Patent number: 4429601Abstract: For use with any type of saw and base such as a miter saw which can be set as to angle, the present apparatus comprises a pair of profile members corresponding to different sizes and shapes of conventional mold and such profile members may be supported at a proper angle on the flat bed of a table, such as a miter saw table, so that the piece of mold being cut is placed in a proper face-to-face profile engagement position with the profile member and thereby held in the proper angle and the proper position to be cut exactly in the manner as the mold will occupy when installed on a ceiling or other place. The method is the procedure for positioning the profile member in place, holding same in position, placing the mold to be cut in face-to-face relationship coextensively against the profile member, and cutting same. According to this, two pieces of mold will be cut on each end of each piece so that the matching cuts will fit exactly when installed in place.Type: GrantFiled: February 24, 1982Date of Patent: February 7, 1984Inventor: Elizabeth C. Patent number: 4428266Abstract: A frame for holding a mitering saw blade has an end member in which there is a longitudinally extending hole whose axis is spaced from and parallel to the blade. The hole serves as a bearing. The saw handle has a shaft extending from it. The shaft is journaled in the bearing hole and secured against withdrawal. Thus, the frame and handle can swivel relative to each other about a longitudinal axis.Type: GrantFiled: January 18, 1982Date of Patent: January 31, 1984Assignee: Hempe Manufacturing Co.Inventor: Burton G. Patent number: 4365531Abstract: A miter box comprising a base having a flat top surface and opposed parallel elongated side edges. A pair of spaced apart side walls extend from at least one of the side edges transversely above the flat top surface. The side walls have a flat inner surface to form right angle walls with the flat top surface. A saw blade guide mechanism is provided between the pairs of side walls. The mechanism comprises an arcuate guide means adjacent each of the side edges intermediate the pair of side walls and disposed on a circular axis having a common center point. The guide means have a diametrical pivotal base member pivotally secured on the center point below the flat top surface. Support guide means is secured to the pivotal base member and extends transversely above the flat top surface and displaceable along an arcuate path between each pair of side walls.Type: GrantFiled: November 10, 1980Date of Patent: December 28, 1982Assignee: Mita Wood Products Inc.Inventor: Alfred M. Patent number: 4356749Abstract: A simplified miter box suitable for use with a conventional carpenter's saw comprises upper and lower relatively rotatable platforms with a pair of radially spaced, upstanding saw guide posts fixed to the lower platform. Each post has a vertical, upwardly open saw guide slot extending therethrough. The slots are radially aligned with each other. The upper platform rotates about the first post and has an outer circular edge captured for sliding movement by a complementary groove in the second post. An upstanding workpiece support is fixed to the upper platform, and an angular scale alignable with a reference mark of the lower platform is inscribed on the upper platform outer edge.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 1980Date of Patent: November 2, 1982Inventor: Kieran O. Patent number: 4299152Abstract: A mitre box has a saw guide subassembly rotatably supported on a vertical post and a multiplicity of indents spaced about a portion of its periphery. A wedge member is pivoted on the base member below the saw guide subassembly and is biased to engage an edge portion in one of the indents thereof to prevent its rotation. Positioning means is provided to orient the engagement edge portion of the wedge member in axial alignment with the post to ensure accurate and stable positioning of the subassembly in a predetermined rotated position about the post. The saw guide subassembly may include a fixedly supported saw guide element and a second saw guide element which is carried on the fixed guide element and pivotable relative thereto about a pivot point adjacent the upper edge of the guide elements to equalize the pressure exerted by the ends of the saw guide subassembly on the saw received therebetween.Type: GrantFiled: May 7, 1980Date of Patent: November 10, 1981Assignee: The Stanley WorksInventor: E. Patent number: 4197776Abstract: Saw guide apparatus for longitudinal or near longitudinal saw cuts in an elongate workpiece has a base from which at least one saw guide column projects upwards. The base and said column provide respective horizontal and vertical bounding faces which are coplanar so as to define a vertical support plane against which the elongate workpiece can be placed to depend below the base. Location means are provided to set the position of the workpiece transversely to a saw guide plane defined by said guide columns so that the position of the saw cut in the workpiece can be controlled correspondingly.Type: GrantFiled: August 1, 1977Date of Patent: April 15, 1980Inventor: Gordon W. Patent number: 3948136Abstract: A mitre box embodying improved indexing means is provided for use in cutting the ends of two pieces of material at an angle to enable the two ends to be fitted together to form a joint. The mitre box includes a base which is supported on a pair of arch-like legs. The latter legs are positioned in suitably spaced relation relative to each other and are operable to provide a support means for supporting the mitre box on a suitable support surface. Mounted on the base is an indexing plate which is used for purposes of identifying the angle at which the ends of the strips, i.e., pieces will be cut. A swivel assembly is mounted on the mitre box for pivotal movement relative to the indexing plate. The swivel assembly cooperates with the indexing plate to determine the angle at which cuts will be made. A pair of upright assemblies are supported at the opposite ends of the swivel assembly whereby they extend substantially perpendicularly to the plane of the swivel assembly.Type: GrantFiled: March 19, 1975Date of Patent: April 6, 1976Assignee: The Stanley WorksInventors: Antoni P.
