Abstract: A plastic clip is located at each end of a plastic zipper of a thermoplastic bag and fused with the ends of the profile elements of the zipper into a single mass by melting the clip to the zipper material.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a catalyst and its use in a process for the conversion of ethene to a product rich in linear butenes, especially 2-butene, comprising contacting a feedstock comprising ethene under dimerization conditions with a catalyst composition comprising a porous crystalline silicate having the structure of ZSM-35 which has been treated by a) fluoriding, e.g., with NH.sub.4 F, and then b) at least partially surface deactivated for acid catalyzed reactions by chemisorption of a surface-deactivating agent which possesses an average cross section diameter greater than that of the zeolite pores, e.g., collidine.

Abstract: A process is disclosed for the highly selective skeletal isomerization of linear olefin-containing organic feeds wherein linear olefins, e.g., n-butenes, are contacted with catalyst comprising ZSM-35 under isomerization conditions to produce iso-olefins of corresponding carbon number, e.g., isobutene. High iso-olefin selectivities thus can be obtained, even at relatively low temperatures and high linear olefin partial pressures.

Abstract: This invention is a crystallization process for p-xylene recovery. A single temperature crystallization production stage is used for producing p-xylene from a feed having an above equilibrium p-xylene concentration, such as from a toluene disproportionation process. Scavenger stages are also used to raise the p-xylene recovery rate.

Abstract: The invention provides a two-step process for converting cyclopentadiene dimer to a high density fuel mixture comprising the steps of:(a) reacting said cyclopentadiene dimer in the presence of a solid catalyst comprising a porous crystalline material having a Constraint Index of from about 0.1 to about 12 under oligomerization/isomerization conditions to convert at least a portion of said cyclopentadiene dimer to a normally liquid intermediate product containing cyclopentadiene trimer, cyclopentadiene tetramer, and the isomerized and oligomerized products derived from the reaction of at least three cyclopentadiene monomer units;(b) hydrogenating said normally liquid intermediate product of step (a) in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst to form a normally liquid high energy density fuel.
Abstract: A method for improving the productivity of a well by separating and disposing of at least a portion of the water which is produced from a subterranean producing formation. The water is allowed to separate from the produced fluids under the influence of gravity while in the wellbore. The separated water is then disposed without removing it from the wellbore by flowing it into a subterranean disposal formation which has a pressure less than that of said producing formation. Preferably, the well is completed with an inclined wellbore which significantly aids in the gravity separation of the water from the produced fluids (e.g. hydrocarbons).
Abstract: A leakproof plastic zipper with integrated end stops for a zipper slider particularly suited for thermoplastic bags. An increased flange height above the interlocking elements of the zipper and an increased plow depth on the separator of the slider extending down between the flanges provide a means of stopping the travel of the slider past the ends of the zipper. The separator structure depending from the slider has a configuration in vertical cross-section corresponding to an inverted T, the horizontal portion of the T having the ends thereof adapted to be received in window structure in the flanges above the interlocking elements and adjacent one of the integrated end stops.
Abstract: In a hydrocarbon-producing well penetrating an unconsolidated hydrocarbon reservoir, the azimuthal direction of the maximum in-situ horizontal compressive stress within the reservoir having non-uniform horizontal tectonic stresses surrounding the well is determined. Perforations are formed in the reservoir, or in the casing if the well is cased, oriented in the azimuthal direction of the determined maximum in-situ horizontal compressive stress. Thereafter, hydrocarbon production is initiated from the well through the perforations whereby the potential for sand production along with produced hydrocarbons is minimized.
Abstract: A plastic reclosable fastener with slider particularly suited for plastic bags and the like wherein the reclosable fastener is provided with structure located below the interlocking elements of the fastener which when engaged by the slider controls the opening and closing of the interlocking elements of the fastener.

Abstract: A system for the prevention of jamming of pumps used with containers having a liner therein. The system includes a container having a disposable liner contained therein, a pump and a housing attached to the lower end of the pump. The housing has at least one downwardly extending leg which serves to hold down the disposable liner thereby preventing the pump from being clogged or damaged by pieces of the flexible liner. The housing also has at least one passage therethrough to allow the flow of the medium being pumped upwardly through the housing central cavity. The invention is particularly adapted to the pumping of grease.
Abstract: A method for fracturing and propping a thick and/or non-homogeneous fracture interval of a subterranean formation which is traversed by a wellbore. A workstring is lowered into the wellbore and a fracturing fluid is flowed into one end of the fracture interval annulus (i.e. that portion of the well annulus which lies adjacent the fracture interval) to initiate a fracture. The flow of fracturing fluid is ceased and a slurry containing proppants is flowed into said one end of the fracture interval annulus. During flow of fracturing fluid and slurry into said one end of the annulus, both are delivered through alternate flowpaths to different levels within said fracture interval. Alternate slugs of fracturing fluid and slurry is continued through the same end of the annulus until all of the levels or zones within the fracture interval have been fractured and propped and in some instances, also gravel-packed.

Abstract: A cement for forming a gravel pack in a washed-out interval is provided where a borehole penetrates an unconsolidated or loosely consolidated oil or gas reservoir which is likely to introduce substantial amounts of sand into the borehole. After perforating the borehole's casing at a washed-out interval of the formation, sand is introduced into the interval. Afterwards, an aqueous silicate solution is injected into said interval. Next, a spacer volume of a water-immiscible hydrocarbonaceous liquid is introduced into the interval. Thereafter, a water-miscible organic solvent containing an alkylpolysilicate is injected into the interval. A permeability retaining silica cement is formed in the interval thereby making a gravel pack. Injection of the aqueous silicate and organic solvent containing an alkylpolysilicate is continued until the interval has been consolidated by the silica cement to an extent sufficient to exclude sand and formation fines.

Abstract: Hexenes are produced when propylene is catalytically converted under moderate conditions over chosen small pore zeolite catalysts having small 10-membered ring openings. These chosen catalysts are ZSM-22, ZSM-23, ZSM-35, and ZSM-48. They are unexpectedly effective to dimerize a substantially ethylene-free propylene-rich stream to form mainly hexene isomers, a major portion of which isomers are tert-isohexenes, without making a substantial amount of trimer or other byproducts. The feed is preferably at least 60% by weight, the remainder being alkanes, mainly propane, and the olefins being limited to less than 5 mol % ethylene and less than 5 mol %, preferably less than 2 mol %, of C.sub.4.sup.=+ (mainly butenes). Because propane in the feed is essentially unaffected, plural reactors in series may be used to avoid recycling unreacted propylene with propane to the dimerization reactor.
Abstract: The present invention relates to novel multi-layer coextruded thermoplastic stretch wrap films useful for the packaging or palletizing of goods. More particularly the films of this invention comprise at least three layers having two outer layers and at least one intermediate layer placed between the outer layers. The intermediate layer is formed from a high pressure low density polyethylene resin and the outer layers are formed from a linear low density polyethylene copolymer such as ethylene copolymerized with a minor amount of at least one C.sub.4 to C.sub.10 alpha-olefin, such as hexene-1, octene-1, decene-1, 4-methyl-pentene-1 and butene-1. The force required to stretch the novel films of this invention may be controlled by the thickness of the intermediate layer relative to overall film thickness, the melt index of the intermediate layer resin, the molecular weight of the intermediate layer resin or a combination thereof.
