Abstract: An apparatus for withdrawing a continuous band of multi-article skin packages from a skin packing machine includes a clamping device for periodically grasping the band and stepwise withdrawing it from the skin packing machine in a direction of band feed; a first cutter for severing the band parallel to the direction of band feed; and a second cutter for severing the band transversely to the direction of band feed. The two cutters can divide each multi-article skin package into smaller, single-article packages. The apparatus further has a punch for providing hanger holes in the packages simultaneously with the severing operation of the second cutter; a sled carrying the clamping device, the second cutter and the punch back and forth parallel to the direction of band feed. A control intermittently and simultaneously actuates the second cutter and the punch at predeterminable locations when the sled travels against the direction of band feed.
Abstract: A mat cutter employing a razor blade and providing protection against the blade's bending towards either of its sides. The cutter, used for preparing mats for photographs and other art objects, has a base upon which it sits and a section which slopes upward. A holder for a razor blade pivotally attaches to the sloping section and can rotate the blade into and out of a cutting position. When in its cutting position, the blade fits inside of a slot in the base and extends beyond only enough to effect the 45.degree. desired cut. The two sides of the slot prevent the blade from flexing towards either of its flat sides. With the blade thus surrounded and hidden from view, the cutter also employs a marking device that allows the proper placement of the cutter from a mat's edge to cut along a desired line. The cutter also includes starting and stopping marks so that it may produce a cut of the desired length using similar lines along the other sides of the mat.
Abstract: Apparatus for piercing an arcuate workpiece includes a frame, an index table rotatably mounted on the frame, piercing means horizontally adjustable on the frame with respect to the index table and a punch head movable horizontally into engagement with the workpiece mounted to the index table. A swivel clamping mechanism detachably mounts the workpiece to the index table.
Abstract: A laminated core manufacture wherein a plurality of apertured laminations are provided with projections formed from the portion of the sheet from which the apertures are formed to define an interlocked laminated stack. The first of the laminations is provided with a through aperture with the projection being eliminated so as to define a nonprojecting surface in the first of the laminations of the stack, with the projections of each of the subsequent laminations extending into and being interlocked with the preceding lamination in the aperture thereof. The punching apparatus for providing the apertures and projections is selectively operated to define either the formed aperture and projection structure or a blanked out apertured structure. The blanked out apertured structure defines the first of the laminations of the stack.
Abstract: A cutting board attachment is disclosed. The attachment has a plurality of cutting fulcrums which facilitate the ease with which a conventional knife may be used for cutting frozen foods and the like.
Abstract: A punching machine for use in punching holes in the sides of articles incorporating two C-shaped assemblies forming punching tool supports and guided within the machine in such a way that they can be displaced and moved away from each other. Means are provided for placing the assemblies, on the one hand, in a working position, in which the position of a punch tool on one of the tool supports is maintained at a predetermined distance from a guide plane coinciding with a guiding surface on the article to be drilled, and in which the spacing of the tool supports is maintained at a predetermined value, and on the other hand, in a position for rotation of the article to be drilled, such that each assembly is displaced in relation to its working position in the sense of an increase in the distance separating the two assemblies.
Abstract: An adjustable router bit for cutting wood and plastics whereby the depth of the cut may be varied through an adjustment means comprising a guide plate having a circular rotatable locating plate mounted therein and secured thereto and the shaft of the cutter head eccentrically located on said rotatable locating plate. The eccentric position of said shaft on a rotatable plate provides a means for varying the depth of cut of the router bit blades in a stepless fashion.
Abstract: A roll splitter apparatus is described for splitting a roll of paper or other sheet material using a cutter blade which moves substantially horizontally toward the roll core. A pair of generally horizontal extending holding arms are provided with hooks on the ends of such arms which engage a shaft extending through the core of the sheet roll to hold such roll while the cutter blade is moved radially inward toward the core to cut the roll. The cutter blade is driven by a fluid cylinder and has guide members which slide along the holding arms to guide the movement of such blade. The holding arms and blade are raised and lowered by means of another fluid cylinder in order to accommodate rolls of different diameter. A knife guard is provided which covers the cutter blade in its retracted position, such guard being raised and lowered by cams provided on the blade.
Abstract: A fret-saw blade in combination with a fret-saw for sawing out slits starting from small-diameter holes, the blade having two rectangular segments of varying width with each of these segments having teeth of the same depth and parallel toothed and untoothed sides, and a method for using said combination.
Abstract: A press having a frame with a fixed platen and a drive mechanism including two pairs of aligned crank shaft assemblies each having a bearing housing rotatably supporting an eccentric shaft with a connecting rod coupled to a movable platen to shift the platen relative to the fixed platen characterized by an adjusting device for each bearing housing which device can both independent and simultaneously adjust the distance of the bearing housing of each crank shaft assembly relative to the fixed platen to enable correcting orientation of the movable platen and to adjust the force and pressure of the press. In one embodiment of the adjustment mechanism, a pair of members having inclined planes are utilized. In another embodiment, a threaded shaft having a worm gear threaded thereon along with a pair of nuts is utilized for adjusting the position of the bearing housing relative to the fixed platen.
Abstract: A cutting apparatus for making circular or circular arc-like cuts in a sheet of material such as paper, cloth, leather, plastic, rubber and the like. A substantially planar base is provided to receivably support said sheet and a hinged apertured clamping plate is lowered over the supported sheet to secure it against movement during the cutting operation which takes place through the aperture. An arcuate arm is secured to the base and an elongated portion of the arm positions an internally-threaded vertically-oriented boss above the aperture. An externally-threaded member is operably received within the boss and includes an adjustment disc for turning said member to raise or lower same within said boss. A blade-positioning shaft is received within a vertically-oriented central bore in the member and includes a shoulder to secure the shaft for vertical movement with the member. The lower distal end of the shaft includes a threaded pin for being slideably received within a radius selecting slot of the blade.
Abstract: Apparatus for piercing an arcuate workpiece includes a frame, an index table rotatably mounted on the frame, the workpiece being mounted to the index table, and piercing apparatus horizontally adjustable on the frame with respect to the index table. The piercing apparatus includes a pair of tool receiving heads each of which can receive either a punch or a die and means for selectively fixing the particular head used to receive the die and for moving the punch receiving head into and out of engagement with the workpiece so that the workpiece can be pierced from either side. Roller means are provided to facilitate changing the tooling and a stock guide is provided which is reversible so that it can be used regardless of which tool receiving head is being used as the die receiving head.
