  • Patent number: 5399258
Abstract: Low sulfur gasoline of relatively high octane number is produced from a catalytically cracked, sulfur-containing naphtha by hydrodesulfurization followed by treatment over an acidic catalyst under endothermic conditions in a second reaction zone. Heat is added to the endothermic reaction zone to initiate and maintain octane restoring reactions. The preferred acidic catalyst is an intermediate pore size zeolite such as ZSM-5. The treatment over the acidic catalyst in the second step restores the octane loss which takes place as a result of the hydrogenative treatment and results in a low sulfur gasoline product with an octane number comparable to that of the feed naphtha. The addition of heat at the second zone prolongs hydrodesulfurization catalyst life by allowing a lower hydrodesulfurization reactor temperature. The addition of heat also maximizes octane increase in the second zone.

  • Patent number: 5397457
Abstract: A hydrocarbon fraction, preferably in the kerosene boiling range containing a substantial proportion of C.sub.9 + hydrocarbons is contacted with an n-paraffin fraction, such as n-pentane, over a catalyst of acidic functionality, such as Pd/zeolite beta, under conditions of hydrocracking sufficient to convert the feed to lower boiling range materials of high octane number. The n-paraffin cofeed promotes isomerization and suppresses production of n-paraffins.

  • Patent number: 5397066
Abstract: Separation of a mixture of plastic materials by separating the plastic mixture according to particle size, and introducing plastic of similar size particles into a vertical fluidized bed column having an upwardly flowing gaseous stream therein. The flow rate of the gaseous stream is controlled to provide a relatively low density fraction of the plastic mixture exiting at the upper end of the column, and a relatively high density fraction of the plastic mixture exiting at the lower end of the column. In one embodiment, electrostatic charges are induced on the particles of the plastic mixture prior to introducing the plastic of similar size particles into the column, and the column is charged to attract thereto the plastic particles having the highest electrostatic charge.

  • Patent number: 5393717
Abstract: There is provided a process for regenerating a coked catalyst comprising a zeolite and a noble metal such as platinum. The process involves treating the coked catalyst under somewhat mild oxidation conditions, whereby a sufficient portion of the coke is removed from the catalyst to restore the hydrocarbon sorption properties of the zeolite component to the level observed in the non-coked form. Surprisingly, the original activity of the catalyst is substantially restored, even though a substantial amount of coke remains on the regenerated catalyst.

  • Patent number: 5390966
Abstract: A well tool (e.g. well screen) having a single connector for fluidly connecting the shunt conduits carried by adjacent joints of a well tool to thereby eliminate the need for separate, individual connectors. The single connector is slidably mounted on the central conduit of one of the joints and has a plurality of passages therethrough, each of which is adapted to receive a respective shunt conduit on one of the adjacent joints. After the central conduits of two adjacent joints are coupled together, the single connector is moved whereby the upper ends of the respective shunts on one joint enter the lower ends of the respective passages to thereby fluidly connect the respective shunt conduits. The single connector is then secured in a connected position.

  • Patent number: 5391609
Abstract: A transparent polymeric film that provides a barrier to the transmission of ultra-violet light. The film results from the addition of titanium dioxide particles having an average particle size less than the wavelength of visible light, yet greater than the wavelength of ultra-violet light, to a polymeric material capable of being formed as a transparent film. More specifically, the titanium dioxide particles have an average size on the order of from about 0.010 .mu.m to 0.050 .mu.m and, preferably from about 0.018 .mu.m to 0.040 .mu.m.

  • Patent number: 5389237
Abstract: A process for fluidized catalytic cracking of heavy feed using a low H.sub.2 S content lift gas in the base of a riser reactor. The lift gas is a recycled, ethylene rich stream obtained by removing H.sub.2 S from a compressed vapor stream intermediate the FCC main column receiver and the gas plant associated with the FCC unit. The low H.sub.2 S lift gas does not increase SO.sub.x emissions from the regenerator as much as a recycled vapor from the FCC main column. As the lift gas is not purified in the gas plant it does not overload it.
