Abstract: A hydraulic fine blanking head for a mechanical press and an infeeding method for same. The hydraulic fine blanking head includes an adjusting mechanism having an adjusting nut provided with an internal motion thread engaged with external motion threads on a main cylinder, the adjusting nut being turnable around a stroke axis, a sprocket wheel rotatable at a frontal surface of the adjusting nut, a hydraulic motor driving the sprocket wheel, and a brake for the motor shaft. Axial backlash between the respective motion threads is prohibited by a pressure generated by a flow of pressurized hydraulic fluid which also generates a part forming force in the head. A conduit in communication with a hydraulic system and the interior of the head delivers the locking pressure, locking the threads against the backlash. Removal of pressure unlocks the threads. Infeed of the main cylinder with regard to the ram is adjustable by switching the motor and the brake on and off.

  • Patent number: 6484613
Abstract: A method of punching a via or through hole in a polymer-metal laminate workpiece in a punch press. The punch press has a punch tool, a driver coil for driving the punch tool through the polymer-metal laminate workpiece, and a stopper for stopping the punch travel of the punch tool and mechanically returning the punch tool to its starting position. The method includes the steps of applying an electrical current pulse through the driver coil to electromagnetically drive the punch downward to and through the workpiece, and then elastically colliding the punch tool with the stopper to stop and return the punch tool on an upward return stroke. Subsequently a second, braking pulse is applied through the driver coil to electromagnetically brake the punch. The second electrical current is applied after the start of the punching pulse, for a time and magnitude sufficient to brake the punch press.

  • Patent number: 6253652
Abstract: In a web slitter of the type used for cutting continuous webs of material, such as paper, a top slitter assembly features a hub cylinder attached to its frame. The hub cylinder supports a freely rotating hub to which the top blade of the web slitter is mounted. The hub cylinder may be raised and lowered with respect to the slitter frame so that the top blade may be lowered to, and raised from, its cutting position. A toggle support is clamped to the hub cylinder while a pin holder is attached to the slitter frame. A toggle is attached to the toggle support in a pivoting fashion. Housed within the pin holder is a sliding pin and a compression spring. The compression spring resists the movement of the pin towards the hub of the web slitter. The pin may be extended so that it engages a notch in the hub. When the hub cylinder is raised, the toggle may be pivoted so that it abuts the end of the engaged pin against the action of the compression spring. As a result, the pin is maintained in engagement with the hub.
