Freely Floating Parallel To Axis Patents (Class 82/94)
  • Patent number: 5074018
Abstract: A method and apparatus for cutting pipes into sections are described. A punching unit (7) forms apertures (8) in strip (2) from which pipe (4) is formed on winding core (3). A cutting device (5) has a circular shears (10) which has a first, smaller-diameter cutting roller (13) and a second cutting roller (14) each having two cutting edges. The first cutting roller (13) is swivelled through aperture (8) into the pipe (4). Rotary movement of the pipe (4) effects cutting, during which the cutting rollers (13, 14) move in synchronism with the pipe (4) so that the pipe is cut from the inside and the outside by the cutting rollers (13, 14).

  • Patent number: 4727783
Abstract: A flying cutoff apparatus for cutting longitudinally moving and axially rotating tubing includes a track positioned along and generally parallel to the direction of longitudinal movement of the tubing, a carriage mounted on the track adjacent to the tubing for movement along the track, a cutter mechanism mounted on the carriage adjacent the tubing and stationary relative to axial rotation thereof, and an actuator, such as a hydraulic cylinder, mounted on the carriage for moving the cutter mechanism relative to the carriage and between non-cutting and cutting positions.

  • Patent number: 4706481
Abstract: An apparatus for cutting hollow, metal, spirally formed pipes is disclosed. The apparatus uses two passive, rotatable knife blades to cut the pipe. An upper knife blade is positioned inside the pipe so that its cutting edge is adjacent to the inner pipe surface. A lower knife blade is positioned outside of the pipe so that its cutting edge is adjacent to the cutting edge of the upper knife blade in the lateral direction, but is clear of the pipe and upper knife blade in the longitudinal direction. To cut the pipe the lower knife blade is raised until its cutting edge overlaps the cutting edge of the upper knife blade. The knife blades then puncture the pipe. The pipe is rotated through the overlapping blades to completely cut the pipe. Since the pipe moves spirally (i.e., it moves forward while it rotates), the knife blades are adapted to move in the direction of the pipe during the cutting process. This permits the overlapping knife blades to cut the pipe rectangularly.

  • Patent number: 4411179
Abstract: An apparatus for cutting metallic tubing into predetermined lengths has a stationary supporting frame on which is mounted a feeding mechanism for moving a straight length of tubing unidirectionally intermittently along a straight path in alignment with the longitudinal axis of the tubing. A cutoff device driven by a motor having a hollow shaft for receiving the tubing is also mounted on the frame. The feeding mechanism is in two sections each being individually reciprocable but controlled to operate oppositely and alternately to feed tubing in predetermined lengths to the cutoff device. The cutoff device is operated to cut off the tubing while it is stationary between feeding movements of the feeding mechanism.
