  • Patent number: 4700430
Abstract: A support for an article of furniture is readily interchangeable between having a glide exposed to the ground and a caster exposed to the ground with the glide being stored within a shroud. The furniture remains level in either embodiment since the total length of the support will stay the same. Minor adjustments in the length of the support are made by rotating the shroud.

  • Patent number: 4651896
Abstract: A machine for permitting access to and manual removal of one uppermost article from a stack of vertically positioned articles, such as a newspaper, upon deposit of a predetermined amount of payment in the form of coins and the like, including a manually movable vending mechanism actuated by a machine door that allows access to an article closure having an article access opening that is normally closed by a barrier member which is self-adjusting to the thickness of the article to be vended and which by a pawl and ratchet mechanism is withdrawn from access blocking position upon actuation of the vending mechanism by the machine door. The machine may include a coin receiver and totalizer that permits access through the movable door to the article to be vended through the article access opening.

  • Patent number: 4592147
Abstract: A chamber filled with an oscillation damping liquid has a non-magnetic plumb bob suspended from an upper portion of the chamber and a radiated beam path traverses the chamber below the suspension point of the freely suspended plumb bob. The beam path and plumb bob are arranged in a desired relationship whereby in order for the suspending member of the plumb bob to completely block the beam path the chamber, or the body on which it is mounted, must be in a desired predetermined position, such as a true horizontal or a true vertical position. An electric power source and circuitry is provided to operate in response to blocking of the beam path to provide a desired electrical output indicating the desired predetermined position has been achieved and is being maintained. The electrical output may be used to operate visual or aural indication emitting device to notify the user when the desired position is achieved.

  • Patent number: 4580841
Abstract: A chair seat structure is formed of a plurality of identically dimensioned planar members and a plurality of plastic connective members having slots to receive and engage the planar members. This construction provides easy handling, economical shipment and storage, and dimensional adjustability of the chair seats during manufacture. In use the chair seats can adjust to uneven floor surfaces which support the frame on which the chair seat is mounted. This adjustability under the weight of an occupant aids in preventing the chair from undergoing discomforting teetering.

  • Patent number: 4565010
Abstract: An angular orientation detector and indicator has a plumb bob suspended in a vertically extending chamber of a housing. A beam of radiation is emitted across the chamber from a beam emitter to a beam receiver and the plumb bob is swingable through a beam path extending between the emitter and receiver. When the housing of the detector is positioned in a preselected angular orientation the plumb bob comes to rest blocking the beam path to substantially reduce or prevent the radiated beam from being received by the receiver. An electrically actuated signal, such as an audible or visual signal, or both, is thereby actuated to indicate that the detector is at a preselected angular orientation. Such detectors may be mounted on builder's levels to indicate when the level is in a preselected angular orientation, such as a horizontal or vertical orientation. Other embodiments and useful applications of such detectors are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4527711
Abstract: An article dispensing machine, such as a newspaper vending machine, operable in response to insertion of an appropriate coin, or plurality of coins, has a mechanism which edge engages and dispenses one uppermost article, such as a newspaper, to the purchaser when a mechanism actuator unlocked by insertion of the coins, is manually operated. Upon return to its original position after dispensing one newspaper the actuator cannot be operated again until unlocked by another insertion of appropriate coins.
