  • Patent number: 8265982
Abstract: Systems, methods and computer program products for determining a learning curve value and modeling an associated profitability of a good are provided. According to one method of determining a learning curve value, recurring costs of producing each unit of the good are modeled as a function of potential learning curve values. Nonrecurring costs of producing each unit of the good are then modeled as a function of potential learning curve values. Next, the learning curve value is determined based upon the recurring costs model and the nonrecurring costs value such that the sum of the recurring costs and nonrecurring costs at the determined learning curve value is minimized over the potential learning curve values.

  • Patent number: 8262832
Abstract: A flexible packaging laminate is formed to have a built-in opening and reclose feature by forming the laminate as a two-part structure having an outer structure joined in face-to-face relation with an inner structure. Score lines are formed in both structures to enable an opening to be formed through the laminate by lifting an opening portion (e.g., a flap or the like) of the two structures out of the plane of the laminate. The score line through the outer structure defines a larger opening than the score line through the inner structure, such that a marginal region of the outer structure extends beyond the edge of the opening portion of the inner structure. A pressure-sensitive adhesive is used to re-adhere the marginal region to an underlying surface of the inner structure adjacent the opening through the laminate.

  • Patent number: 8265069
Abstract: A system, terminating node, method, and computer program product enable an originating node in a public network to communicate with a terminating node in a private network by sending a non-IP-based message from the originating node to the terminating node, thereby causing the terminating node to initiate IP-based communication with the originating node. Because a client behind a NAT and/or firewall in a private network will generally be able to connect and establish a TCP/IP session to a server in the public network, this improves the ability of the originating node to communicate with the terminating node whenever desired. Once the IP-based communication session is established, the two nodes can exchange data in both directions until the connection between them is closed by either node. As such, unmodified client and server TCP/IP applications are able to traverse a NAT/firewall, without the need for configuration of an intermediary node.

  • Patent number: 8266677
Abstract: Systems and methods provide for secure communications between local and remote devices or networks in virtual private networks. Data can be communicated between the local and remote devices using the User Datagram Protocol (UDP) to reduce network overhead for the data communications. The UDP-based data communications are made secure and reliable by various techniques, for example: confirming that a packet sent by a source component is received by the receiving component, and guaranteeing packet sequencing by buffering packets as they are received and only delivering them to the target in the original sequence that they were sent from the source. Because TCP based communications are common, a TCP-style API can be used to enable programmers to more easily implement the UDP-based communications. Other embodiments of the invention relate to transport protocol enhancements for use within virtual private networks, including protocol mapping, protocol buffering, and protocol filtering.

  • Patent number: 8264542
Abstract: A system for image processing is provided. The system includes a region of interest (ROI) module receiving video from a camera and detects a ROI(s) in a first image. A lookup table generates a value responsive to block type for a first vanishing point (VP). A labeling module identifies a point “p” most close to the first VP, a point “q” most remote to the first VP and a length “h” between “p” and “q” in each ROI(s), and generates information on p, q and h. Another lookup table generates information on p?, q? and h?, wherein p? is a point most close to a second VP, q? is a point most remote to the second VP and h? is a length between p? and q? in ROI(s) in the second image. A transforming module transforms ROI(s) in the first image into an ROI in the second image.
