For reciprocating the movable shear element, which is carried by a slide, there is provided an actuator lever having a pusher member operatively mounted on its free end. The pusher member pushes the slide via an abutment thereon during the forward or cutting stroke of the movable shear element and, during the return stroke, via an air cylinder secured to the slide and held under constant supply of pressurized air.

    Abstract: The severing apparatus comprises a horizontal frame, a first pair of a lower stationary die and an upper swinging die, and a second pair of a lower movable die and an upper movable and swinging die. Each die is formed with a semicircular recess for receiving a billet. The first and second pairs are juxtaposed on the horizontal frame in the axial direction of the recesses. The second pair is slidable with respect to the first pair in the horizontal direction perpendicular to the axial direction of the recesses for severing the billet. The upper swinging die of the first pair and the upper movable and swinging die of the second pair are swung with respect to the lower stationary die and the lower movable die for receiving the billet.

    Abstract: The assembly is for shearing rod sections with a movable cutter carriage carrying a shearing blade between a resting position and a shearing position. A reciprocating impact head is used to drive the cutter carriage. The impact head is moved into contact with an adjacent end of the cutter carriage to effect motion of the cutter carriage to the shearing position. The cutter carriage is biased toward the impact head and the resting position to effect the return stroke motion of the cutter carriage. The contact of the impact head with the adjacent end of the cutter carriage is broken on completion of the return stroke to draw the impact head a predetermined distance back to a starting position from which the impact head is ready to strike the adjacent end of the cutter carriage with considerable momentum upon the starting of the next shearing cycle.

    Abstract: A hydraulic shear for bar stock including a die housing constructed so that the forces produced by the shearing operation are absorbed by interlocking joints. The structure assures that there are no welded or bolted joints in the die housing in a position to receive the stresses resulting from the shearing operation. The shear comprises a three bolster arrangement wherein a hydraulic cylinder is positioned between a first end bolster and a center bolster and fitted into recesses provided in such bolsters. The die housing is positioned between the center bolster and the other end bolster and similarly fitted into recesses provided in those bolsters. Top and bottom plates are recessed and interfitted over the die retainer end plates to provide an interlocking construction eliminating the need for bolts and welds in the die housing. Such arrangement not only provides a strong stable unit, but also allows efficient access to the dies, such as for die changes.
