Externally Mounted Locking Device Patents (Class 70/211)
  • Patent number: 4813722
Abstract: An improved locking device for a latching and locking mechanism wherein upon a motor vehicle rear seatback being unlocked it adapted to be unlatched for swinging to a fold-down position by pivoting a handle portion of an operating lever providing pass through access between the vehicle passenger compartment and rear storage trunk. The locking device provides a key locking cylinder which in its locked mode has a lock bar biased in one direction such that its one end contacts a cam segment on the cylinder. The lock bar is formed with a pair of notches spaced on centers equal to the spacing between support webs of a pivoting operating lever. The notches are positioned to block the pivoting of the lever in the cylinder locked mode by being misaligned with the support webs.

  • Patent number: 4791795
Abstract: A vehicle anti-theft device. The device is amenable for use with a vehicle having a gear lever. The device includes a removable housing which fits over and encloses the gear lever. The housing is locked in place to prevent movement of the gear lever by a bolt passing through the housing in interengagement with the gear lever and penetrating a barrel lock housing fixedly attached to the gear lever housing. The bolt has a head at one end which prevents rotation thereof, and a hole at the other end in mutual register with the bolt-engaging portion of the barrel lock. The locking of the housing in place over the gear lever prevents movement thereof so that the vehicle cannot be driven without unlocking the housing.

  • Patent number: 4747279
Abstract: An automobile security device includes a lock bar extending through a lock housing. A clamping device is fixed on one end of the lock bar, and a hook is supported by the lock housing. The lock housing and hook are axially displaceable along the lock bar, such that the clamp can be attached to a floor mounted gear select lever or gearshift lever, and the lock housing and hook thereafter moved axially along the lock bar, away from the clamp, until the hook engages the floor mounted brake handle. The lock housing is locked on the lock bar, after the unit is mounted, so as to prevent the movement of the gear select lever out of the park position, and prevent movement of the brake from the engaged to the release position. The unit may also be mounted on a steering wheel, and includes a projecting rod to interfere with the rotation of the steering wheel.

  • Patent number: 4722205
Abstract: A locking device for preventing rotation of a vehicle steering wheel, comprises a base having two hooks that engage over spokes of a steering wheel to be locked. A pair of spring clips releasably secure the base to the steering column which supports the steering wheel to be locked. An extensible and retractable pin carried by the base has a lock for preventing unauthorized retraction of the pin. A clamp encircles the steering column, the clamp having an ear having a hole therethrough for receiving the pin when the pin is extended. The clamp has an adjusting screw manipulable to release the clamp; and the screw has a screw head so positioned relative to the ear of the clamp that when the extensible and retractable pin is extended through the ear, the screw head is masked by the pin to prevent release of the clamp.

  • Patent number: 4715200
Abstract: A locking device to be usable in conjunction with a deadlock type of locking apparatus mounted in conjunction with a door. The locking device of this invention is to be attached in a fixed manner to the handle of the deadlock locking apparatus with there being an elongated bar section that is to abut against the conventional doorknob of the door. Any unauthorized turning of the deadlock handle will be prevented since a deadlock handle is constrained due to the elongated bar portion abutting against the doorknob. The locking device of this invention includes a bracket section which is to be movable to accommodate to different positions of deadlock handles.

  • Patent number: 4631937
Abstract: A lock assembly for cabinet doors comprising a mounting plate attachable to the door panel and provided with a depression in its front face to receive a handle. The handle is connected to an operating shaft for a lock adjusting member in a spring loaded manner to cause the handle to be ejected from the depression pivoting about an axis perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the adjusting member. The hand lever is retained in and released from the depression by means of the lock assembly. The lock is installed in the mounting plate separate from the depression with the handle therein, and penetrates the door panel through an opening. The lock controls a slide adjustably disposed in the mounting plate by means of a detent element engaged in the depression, the detent element retaining the handle in the depression when the lock is in the locking position and releasing the handle which is ejected from the depression when the lock is in the unlocked position.

  • Patent number: 4363228
Abstract: A locking mechanism for ranges utilizes a bar extending transverse to the longitudinal axis of the knob operated shafts controlling the operation of the individual valves of a gas range or the individual switches of an electric range. A plurality of arms are pivotably secured to the bar, each having fingers directed and biased towards the longitudinal axis of each shaft. Each shaft is rotatable and carries an opening at a discrete location in the surface thereof. Rotating the shaft to a position corresponding to deenergizing the associated heating element of the range into an off position permits the free end of the finger to enter the opening, preventing further rotation of the shaft when the bar is slidably positioned into a locked position by the operation of a key operated lock.
