Abstract: A locking system is disclosed for use with a cargo container. The locking system comprises a housing which is adapted to be mounted to a door of the cargo storing container. Three rods extend from the housing with the rods having a locked position extending beyond the periphery of the door and an unlocked position not extending beyond the periphery of the door. A handle extends from the housing. The handle rotatably engages a cam plate contained within the housing. The cam plate is operatively engaged with the three rods whereby rotation of the handle rotates the cam plate which moves the rods from one position to the other. A locking tab extends forwardly from the cam plate into a recess in the housing. The locking tab is engaged by a circular lock while the recess prevents movement of the engaged circular lock.

  • Patent number: 6357266
Abstract: A latch cover is secured over a latch to be protected by the lock which locks the latch, and the latch cover restricts access to the latch to reduce the chance of tampering with the latch. The latch cover includes a cover plate sized to cover a substantial portion of the latch and lock when held in a position in front of the latch. Holding plates extend from the cover plate over the sides of the latch where a lock member of a lock locking the latch extend. Such lock member extends from the opposite sides of the latch and through holes in the holding plates to secure the cover in place. Side plates preferably extend between the holding plates to form a box structure to more fully cover the latch. Notches in the side plates receive items extending into or from the latch and help position the cover. The cover allows access to the lock so the lock and latch can be opened when desired and the cover removed.

  • Patent number: 6318770
Abstract: A latching assembly that requires three distinct operations must be performed with two hands to allow the handle of the latch assembly to be rotated to unlock a cabinet door or the like. The assembly provides substantial flexibilities in installation. A base portion is secured to a door and receives a handle portion with a shaft attached, the shaft extending through the sleeve. Cooperative rotation restriction portions on the handle and on the base portion restrict the motion of the handle to a limited rotation range. Said limited rotation range may be altered by moving a key guide in one of the cooperative rotation restriction portions. A first release mechanism comprising a trigger portion which extends from the handle and a detent which engages a detent opening in the base portion requires depression of the trigger portion before rotation of the handle to an unlatched position. • Patent number: 6119494
Abstract: A locking apparatus which is suitable for use with a manually operated control. The control is of a type which has a body and a handle. The handle is rotatable relative to the body and which is restricted to rotate between a first position defined by a first pair of abutment surfaces touching one another. In such a condition, a second pair of abutment surfaces are spaced apart to define a first gap between them. Rotation to a second limiting position is defined by the second pair of abutment surfaces touching one another and the first pair of abutment surfaces being spaced apart to define a second gap. The locking apparatus includes a first member which is attachable to the handle and a second member which is attached to the first member. The second member fits for use into either one of the first or second gap and provides further abutment surfaces each disposed to abut a respective adjacent abutment surface on the body of the control thereby to restrict rotation of the handle relative to the body.

Abstract: A plate pivotally mounted to a padlock hasp adjacent a reciprocally movable operator handle is pivotable from a stored position to one covering the opening of the hasp, the plate having a hole aligned with the opening and smaller than the opening to receive the shackle of a single, scissors-type safety lockout and maintain the shackle in position to block movement of the operator handle to an operated position. The hole is preferably rectangular to conform to the flat, thin shape of the safety lockout shackle to maintain the shackle properly oriented. An additional round hole for a smaller diameter padlock shackle may be provided in said plate.

Abstract: A door curtain assembly (10) for temporarily closing the door opening of a loading dock doorway for a warehouse, or similar industrial building, including a framework (20) mounted within the door jamb of the doorway. A door curtain (42) is movably mounted to the framework (20) and is formed from a durable, porous material that enables light and air to readily pass therethrough, but which retards the passage of insects, etc. through the open door of a warehouse. The door curtain (42) is slidably mounted on a curtain rod (66) and is movable across the width of the door opening to open and close the door opening. A locking handle (96) is provided along one side edge (49) of the door curtain (42) for locking the door curtain (42) in its closed position for enclosing the door opening.

  • Patent number: 5415017
Abstract: A valve lock has a body and a moveable jaw for releasably gripping a lever handle of the valve against the body. The jaw has a threaded shaft that extends through a hole in the body, and a locking cleat is slidable on the threaded shaft. An arm is attached to the shaft between the body and the locking cleat, and is rotatable about the shaft to abut either the valve or a pipe connected to the valve. A hand wheel is threaded onto the shaft and can be tightened against the locking cleat which then forces the arm against the body to inhibit rotation of the arm about the shaft. The locking cleat has an aperture for receiving the shackle of a padlock, and the hand wheel has a plurality of notches in an exterior surface with one of the notches receiving the shackle to restrict movement of the wheel along the shaft.

  • Patent number: 5411048
Abstract: A valve handle latching assembly having a selectable latching slider which engages a detent on a fluid control device such as a ball valve. During assembly, a particular slider is selected for inclusion in the final assembly resulting in a valve tailored for its intended purpose. Depending upon which latching slider is selected, the valve handle latching assembly latches in the open and/or closed position(s) thereby preventing inadvertent rotation. The latching handle assembly may be manually disengaged to permit rotation of the handle in the opposite rotational direction.

Abstract: A lock comprised of a cylindrical body having a first passage extending axially through the body which passage is configured to enable a locking bar to be passed through the body, the bar having at least one orifice intermediate its extremities, the lock body having a second partial passageway extending from the side wall of the body at least into the first passageway and normal to the latter so that the orifice in the bar can be disposed in register with the second passageway. A cylindrical lock configured to fit slidably in the second passageway so that at least a portion of the lock may be thrust in the second passageway and through the bar orifice when the latter is disposed in register with the second passageway, when the lock may be secured by a key to be withdrawn from the outer end of the lock. This lock and bar may employed with external plates to secure adjacent members from movement relative to each other.

  • Patent number: 5284036
Abstract: A tamper-resistant security lock assembly for use on lockrods of cargo container doors to prevent unauthorized opening of the doors. The lock assembly includes a pair of adjustably telescopically interengaged hasps with hook configurations on opposite ends adapted to connect with the lockrods in spanning relationship to a door opening and prevent opening of the door. A plurality of openings are formed through the hasps in positions to be in registry with one another when the hasps are appropriately adjusted relative to one another, for receiving a staple and padlock to lock the hasps against relative movement. According to one feature of the invention, the openings in one hasp are spaced differently than the openings in the other hasp, whereby smaller increments of adjustment can be obtained than if the openings were all spaced the same.
