  • Patent number: 6767198
Abstract: A rotary cutter (74) is rotated by a motor (76) through a drive and a belt (326) inside of a combination guard and belt tensioner assembly (260). The rotary cutter (74) includes a cutter head (82) having integral blade holders (92) which slideably receive knives (90) in a channel (230) each having a detent (236) which is received in an aperture (91) in the knife (90) so that no fasteners or moveable parts are provided for holding the knives (90) and adjustment of the knives (90) is not needed or allowed. Guard quarters (266, 314) and a guard half (268) are held in a closed position by a single latch (325). • Patent number: 6644155
Abstract: An apparatus for dispensing and cutting measured amounts from a roll of web material includes a roll carrier disposed within a housing. A rotatable drum is disposed proximate to the roll carrier, with the roll carrier being biased towards the drum so that the web material carried by the roll carrier is frictionally engaged against the drum. The drum thus rotates upon a free end of the web material being pulled from the housing. The cutting mechanism is movably mounted within the housing external of the rotatable drum. The cutting mechanism is engaged by the drum along a portion of the rotational arc of the drum and is moved by the drum to a cutting position wherein a blade carried by the cutting mechanism moves across the conveying path of the web material and cuts the web material.

  • Patent number: 6253651
Abstract: A rotary knife cutter is provided. The rotary knife cutter has a flywheel to which knife blades are attached at the circumference of the flywheel. The flywheel is directly driven by a gear reducer that is directly connected to a servo-motor. The servo-motor may be operated to rotate the flywheel at a constant speed for cutting or the servo-motor may cause the flywheel to stop after each revolution to regulate the cutting desired. One or more blades may be attached to the flywheel depending upon the desired type of cuts to be made. Cutter bushings varying in size and cross-sectional shape may be utilized to guide a particular cross-sectional size and shape of material to the cutter knives.

  • Patent number: 6173631
Abstract: A method for precisely cutting a workpiece using a saw guide to guide a hand held power saw, the saw guide having a first upper sliding surface and an opposing flat lower surface connected by a first side surface, the first upper sliding surface being bounded on one side by an integral guide ridge, and bounded on the opposing side by a first side surface, provides for first customizing the saw guide to a power saw having a base plate with a side edge. The saw guide is customized by positioning the power saw with the base plate resting upon the first upper sliding surface and the side edge contacting the integral guide ridge, and sliding the power saw along the saw guide, thereby cutting off the first side surface and creating a side cutting surface having a lower cut indicating edge. Once customized, the saw guide can be used with the power saw to cut the workpiece, with the lower cut indicating edge indicating to the user precisely where the power saw will cut the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 5165314
Abstract: A method and apparatus for longitudinally slitting a continuously moving shingle of sheets of corrugated paperboard includes a thin, circular rotary slitting blade cooperating with a lower roller assembly which supports the underside of the moving shingle and provides a firm surface to support the shingle against the upper rotating slitting blade. The roller assembly includes an annular circumferential slot in its outer surface through which an edge portion of the upper cutting blade travels with the shingle firmly supported by the roller surfaces on each side of the slot. In an embodiment of the invention for slitting a shingle of preformed knocked down boxes, the lateral edges of the advancing shingle are aligned and the shingle is held for movement into the slitting blade, resulting in extremely good registration and slit quality.

  • Patent number: 5050471
Abstract: A cigarette rod which is repeatedly severed by the orbiting knife of a cut-off is supported by a tubular guide which has a slot for the knife and is moved with the rod in the course of each severing operation to thereupon move back to a starting position. The guide is rigidly connected to and is moved back and forth by the head of a connecting rod which is driven by an eccentric pin and is fixedly connected to the upper end of a single leaf spring. The lower end of the leaf spring is affixed to a stationary support. The head of the connecting rod moves the guide forwardly while the pin advances along the lower portion of its circular path, and the internal surface of the guide is designed in such a way that it supports the rod from below during severing but is spaced apart from the rod during movement to starting position.

  • Patent number: 4784029
Abstract: A sawing method involving in one direction continuously driven saw blades (1, 2) or saw wheels, according to which two saw blades (1, 2) or saw wheels are arranged in an adjacent position to each other, with associated saw teeths extending in an opposed relationship to each other. The saw blades (1, 2) or the saw wheels are thereafter caused to perform a continuous movement in opposite directions to each other in the operative direction for each saw blade (1, 2) or saw wheel, whereby same in a common and co-acting operation take up a saw cut in a workpiece. In order to maintain the saw teeths of the saw blades (1, 2) or the saw wheels separated from each other during a sawing operation, a pneumatical or hydraulical medium under pressure is advantageously supplied against the adjacently located surfaces of the saw blades (1, 2) or the saw wheels during the sawing operation.

  • Patent number: 4114493
Abstract: A cutter for cutting continuous stock materials into discrete lengths is disclosed. The cutting device includes a plurality of rotatable cutting tools or blades extending transversely across a cutting zone. The cutting tools are mounted in a common plane, are intermeshed, and are synchronously driven in opposite directions. The cutting zones of the intermeshed cutting tools overlap and thus the cutting device is capable of performing the cutting operation by movement in one direction through the material being cut. The cutting tools have opposed segments that carry cutting edges. In one form of tool, the cutting edges are spaced from the axis of rotation of the cutting tool by a distance that continuously increases in a direction opposite the direction of rotation of the cutting tool. This change in distance can be related to the speed of rotation of the cutting tools and the speed at which the cutting tools are advanced through the material being cut.

  • Patent number: 4051759
Abstract: An elongated hollow miter box embodying spaced-apart top and bottom walls has its ends bevelled on a 45.degree. bias. A pair of fixed guide edges on the top wall of the box are parallel to the bevelled ends and serve to guide the usual slide shoe of a portable electric saw over the top wall to effect a 45.degree. cut through either end of a wooden molding or other strip which is positioned and held on the bottom wall of the box. Near one end of the box, a transverse cross cut in the top wall cooperates with an auxiliary guide piece which, when placed on the top wall, presents an edge which guides the saw shoe transversely over the top wall and enables a 90.degree. cut to be made in the wooden strip. An opening in the medial region of the top wall affords finger access to the molding or other wooden strip for steadying purposes during making either a 45.degree. or a 90.degree. cut.
