Abstract: A trimmer to cut a backing on which an overlay is mounted. The trimmer includes cutting blades and a removable fence that has a stop. The fence is carried by a pair of risers that are capable of moving relative to the work surface. A rotatable lever arm is coupled to the risers by a linking cam rod. When the lever arm and linking cam rod are rotated in a first direction, the risers move upwardly from the work surface and the stop of the fence is lifted upwardly and off the work surface to create a gap that enables the backing to move past the fence to the cutting blades to be trimmed. When the lever arm and linking cam rod rotate in an opposite direction, the risers move downwardly toward the work surface, and the stop is lowered against the backing to prevent the overlay from moving to the cutting blades.

Abstract: A power tool comprises a crank pin that is eccentrically rotatable by a motor about a rotational axis. A non-rotatable first slider is linearly reciprocated by the crank pin so as to linearly reciprocate a tool. An eccentric pin is disposed substantially diametrically opposite of the crank pin relative to the rotational axis and is eccentrically rotatable by the motor about the rotational axis. A non-rotatable second slider is linearly reciprocated by the eccentric pin in a substantially opposite phase from the first slider so that the second slider acts as a counterweight to the first slider in order to reduce vibrations at least in the direction of linear reciprocation. A rotatable component is rotatably driven by the motor about the rotational axis and has a center of gravity displaced from its rotational axis towards the eccentric pin so as to supplement the vibration reducing function of the counterweight.

Abstract: The present invention provides a technique for achieving weight reduction of the counter weight while reducing vibration in a reciprocating power tool. A tool bit performs a predetermined operation by reciprocating. A slider reciprocates to drive the tool bit. A motion converting mechanism converts a rotating output of the motor into a reciprocating movement of the slider. A counter weight reciprocates in a direction opposite to the reciprocating direction of the slider to reduce vibration caused by the reciprocating movement of the slider. A component part includes component of motion in a direction parallel to the reciprocating movement of the slider to cooperate with the counter weight in reducing vibration caused within the power tool. Thus, the weight of the counter weight can be decreased.

The hydrostatic bearing pads are supplied with pressurized fluid sufficient to create a combined hydrostatic and hydrodynamic effect between the opposed bearing surfaces of the pin and an associated bushing. The hydrostatic bearing pads are used in conjunction with rotational and oscillating bearings in which relatively little rotation, oscillation, or slow rotational speeds exist or where it is desired to minimize the effects of hydrodynamic action which creates bearing “lift off” on journal bearings. These types of bearings are particularly associated with crankshaft and connection journal bearings, connection pins, and pivot pins used by a rocker-type coupling assembly that couples a weight assembly to the press machine piston or slide assembly or drive assembly.

At their ends remote from the slider the levers are supported via threaded spindles at the frame of the punch press. Groups of link members are pivotally mounted to the levers. These groups of link members are connected to double lever pairs arranged symmetrically relative to the center line of the frame of the press. Every double lever is pivotally mounted to a pressing column. The pressing columns of a respective pair of double levers are mounted to a relative ram. Each ram is guided by three guide columns, of which two are rigidly connected to a ram and one to the frame of the press. By the symmetrical dividing of the driving structures and the two rams derived therefrom the punch press is given an extremely long space for mounting the tools without that the height of the punch press, the allowable rated output and the moving masses must be kept overly large.

Abstract: A cutter in which a reciprocating knife is driven by an eccentric mechanism. The knife has a drive portion that flexes laterally in a plane perpendicular to the drive axis of the eccentric mechanism. The eccentric drive axis is offset along the perpendicular plane away from the axis on which the knife reciprocates. The offset of the eccentric drive axis allows the flexible drive portion to be kept straighter during the downstroke than in previous cutters. The increased straightening provides greater columnar strength and reduces deflection and stress of the drive portion during the time the knife is in compression. During the upstroke the knife is bent to a greater degree than in the previous cutters, but during this time the knife is in tension, the tension forces opposing rather than aiding the bending. The offset therefore provides for a longer service life for a blade of equal size or allows a reduction in size and mass of the knife to maintain an equivalent service life.

A drive drives the ram upward and downward with respect to the lower blades and connecting rods couple the drive to the ram. An adjusting mechanism is coupled to the ram and the connecting rods for adjusting the lower limit of the stroke of the ram. Furthermore, the machine includes adjustors for adjusting the horizontal clearance between the upper and lower blades when the ram is in its lowered position.

  • Patent number: 4301723
Abstract: A swinging ram type cutoff press for severing lengths of elongated stock such as tubing is provided of the type in which a ram is supported for swinging movement to operate a cutoff die set. The cutoff press includes a power cylinder combined with a toggle link arrangement to produce the swinging movement of the ram. The relative geometry of the ram link support and the toggle mechanism coupled with the arrangement of the cylinder is such that a complete ram motion cycle is carried out during a single forward or return stroke of the cylinder. The force exerted by the cylinder and toggle mechanism is not resisted either by return springs or the weight of the ram, thereby further maximizing the usable power of the power cylinder. Accordingly, one may reduce the cylinder size requirements for a given application. In addition, the mechanical advantage afforded by the toggle mechanism provides for a maximum force at the ram full down position to maximize the force available for the blade stroke.

  • Patent number: 4241631
Abstract: The machine comprises an operating arm accommodated with a pair of horizontally extending shoulders and is rockingly supported by a pin pivoted on parallel vertical supporting standards or uprights for said shoulders and forming part of the machine bedplate. The pin may be vertically moved along slots formed on said standards or uprights. The working plane is horizontal and may be rotated about a vertical axis and with said shoulders forms a cavity. Said plane has attached thereon the several counter-tools for the punching, nibbling and cutting operations and peripherally has cut profiles for rounding off. A mechanism is carried by the horizontal shoulders to cause the rocking movement for said operating arm and relative associated toolholders.

  • Patent number: 4048891
Abstract: A cutter having a reciprocating knife for cutting sheet material has a drive mechanism for converting the rotary motion of a drive member into the reciprocating motion of the knife. The drive mechanism is comprised of a mechanical linkage which causes the forces applied to the upper end of the knife to be directed substantially along the axis of reciprocation and to, therefore, have very small lateral components minimizing wear between the knife guiding surfaces. The drive mechanism basically includes an eccentric drive pin which through a connecting link oscillates a pivotal crossarm. The oscillating movement of the crossarm is in turn imparted to the knife by means of an intermediate link connected between the crossarm and knife.
