  • Patent number: 6782280
Abstract: Rapid text entry using a wireless telephone is facilitated by correlating at least some of the letters represented by a number key to a two-key combination, namely, the number key and an indicator key such as the star key (which, when depressed along with a number key, can indicate the second letter on the number key) and the pound key (which, when depressed with a number key, can indicate the third letter on the key). Thus, at most two key strokes are required to positively indicate any letter on a numbers-only keypad.

  • Patent number: 6775563
Abstract: A method and system for disabling a mobile unit to handle a call processing function, after being away from its charging unit longer than a predetermined time period, allows a service provider to limit the mobility of the mobile unit with respect to its companion charging unit. Consequently, the service provider may limit the mobility of the mobile unit in a limited area, such as in a wireless local loop.

  • Patent number: 6738617
Abstract: A method and apparatus for reducing latency in a group communication network provides for a significant reduction in the actual total dormancy wakeup time and the PTT latency by exchanging group call signaling even when mobiles are dormant and no traffic channel is active. The method and apparatus provides for exchanging the group call signaling through the use of the short data burst (SDB) message signaling. The method and apparatus provides for reestablishing dedicated traffic channels for the talker mobile and the dormant listener mobiles advantageously in parallel.

  • Patent number: 6731647
Abstract: A method and apparatus for increasing the probability of successful data frame transmission from a transmitter to a receiver. When a data frame is generated by a processor, it is stored in a transmit queue and a copy of the data frame is stored in a secondary queue. An elapsed time device tracks the elapsed time that the data frame copy has been stored in the secondary queue. When no data frames are generated by the processor, data frame copies from the secondary queue are placed into the transmit queue, thereby increasing the redundancy of transmitted data frames and thus the probability of successful transmission to the receiver.

  • Patent number: 6725053
Abstract: A method and apparatus for reducing dormant-wakeup latency in a group communication network provides for a significant reduction in the actual total dormant-wakeup time and the PTT latency perceived by the talker through caching the network-initiated wakeup triggers destined for target listeners, and delivering a wakeup trigger to a target mobile station as soon as the target mobile station has re-established its traffic channel.

  • Patent number: 6700640
Abstract: In a digital cinema system comprising a decoder and an auditorium manager, where the auditorium manager configured to sequence the presentation of scheduled programs, a method of cueing a theatre automation system is claimed. A cue command is received from the decoder. The cue command is configured to a format acceptable by the theatre automation system. The cue command is then relayed to the theatre automation system.

  • Patent number: 6650784
Abstract: An apparatus and method of intraframe encoding of digital frequency-domain data. The data comprises a plurality of slices each having a plurality of blocks. Each block has a DC component and a plurality of AC components. A first DC component value of each slice is encoded. Each subsequent DC component value of each slice is represented as the difference between it and the DC component value preceeding it. For lossless encoding, the initial DC component value of each slice and the differences are encoding using Golomb-Rice.

  • Patent number: 6609148
Abstract: A computer system includes an enterprise gateway server and a remote gateway server connected via a data network, such as the Internet, that is relatively inefficient compared to typical private networks. The remote gateway server interfaces the enterprise gateway server to corporate messaging and collaboration data stored locally relative to the remote gateway server. The enterprise gateway server converts multiple data requests for the messaging and collaboration data into a single higher-level data request that is transmitted across the data network. The remote gateway server receives the request and converts the single high level request back into the original multiple request format for presentation to the messaging and collaboration database.

  • Patent number: 6563800
Abstract: A data center for providing access to subscriber information from a remote enterprise network in real-time is presented. The data center includes a data network interface system for interfacing with a data network and a login system, which includes a login server and a data center messaging server. The login server receives a request inputted by a subscriber on a remote access device across the data network to access the subscriber information and authenticates the subscriber and the remote device, while the data center messaging server hosting the subscriber information. Upon authenticating the subscriber and the remote device, the login server, accesses the subscriber information on the data center messaging server and provides the subscriber information to the remote access device in response to the received request.

  • Patent number: 6330462
Abstract: The present invention employs a method and apparatus for providing improved power control when changing the rate at which data is sent in a communications system. When data arrives at the transmitter for transmission at a high rate, power control feedback is changed from a slow mode (with a low bandwidth feedback channel) to a fast mode (with a high bandwidth feedback channel). This control changes even before the data is transmitted at the high rate. Once the power level is accurately estimated for data transmission at the high rate, then data transmission begins at the high rate.

  • Patent number: 6314107
Abstract: A method is taught for transmitting message signals in a communication system having a new call entering tile communication system and Walsh codes that can be active and inactive. The method includes dividing the Walsh codes into bins and determining the number of active Walsh codes in the bins. Selecting a Walsh code in accordance with the Walsh code number determination and assigning the selected Walsh code to the new call are set forth. The Walsh codes have indices and the Walsh codes are divided into bins according to the indices. The Walsh codes are divided into cycles according to the indices and if the number of bins is n the Walsh codes are divided into bins in accordance with the value of their indices modulo n. The minimum number of active Walsh codes in the bins is determined and the Walsh code is selected in accordance with the minimum number of active codes. A plurality of the bins can contain the minimum number of active Walsh codes.
