Hollow Stem Forms Axially Extending Fluid Passage Patents (Class 92/110)
  • Patent number: 4492359
Abstract: A ram-type valve assembly for well blowout prevention applications and the like. Opposing ram assemblies disposed in ram guideways transverse to the valve bore are each provided with two pistons extending outward of the valve housing having internal passages communicating with respective passages internal of the housing terminating in respective closing and opening ports. A cylinder assembly with interconnected cylindrical chambers is slidably disposed about respective pistons. Pressurizing the closing or opening ports transmits pressure through the pistons to the chambers, effecting cylinder assembly movement along the pistons inward toward and outward from the bore, respectively. Each cylinder assembly is interconnected to its respective ram, transmitting cylinder movement to the ram. The hydraulic circuits are isolated from the bore preventing hydraulic circuit contamination and accidental ram opening from bore pressure leaks into the hydraulics.

  • Patent number: 4487111
Abstract: Apparatus for generating linear motion comprises a body on one end of which is mounted a cylinder. A piston in the cylinder is joined to an actuating beam extending into the body. The actuating beam has moving surfaces that cooperate with fixed surfaces in the body to define a linear bearing. Fluid under pressure is introduced through a duct in the body to a port in the fixed surface of the linear bearing. It enters the space in the cylinder above the piston via a port in a moving surface of the actuating beam which leads to a duct in the actuating beam that opens through the crown of the piston. A resilient sealing member between the fixed and moving surface of the linear bearing maintains fluid-tight communication between the fixed and movable part over their range of relative movement. The actuating beam may carry a rack that drives a pinion through ninety degrees as the piston travels, and two opposed cylinders may be provided to give a reciprocatory movement, or a spring return may be provided.

  • Patent number: 4487110
Abstract: A clamping element comprises a single-acting cylinder and a piston with strong spring return which can be cancelled out by introduction of a pressure medium into the pressure chamber of the cylinder. The spring return is brought about, at least mainly, by means of a sleeve (6a, 6b) of rubber or rubber-like material which occupies a gap (5, 5b) between the piston (3, 3a, 3b) and the cylinder wall (7, 7a, 7b) or a lining (40) arranged in the cylinder. The rubber sleeve is firmly vulcanized, firmly glued or surface-fixed in some other manner against the cylindrical exterior of the piston and against the wall of the cylinder or the said lining along an axial length which considerably exceeds the thickness of the gap.

Abstract: The vacuum chamber includes an airtight generally cylindrical wall and a pair of end members. Vacuum pumps in the chamber evacuate the chamber. The chamber is rotated along the longitudinal axis whereby the centrifugal force of the rotating cylindrical wall acts against the force resulting from the pressure differential between the inside of the evaluated chamber and ambient pressure on the outside of the cylindrical wall to prevent the cylindrical wall from collapsing. An inner member is mounted in the chamber, but the chamber rotates with respect to the inner member. In a low temperature embodiment for freeze drying refrigerated air cools the outside of the chamber to reduce the temperature within the chamber. • Patent number: 4258609
Abstract: Liquid fluid pressure applied to a piston causes advancement thereof at a rapid rate until an external resisting load applied to the piston rod exceeds a predetermined value producing a corresponding increase in the pressure within the opposing pressure chambers to which the piston is exposed. Bi-directional flow, conducted between the opposing chambers during rapid piston movement, is automatically blocked by a differential circuit pressure operated piston valve to cause a rapid increase in the differential pressures acting on the piston, and an increase in the value of the external piston rod load with a corresponding decrease in its rate of movement in the same direction. A modified embodiment permits the piston rod to act under pressure and with a force in both the extending and retracting phases of the stroke with the same rapid extending rate until the external resisting force is encountered.

Abstract: A power steering gear mechanism is disclosed having conventional elements such as a double acting cylinder in a housing, a piston with a gear rack geared to a gear sector, and threaded bore in the piston having a worm shaft, wherein a steering shaft operates a rotary valve spool with which it is integral, in rotation relative a fixed valve sleeve carried by the worm shaft and wherein a torque rod connects the worm shaft to the steering spindle and passes through the worm shaft. The novelty of the invention resides in hydraulic circuitry and in the placement of a pin carried by the worm shaft and passing through a bore in the body of the valve spool just beyond one end of the channelled flow control area, the steering shaft extending from the other end of the valve spool. The pin effects rotation of the worm shaft by engaging the side of the bore through the valve spool body during twisting of the torque rod to effect piston movement.
