  • Patent number: 4894783
Abstract: A multiple sheet detection apparatus includes first and second cooperating rollers (12, 14), the second roller (14) being movable away from the first roller (12) in response to the passage of a single or multiple sheet between the rollers (12, 14). Voltage generating means (42) produce an output voltage which varies linearly with movement of the axis of the second roller relative to the axis of the first roller (12). Data processing means sample this voltage a predetermined number of times over one complete revolution of the first roller (12), first with no sheet present and then with a single or multiple sheet passing between the rollers (12, 14), to produce first and second values which are respectively representative of the sums of the voltages sampled during each such revolution. The first value is subtracted from the second value to produce a third value on the basis of which the number of sheets corresponding to the second value is determined.

  • Patent number: 4894614
Abstract: A center-to-center distance measuring device for measuring the exact spacing between print solenoids. The devie uses a test block having a top surface and a bottom surface which are parallel. The top surface has first and second bevel surfaces which are parallel to each other, extend from the top surface towards the bottom surface and are spaced apart at a predetermined distance. The print solenoids are positioned perpendicularly to the top surface of the test block such that the print wires of the print solenoids impact against the test block when energized. The displacement of the print wires from the solenoids is used to determine the center-to-center spacing as the print wires impact against the bevel surfaces as the test block is moved.

  • Patent number: 4890198
Abstract: A method and retainer for retaining a circuit board in a mounted position within a housing of an electronic device. A working distance is determined, which is defined as the distance between the circuit board and the housing, and the length of the retainer is adjusted to such working distance, so that when a first end portion of the retainer is secured to a circuit board and the circuit board is mounted in the housing, the second end portion of the retainer is positioned to engage the housing and thereby retain the circuit board in a mounted position during shipment of the electronic device.

  • Patent number: 4888481
Abstract: An aligning and protective apparatus for a stepping motor which includes a sensor housing having first and second sensor pairs located therein. An aligning cover has a receiving area therein to receive the sensor housing. The first and second sensor pairs are placed apart a predetermined distance in the housing which is positioned on the motor to coact with a timing disk used in controlling the operation of the stepping motor. The cover with the sensor pairs therein is rotated on the motor until the sensor pairs are properly located on the motor to effect the desired lead angle for the motor. The cover is also shaped to protect the sensor pairs and the timing disk from dust.

  • Patent number: 4888802
Abstract: A system and method for storing encrypter keys in a secure manner to prevent a "debugger" or an unauthorized user of a user application from compromising the keys. A static RAM with a battery support is used to store the keys after they are installed therein by a processor included in the system. As used, the RAM because a write only RAM as far as the processor is concerned. Anytime a clear text key appears on a bus connecting the RAM with an enciphering chip used in the system, an interface between the bus and the processor is used to uncouple the bus from the processor. The system can also be used for "key encrypting key schemes".

  • Patent number: 4884234
Abstract: A semiconductor memory controller chip associated with a remote DMA device, a multispeed microprocessor and a DRAM memory requiring refreshing periodically includes refresh circuits for generating refresh signals for controlling refreshing of the memory during transparent and contention refresh operations. When a conflict occurs between the DMA device requesting access to the memory and the occurrence of a transparent refresh operation, control signals are generated to allow the memory to be refreshed prior to the time the DMA device is given access to the memory, thereby eliminating the need for a contention refresh operation. Control signals are also generated in accordance with the speed of the microprocessor for synchronizing the operation of the microprocessor with the operation of the DMA device.

  • Patent number: 4880159
Abstract: A glue head/line flushing system uses compressed air to circulate a cleaning agent or solvent from a reservoir and through filtering elements to a solvent manifold. The glue head/line is connected to the solvent manifold and the glue and/or glue particles are flushed from the glue head/line. The glue head/line is then connected to an air manifold to remove any remaining particles of glue and also any solvent from the glue head/line.

  • Patent number: 4875670
Abstract: An idler wheel assembly having an idler wheel arm and an idler wheel rotatably mounted on one end of the arm to co-act with a feed wheel located on one side of a document track when the arm is moved from an inactive to an active position relative to the feed wheel. The arm has a pivot area which is mounted to move along the line which is perpendicular to the document track; this enables the assembly to accommodate documents of varying thicknesses. One embodiment uses a loosely mounted pivot point to effect the movement of the pivot area, and a second embodiment uses an elongated slot in the frame of the assembly to effect the movement of the pivot area along the line mentioned.

  • Patent number: 4873631
Abstract: A point-of-sale system includes a plurality of terminals in which one of the terminals is selected to be a primary terminal and the remaining terminals are selected to be secondary terminals. Program means in the primary terminal will store the data messages received from the secondary terminals and transmit the received data messages to memory means in each of the secondary terminals. Each secondary terminal will determine if it has received all the data messages. If there is found to be a discrepancy in the number of data message received, the secondary terminal will notify the primary terminal of such a discrepancy and the primary terminal will supply the missing data messages.
