Plural Tools With Same Drive Means Patents (Class 83/618)
  • Patent number: 4867022
Abstract: A device for producing perforations in a flexible rack. With mechanical drive systems a "rack" is a linear element used with a rotary element whereby linear and rotary motions are displaced. The flexible rack processed by this invention consists of a tape having a cross-sectional curvature. It is thin, rigidly straight, resilient and used for "interconverting" (mutually converting or equally displacing) linear and rotary motions. A method is taught for perforating a rack along its length. Perforations are produced whil the rack is bent radially and flattened laterally corresponding to a position with which the rack will be used when "interconverting linear and rotary motions.

  • Patent number: 4757733
Abstract: A punch main body, consisting of a base portion and a support portion, is formed from one or two extruded profiles, for example of aluminium. Respective end plates, for example of moulded plastics, are preferably fitted to the ends of the profile (5) to maintain overall strength and rigidity so that the thickness of the extruded material can be reduced. A pivotal press bar, which may also be an extruded profile, is effective to move cutting tools downwards through openings in the punch main body. The length of the extruded profile (5) and the positioning thereon of the openings for the cutting tools can be varied without the need for new production moulds, thereby simplifying and reducing the cost of production of a range of different sizes of punch.

  • Patent number: 4745833
Abstract: Frame members of the apparatus mount cutter assemblies that are aligned by relative adjustive movement of the frame members with edges of a cutout that is to be cut from sheet material. The adjustive relative movement of the frame members additionally effects adjustment of the relative positions of the cutter assemblies and associated cam members also carried by the frame members. This in turn causes the cuts made by the cutter assemblies to be of the same length as the therewith aligned cutout edges. The apparatus preferably further includes clamping members that engages the sheet material during each cutting operation, and drive components for imparting desired motions to the various movable components of the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4620468
Abstract: In order to drive a punching machine electrically, with the aid of a double-armed rocker (70) a translational motion for the compression beam (10) is generated on the one hand, and a rotary motion for an opposing drive on the other hand. On the one side, the double-armed rocker (70) is driven by a rotating clutch shaft (50) by way of a crank gear (60-66) and, on the other side, a chain link (73) serves to control the compression beam. The opposing drive is operated by means of a one-arm rocker (75) and, also, by means of a chain link (76). To ensure the execution of an exact cycle, an engaging and disengaging claw clutch (31, 36) is present. The cycle is maintained by a cam disk arrangement (51) on the one hand, and a coupling groove (37) on a coupling box (32) with a coupling bolt (38), on the other hand. The above provides the electric drive for a rectilinear punching machine for punching sheets of paper for mechanical binding systems.

The apparatus includes a mechanism for simultaneously moving a plurality of lengths of wire which are held in spaced relation to one another to a severing position. The wires may be arranged in both horizontal and vertical planes. At the severing position, a shear is provided for simultaneously severing end portions from the lengths of wires to form a plurality of short wire terminals. The shears and an anvil support the terminals and maintain them in spaced relation to one another after severing for insertion into the preformed openings in the plastic part. The apparatus further includes a tool which supports the plastic part. A slide moves the plastic part and the terminals into engagement with one another to thereby embed the terminals in the preformed openings of the plastic part.

  • Patent number: 4166404
Abstract: Described is a hand punch which can be constructed in a narrow compact form and of few and simple parts. It includes a narrow base formed with a plurality (e.g. two) punch pin openings in a straight line along the length of the base, a pair of lever arms pivotably mounted at opposite ends of the base on pivotal axes parallel to the width of the base, and punch pins received in openings in the lever arms and arranged such that a manual force applied to one of the lever arms to move same towards the base, also moves the other lever arm towards the base, and the plurality of punch pins through the openings in the base. The base is preferably constructed of a multi-leg channel member elongated in the direction of its length, the channel member having four spaced legs, the lower two of which define a compartment for receiving the paper chips, and the middle two of which define a slot for receiving the paper sheet to be punched.

  • Patent number: 4156377
Abstract: A single fluid power operated piston connected to a tool operating arm pivoted intermediate its opposite ends, undergoes movement through a predetermined stroke between limit positions to alternately perform punching and shearing operations at spaced stations along a common support bed of a metal working machine. The tool operating arm is held in one of its limit positions by the piston device under control of a selector valve while a foot pedal operated valve is displaced against a spring bias by the operator to effect powered displacement of the piston device to the other limit position in order to effect either a punching or shearing operation depending on the position of the selector valve. A shearing operation may also be performed through a second shear arm pivotally connected to the frame and actuated by the piston device.
