Abstract: An incremental motion mechanism which utilizes first and second one-way clutches attached to the output shaft of the mechanism. The first one-way clutch is used to prevent back up of the output member, while the second one-way clutch is used to incrementally rotate the output shaft. First and second solenoids and associated linkage under the control of a controller are used for adjusting the extent of rotation of the output shaft.
Abstract: A snap-fit fastening or mounting arrangement for a motor having a mounting flange. The fastening or mounting arrangement includes a side frame member having a pair of spring-like snap elements that are integral with the side frame member for securing the motor. The frame member also includes a pair of pilot studs integral therewith and positioned to be received by apertures in the mounting flange to resist torque of the motor. The side frame member includes a plurality of hubs as an integral portion thereof and gears are journaled on the hubs in an arrangement driven by the motor. A fastening element is provided with spring fingers which are inserted into the aperture of each hub and retained thereby to secure the respective gear on the hub.
Abstract: A document transport and printing apparatus which utilizes an associated clutch for use in printing and endorsing documents like checks at a printing station in the apparatus. The apparatus utilizes a single input shaft as an input member for the clutch and as an input member for a soft drive roller located at the printing station. The clutch utilizes a moveable sector portion which is moved between inactive and active positions to rotate an associated planetary member to provide a reduction in the rotary movement of the output member of the clutch when the sector portion is moved to the active position.
Abstract: A dot matrix print head has a heat sink substantially surrounding the head for dissipating heat therefrom. A print head carriage includes a pivot or bearing assembly on one side of the print head and includes a bail type clamp pivoted on the carriage on the other side of the print head. The arrangement allows the heat sink to swing from a covered print head operating position to an uncovered position for servicing or for removing the print head.
Abstract: A bar code reader is provided with the capability of reading bar code symbols containing information for causing changes in the functions performed by said reader, as well as reading merchandise identification symbols commonly associated with items such as merchandise being checked out at a point of sale terminal. Tests are provided to determine that the bar code symbols for function changes are proper symbols, and are not merchandise identification symbols, such as UPC symbols.
Abstract: An electronic copy board system including an electronic copy board. The electronic copy board includes an opaque planar member which provides a support for a transparent sheet upon which image data is written. A guide member houses an elongated light to direct light through a slot in the guide member towards an array of light detectors positioned opposite the elongated light. The transparent sheet is moved between the light guide and the light detectors when the image data on the transparent sheet is to be read. In one embodiment, the transparent sheet is in the form of an endless belt, and in another embodiment, the transparent sheet is in the form of a long strip which is pulled off a supply roll and wound up on a take-up roll during the reading process. The electronic copy board is coupled to a personal computer to facilitate displaying, printing, storing, transmitting, or further processing of the visual data read from the copy board.
Abstract: A data modem communication system includes a data modem transmitter adapted to transmit data on a main channel at a relatively high bit rate and to transmit data at a relatively low bit rate on a secondary channel. At the receiver, a single analog-to-digital converter (54) supplies digital signals via a notch filter (58) to the main channel receiver (60) and to the secondary channel receiver (62) wherein a single IIR low-pass digital filter (110) is utilized for processing at three different sample rates to eliminate the main channel signal with frequency conversion taking place between processing at the first and second sample rates. The invention enables the provision of a reliable secondary channel while using a minimum amount of circuitry for complex-valued digital signal processing.
Abstract: An integrated slip guide member and slip table assembly for use with business machines. The slip table has a first and second groups of parallel grooves thereon which are spaced apart in parallel relationship. The slip guide member has first and second members which receive the a portion of the slip table to enable the guide member to be moveable on the slip table to accommodate different widths of documents. The slip guide member also has detent members thereon to mesh with the first and second groups of parallel grooves to adjustably secure the slip guide member on the slip table.
Abstract: A two-ply laminated record medium has a thermally reactive coating applied to the base sheet and the top sheet is applied to the base sheet by using a wet lamination process. The coating provides sufficient adhesion to prevent separation of the top sheet and the base sheet during printing, while allowing for ease of separation of the two sheets after printing.

Abstract: An electronic business terminal has the capability of electronically displaying a plurality of individual journal entry items on a CRT at the command of the terminal operator, who can cause the display of items to be scrolled backward or forward as desired, to locate a particular journal item. The information to be displayed is stored in a journal window stack. Controls are provided for determining the address of the initial entry of the stack, the size of the stack and the location at which the next item is to be added to the stack. Controls are also provided for display of the entries contained in the stack. A counter is provided to count the number of entries in the stack.
Abstract: A cabinet which houses electronic modules and provides a low-cost assembly of the modules in the cabinet. The cabinet includes a base portion, cover portion, and a locking portion which are used to prevent unauthorized persons from gaining access to critical modules within the cabinet. A vent system provides cooling while preventing objects one millimeter in diameter, or larger, from being inserted into the cabinet, as a safety measure.

Abstract: A ribbon is driven past the printing station of a printer only when the print head is moved in the right-to-left direction across the printer. An endless timing belt causes rotation of a gear pulley that is in mesh with an idler gear. The idler gear is supported on a pair of projecting fingers of a plate that is swingable on the center of the gear pulley. The idler gear is responsive to the direction of rotation of the gear pulley through a drag effect of the projecting fingers with the bottom surface of the idler gear.
