  • Patent number: 8342735
Abstract: A biological or chemical reactor (2) has an inner vessel (4) disposed within an outer vessel (6) and an annular space (16) defined therebetween in which fluid is to be contained. The fluid comprises reactants of a biological or chemical reaction. A reaction support (10a) is disposed in an opening in a wall of one of the vessels and is designed to support a structure such as a scaffold that receives fluid under pressure from the annular space. The reactor generates hydrodynamic pressure and shear stress in the fluid within the annular space, upon relative rotational movement between the vessels so as to drive the fluid through intersticies in the scaffold.

  • Patent number: 8337851
Abstract: Methods for identifying subjects having a cancer or pre-malignant condition that will benefit from anti-CD40 therapeutic agents that modulate CD40L-mediated CD40 signaling are provided. The methods comprise the use of biomarkers of cellular apoptosis, cell proliferation and survival, and CD40 signaling pathways to monitor ex vivo response to one or more anti-CD40 therapeutic agents of interest that modulate CD40 signaling on CD40-expressing neoplastic cells. The ex vivo prognostic assays can be used alone or in conjunction with other prognostic assays to identify candidate subjects who will benefit from treatment with anti-CD40 therapeutic agents. Methods of the invention also comprise the use of these biomarkers to monitor in vivo efficacy of treatment with an anti-CD40 therapeutic agent.

  • Patent number: 8340996
Abstract: An automated method for assessing the readiness of a plurality of repairable systems, such as a fleet of aircraft, is provided. In addition to identifying the repairable systems that will be operational, the relative state of readiness of the repairable systems is determined such that the repairable systems that are most likely to successfully complete the designated task can be selected. Additionally, an automated method of analyzing the maintenance operations performed upon a plurality of repairable systems, such as a fleet of aircraft, is provided. In this regard, the relative states of readiness of the repairable systems are determined and maintenance resources are allocated based upon the respective measures of the relative states of readiness of the repairable systems. As such, maintenance operations scheduled for the aircraft that will have the greatest state of readiness upon completion of the maintenance operations can be prioritized.
