  • Patent number: 7618615
Abstract: Methods and pharmaceutical compositions for preconditioning and/or providing neuroprotection to the animal central nervous system against the effects of ischemia, trauma, metal poisoning and neurodegeneration, including the associated cognitive, behavioral and physical impairments. In one embodiment, the method is accomplished by stimulating and stabilizing hypoxia-inducible factor-1? (HIF-1?). HIF-1? is known to provide a neuroprotective benefit under ischemic conditions. Patients at risk for certain diseases or disorders that are associated with risk for cerebral ischemia may benefit, e.g., those at risk for Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Wilson's disease or stroke or those patients having head or spinal cord injury. Patients undergoing certain medical procedures that may result in ischemia may also benefit. Initially, the possibility of ischemia or neurodegeneration is recognized.

  • Patent number: 7611085
Abstract: A waste fragmenting machine comprising a power feed system comprising a power feed wheel, an angular yoke connected to the power feed wheel and at least one, preferably two, sets of upper and lower linkage arms, the linkage arms being operatively connected with the machine frame and the angular yoke. The upper and lower arms of each set of linkage arms being arranged within the same vertical plane, but in a non-parallel relationship to each other and the upper arm being shorter in length than the lower arm. The linkage arms adjust the position of the power feed wheel to accommodate the size of feed material, thus maintaining a generally constant downward pressure thereon. Raising the power feed wheel under the present invention maintains the proximity between the power feed wheel and fragmenting rotor by moving the power feed wheel laterally in the direction of the rotor, thus promoting fragmenting efficiency by maximizing feed stability and maintaining steady feed rates.

  • Patent number: 7611662
Abstract: The present invention provides a fully rotatable swivel attachment tip for a cutting torch over a broad radius range. The tip comprises two selectable fixed angle members that, in combination allow orientation of the cutting tip precisely where the operator desires. In addition to the variability of the first and second angles of the first and second angle members, the length of the attachment between the first and second selectable angles may be variable and selectable by the operator to facilitate orientation of the cutting tip and the cutting flame supported and directed thereon. Thus, the cutting tip is thus rotatable along two axes and in two dimensions and is capable of circumscribing a partial sphere of varying diameter.

  • Patent number: 7592796
Abstract: Disclosed is a system and method for providing an effective means for making it easy to identify which holes in an interface plate are to be populated with probes and which are to be left empty. This identification of holes or apertures in a plate is used most commonly an electrical probe testing plates where a probe array is set up and inserted though the plate. The problem is that it is very difficult to double check to see if all probes are installed. With a two-tone color identifier (or other techniques disclosed herein) it is easy to visually or machine read the probe plate for probe installation errors. The method employs coating the plate with a colorant and ablating colorant adjacent holes, which are either populated or empty, the difference being easy to spot.

  • Patent number: 7584022
Abstract: A method system and controller for controlling fluid flow in a rotational atherectomy device. A source of fluid is provided through a pump to the rotational atherectomy device, wherein the pump maintains the fluid flow at a minimal rate during a time period when a drive shaft of the device is not rotating. A first control is activated to increase a rate of the fluid flow and second control is activate to initiate a rotation of the drive shaft during another time period when the fluid flow is at the increased rate.

  • Patent number: 7577249
Abstract: An automatic handset lifter is used with a wireless communication system. The system attaches to a conventional telephone and creates a communication link between the telephone and a portable device such as a wireless headset. The system automatically detects the ringing of the telephone by sensing magnetic fields of the telephone speaker. Upon ring detection, the system creates a communications link with the remote device and deploys a mechanical lifting device to lift the handset. Lifting the handset activates the telephone cradle switch to answer the phone and thereby allows the remote device to communicate over the telephone.

  • Patent number: 7571947
Abstract: The present invention extends the truck bed, thus increasing cargo space by the length of the truck tailgate. One embodiment of the invention comprises rotatably attaching an end panel to the tailgate, with rotatable and storable support members. Another embodiment comprises right and left side panels rotatably attached to the end panel. When the assembly is stored, either the support members or the side panels are rotated inward to rest against the inner surface of the end panel and the end panel is rotated downwardly and secured against the upper surface of the tailgate. When the assembly is deployed, the end panel is unsecured from the tailgate and is rotated upwardly until approximately perpendicular with the tailgate and the cargo space bed. The support members or side panels are rotated outwardly and secured to complete deployment.

  • Patent number: 7554734
Abstract: A grating has a high diffraction efficiency into the minus first diffracted order in transmission, for both TE and TM polarizations. The incident angle may optionally be chosen so that the minus first diffracted order in reflection would be retroreflected back to the incident beam. The grating may be formed from various materials and/or layers, where the thicknesses of the individual layers may be determined by an optimization or simulation process. In one aspect, the grating may have four or more layers, formed with three or more materials. In another aspect, the grating may have a longitudinal refractive index profile that contains at least two local extrema, such as a maximum and/or minimum. Such a grating may be formed from three or more materials, two materials, or a single material that has a continuously varying refractive index. Any or all of the materials may have a continuously varying refractive index profile, as well.

  • Patent number: 7540801
Abstract: The present invention relates particularly to an oscillating grinding machine. The grinding machine comprises a driving motor (3) surrounded by a body (3), and a drive shaft (4) cooperating with the driving motor. The drive shaft comprises a grinding head (5) that constitutes a support for a grinding product (8). The drive shaft (4) is arranged in two pieces and comprises a main shaft (11) and an eccentric shaft (10) arranged rigidly thereto. The eccentric shaft comprises a centre line (12) that assumes an angle (?) against a corresponding centre line (13) of the main shaft, and thus the grinding head (5) will assume an eccentric placement in relation to the main shaft (11). Thus, the grinding head is arranged to oscillate in a substantially spherical plane provided by the rotation of the main shaft and the eccentricity and inclination of the eccentric shaft in relation to the main shaft.

  • Patent number: 7536812
Abstract: A system for a 3-D tab for a folder, a retrofit for existing folders to have a 3-D tab and a method of making same is disclosed. The 3-D tab is created by an extension or attachable element which can be folded onto itself so that one edge surface is at an angle relative to the panels of the file folder allowing it to be read from the side. This also aids in allowing the tab to be fed through a printer.

  • Patent number: RE40867
Abstract: A touchpad is formed of an electrically insulating membrane (10) with a first series of spaced apart conductors (12) on a first face of membrane (10) and a second series of spaced apart conductors (14) on or proximal thereto, in which there is no electrical contact between the first and second series of conductors (12, 14) Each conductor in the first and second series of conductors is sensitive to the proximity of a finger to modify the capacitance of the proximate conductor to detect the presence of the finger positioned close to that conductor. A scanning system operative to sample one of the conductors in turn from both the first and second series of conductors (12, 14) in order to measure and store a capacitance value associated with that respective conductor. The scanning system is operative to maintain all conductors (12-n, 14-n) at a common potential equal to the potential of the conductor being sampled when the remaining conductors are not actively being sampled by the scanning system.
