With Tool Groove In Support Roll(s) Patents (Class 82/91)
  • Patent number: 6718853
Abstract: Some preferred embodiments of the present invention includes an apparatus and method employed for cutting a rotating log of rolled product into rolls, the apparatus and method utilized for preventing collapse of a longitudinally extending aperture in the log during the cutting process. The present invention includes a mandrel received within the aperture of the log to at least partially support the log and to preferably maintain the integrity of the aperture while the log is being cut by a saw blade. Preferably, the mandrel has at least one recess within which a saw blade can be received during cutting operations upon the log.

  • Patent number: 4267754
Abstract: Apparatus for trimming the end portion of a pneumatic tire carcass ply when the ply is mounted on a carcass building drum includes a cutting tool movable radially with respect to the drum and a backing roller that swings in and out of a position behind the end portion of the carcass ply. The backing roller thus provides a firm back-up for the cutting tool while it is cutting the carcass ply, but the roller can be swung to and out-of-the way position while other operations are performed on the carcass.

  • Patent number: 4096772
Abstract: A tire slitting apparatus for slitting tire carcasses circumferentially into segments comprises a frame with a tire slitting head mounted thereon to fit inside the body of a tire, and tire drive means to rotate the tire around the tire slitting head. Cutting means are mounted on the tire slitting head to slit the tire and external guide means are positionable against the side walls of the tire to guide and stabilize it during the slitting.

  • Patent number: 4072072
Abstract: A device is provided which permits the simultaneous cutting or bisecting of a plurality of tires. Large, vertically mounted, circumferentially slotted wheels each adapted to receive a circular cutting blade in each slot, receive the tires. The cutting blades are mounted overhead on a shaft which traverses a pivotally mounted beam which is raised and lowered by a piston. A brake is provided for engaging the tread of the tire, and tensioning means engages the lower rim of the tire to exert a downward pressure when the overhead beam is lowered. Turning power is provided to the cutting blades by means of belts or chains which connect a motive source with the shaft on which the blades are mounted. Collars on either side of the cutting blades engage the tire tread when the blades are lowered to turn the tire. A plurality of slots and corresponding cutting blades can be provided for each wheel with spacers to determine the width of sections cut from the tire.

  • Patent number: 4012972
Abstract: A banding machine for feeding sleeves of banding material onto bottle necks and the like when the sleeves are of tough material requiring use of a sharp cutting edge. The mandrel along which the tubular banding material is fed is formed to provide a radially outwardly opening groove at which the cutter cuts the material. The groove is closed when the mandrel and material are moved relatively.

  • Patent number: 4007942
Abstract: This disclosure relates to a device for the uptake of capsule parts. The device may include a female member having an internal cavity defined by a contact surface which engages the outer surface of the capsule, or a male member having an outer contact surface which engages the inner surface of the capsule. In each embodiment of the invention the device includes at least one channel opening into the contact surface thereof for supplying a source of underpressure or overpressure to the capsule. The underpressure creates a suction which facilitates the uptake and holding of the capsule, while the overpressure ejects the capsule from the device.
