  • Patent number: 4275499
Abstract: Apparatus for removing weld surplus formed after the aluminothermic welding of two rail butt ends, and incorporating a frame, a first cutting tool secured to the frame and a second cutting tool movable relative to the frame towards the first tool to remove the weld surplus. This apparatus is characterized by the fact that both tools have a cutting edge each with a profile suitable for cutting only the weld surplus on top of the rail head, and the second tool may either be moved horizontally and parallel or perpendicularly to the longitudinal axis of the rail by a hydraulic jack whose body is attached to the frame and whose ram is fixed to the second tool above its cutting edge.

  • Patent number: 4244249
Abstract: Breast cups having various types of cuts or configurations are initially molded from basically flat sheets of flexible fabric on a bust cup mold having a prescribed configuration. The resulting, three-dimensional molded fabric cup then is cut by a die having a plurality of cutting surfaces, at least a portion of the outermost cutting surfaces serving as guides for alignment with the outer perimeter of the molded cup and a portion of the cutting surfaces cutting the molded breast cup to the desired shape resulting in a breast cup having a size and configuration differing from that of a bust cup initially molded.

  • Patent number: 4198886
Abstract: An apparatus for deflashing a plastic article is disclosed. In operation, an operator places the article having flash in a nest which positions the article so that the flash is in a horizontal plane. A powered shuttle assembly picks the article up from the nest and places it upon an anvil. The anvil has striking edges which follow the line of juncture between the article and the flash. A punch apparatus is lowered onto the article and strikes the flash at the line of juncture disjoining the flash from the article. The power shuttle then removes the article without the flash to a discharge point. Optionally, at the discharge point, there may be provided an orientation assembly wich orients the deflashed article so that it may be placed upon a conveyor belt which carries the article to a collection point.

  • Patent number: 4175897
Abstract: The base of the apparatus has the form of a claw clamp with two grips for gripping a rail that are kinematically linked with a clamping cylinder. The apparatus incorporates an upper cutter and side cutters, mounted so that, with the claw clamp closed, the cutting edges of the cutters form an outline embracing the cross-sectional perimeter of the rail. Each side cutter is hinged to the respective grip and mounted thereon for a displacement parallel to the axis of symmetry of the outline formed by the cutting edges of the cutters. The upper cutter is kinematically linked with the rod of the clamping cylinder via a clearance take-up mechanism which provides for lifting the upper cutter and the side cutters hinged thereto to engage the side cutters with the rail foot underside.

  • Patent number: 4170157
Abstract: A machine for the trimming of a pipe bend held in a die in a machine frame has two hydraulic rams mounted at 45.degree., the piston rod of each ram carrying one of a pair of rotary cutting devices for trimming respective ends of the pipe bend. Under the two hydraulic rams there are arranged, each on a respective inclined guide way and likewise at an angle of 45.degree. in the machine frame, movable swarf or burr removing chamfering devices moving to bring their rotary cutter head coaxially into engagement with a respective trimmed end of the pipe bend.

  • Patent number: 4106379
Abstract: The present trimming apparatus is capable of trimming the margins of three-dimensional workpieces with the aid of strip steel knives which are driven, preferably by pneumatic piston cylinder means in any desired direction. The workpiece such as the dashboard of a car, is held on the outside thereof by a workpiece support which has such a shape and cut-outs that the strip steel knives may be moved through the workpiece support. A counter-holder presses the workpiece against the outer support. In this combination of elements the workpiece may be trimmed from any direction from its outer side inwardly. The trimming tools may be operable in sequence and may also be supported on a carriage which shuttles back and forth between a trimming station and a loading and unloading station. Power savings may be in the order of 90% as compared to the power requirements of conventional stamping tools.

  • Patent number: 4100828
Abstract: A multicell battery case, adaptable for use with a variety of cell-pack sizes, is molded with universal-sized cell compartments and opposing spacer-ribs projecting a predetermined distance into the cell compartments from the compartments' walls so as to provide an inter-rib gap across the compartment substantially equal to the narrowest cell pack useful with that case. The case is thereafter adapted for use with thicker cell packs by trimming back the opposing ribs to increase the gap therebetween to approximately the thickness of the cell pack actually destined for use with that case. Preferably, rib-shaving blades are inserted into the case and guided in spaced relation from the rib-bearing walls to remove distal portions of the ribs. Means are provided to detach the shavings from the container at their roots.

  • Patent number: 4043497
Abstract: In a friction welding machine a shear tool is provided for shearing flash off the welded workpieces at the weld zone which tool is interposable between one workpiece holder and the flash only after the workpiece holder and the flash have been relatively moved apart. The workpiece holder and the weld zone are then relatively moved towards one another to force the shear tool and the weld zone to traverse relative to one another so that the flash is completely sheared off the weld zone.

  • Patent number: 4030650
Abstract: Apparatus for removing tail flash from molded plastic articles, such as containers or bottles, in which a pair of reciprocatory jaw assemblies are formed with meshing teeth which engage the flash from opposite sides and subsequently tear the flash from the article. The jaw assemblies are formed with meshing tooth-like projections which engage flash from opposite sides at spaced locations along the line of juncture between the web of flash and the surface of the article. Inclined cam surfaces on one jaw assembly urge a flash web engaged between the teeth of the closing jaws outwardly away from the article to tear the flash clear of the article.
