cutters in the same direction. The workpiece is placed on the bearing portion of the main body and set in position substantially at right angles to the rotary cutters. After the edge of one of the rotary cutters has been brought into contact with the workpiece, the cutter arm lifting assembly is operated to hold the workpiece between the bearing portion and the rotary cutter.
