Abstract: A catalyst mixing tank having an axially aligned cylindrical outlet conduit at the vessel bottom has an agitator on a shaft which terminates in a spiral configuration extending from the vessel and terminating within the outlet conduit thereby providing agitation within the outlet conduit. This catalyst mixing tank combined with a downstream ball-check feed valve with the feed valve having a diametrical clearance between ball and cylinder in a range of about 0.040 inch to the maximum clearance that precludes leaking between ball and cylinder and with control of the pressure differential across the ball-check feed valve provides a catalyst feed system particularly suitable for use with viscous material or material likely to bridge an opening.

Abstract: There are disclosed a method and apparatus for effecting a chemical reaction. There is provided an aspirator-mixer or zone to which the reaction mass is pumped to activate the same and into which another reactant is furnished and from which admixed reaction mass and reactant are discharged into a reaction zone in which the concentration or proportion of a vaporous or gaseous reactant is maintained at a level as desired by sucking therefrom into the suction side of the aspirator-mixer or zone any excess of such reactant. In one embodiment, a mercaptan is oxidized to corresponding disulfides with oxygen and the oxygen level in the reaction zone is maintained as desired by sucking off into the suction side of the aspirator-mixer any oxygen in the reaction zone in excess of that desired therein.
Abstract: Apparatus is provided for overbasing a petroleum sulfonate in a multi-vessel reaction system in which a first reactor is a plug flow reactor in which a feedstock is fed in the top of the first reactor with carbon dioxide fed near the bottom of the first reactor and with the product of the first reactor passed to a second reactor that is a continuous stirred tank reactor for additional reaction with carbon dioxide. Optionally, the continuous stirred tank reactor is the first in a series of continuous stirred tank reactors with passing a product effluent seriatim through the series of reactors and recovery of product from the last reactor in the series.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the continuous overbasing of petroleum sulfonate providing in a process in which CO.sub.2 is contacted with a reaction mixture of neutral petroleum sulfonate, lube oil stock, lime, methanol, and naphtha in a series of reaction vessels in which additional CO.sub.2 is contacted seriatim in each succeeding reaction vessel with the effluent from the preceding reaction vessel, a method and apparatus for the removal of at least a portion of the effluent from each reaction vessel with the reduction of water content in this portion and subsequent supplementing of methanol content in this portion to provide a reaction efficient amount of water and methanol in each succeeding reaction.
Abstract: A composition of enhanced radio frequency sensitivity and a method for providing enhanced radio frequency sensitivity to a composition in which a substance suitable for enhancement of radio frequency sensitivity is admixed with a radio frequency sensitizing amount of an inorganic radio frequency sensitizer treated essentially to remove absorbed water and/or other volatiles with the radio frequency sensitizer chosen from among zinc oxide (American Process), bentonite clay, and crystalline or amorphous alkali or alkaline earth metal aluminsilicate. A process for molding using these compositions and the molded product. The composition, method for enhancing radio frequency sensitivity, process for molding and molded product with a polymeric substance, particularly ultra high molecular weight polyethylene, as the substance suitable for enhancement of radio frequency sensitivity.
Abstract: Process of preventing and/or reducing the rate of catalyst deactivation during hydrogenation of olefinic materials, especially olefinic polymers such as diene-containing polymers, that contain contaminants and/or catalyst poisons which comprises carrying out the hydrogenation in the presence of a small but finite amount of a lower alkanol, such as methanol, which amount is sufficient to substantially reduce catalyst poisoning due to contaminants present in the hydrogenation feed.

Abstract: A process for recovering a metal sulfide mineral from ore by froth flotation using 1-alkyl substituted-2-mercaptoethanol as the flotation agent.
Abstract: Pillared, interlayered clay products suitable as gas separation agents or as substrates for catalyst compositions are prepared by methods that provide an increase in surface area and pore volume as compared to similar products made by prior art methods.
Abstract: Polymerization in-situ to effect permeability contrast correction in oil-bearing subterranean formations comprising the injection of at least one water-soluble monomer comprising N-3-oxohydrocarbon-substituted acrylamides, such as diacetone acrylamide, and optionally at least one water-soluble comonomer, such as alpha,beta-unsaturated amides, alpha,beta-unsaturated nitriles, vinyl-containing sulfonates and N-vinyl amides and polymerization initiator to cause polymerization and formation of water-insoluble polymers in high permeability zones.
Abstract: Hydrocarbyl-substituted sulfinyl and sulfonyl carboxylic acids are effective corrosion inhibitors for surfaces of various metals. In one embodiment, mineral acid compositions such as aqueous hydrochloric acid metal cleaning solutions exhibit diminished corrosiveness when corrosion inhibiting additives of the invention are present in the compositions.

Methods for manipulating the operation of the sample homogenizer to provide homogenized samples and homogenized diluted samples.
Abstract: The hydrogenation of olefin polymers and especially diene polymers can be carried out effectively in a fixed bed mode of operation, preferably with up-flow of polymer solution, using a heterogeneous catalyst containing an active hydrogenation metal in which the catalyst support has defined surface area and pore volume characteristics and the hydrogenation metal or metal compound is incorporated into the support by impregnation with a non-aqueous solution of the metal or metal compound.
