  • Patent number: 7651248
Abstract: Provided is a lighting fitting intended to be mounted in a panel. The fitting includes a body in which a lamp may be mounted. The body includes one or more ventilation apertures which are sized and configured to allow heat generated by a lamp in the body to be adequately vented to the exterior of the body, but to inhibit the passage of fire from the interior of the body to the exterior of the body. The one or more ventilation apertures may be formed by a slot in the body. The one or more ventilation apertures may be configured so that when the fitting is installed in its intended orientation, an at least partially downward path is defined between the interior and exterior of the body of the fitting through the aperture.

  • Patent number: 7648617
Abstract: In a biosensor for measuring a specific substance in a liquid sample, one or a combination of sugar alcohol, metallic salt, organic acid or organic acid salt which has at least one carboxyl group in a molecule, and organic acid or organic acid salt which has at least one carboxyl group and one amino group in a molecule, is included in a reagent layer provided on electrodes, thereby providing a highly-accurate biosensor which is excellent in stability and has high response (sensitivity, linearity) of the sensor to the substrate concentration.

  • Patent number: 7645225
Abstract: In a left ventricular assist device (LVAD) a rotodynamic blood pump (10) is powered by a brushless DC motor (12). A power supply (14) supplies power to the motor (12). Three feedback channels, one for each of voltage, current, and motor speed lead to a microcontroller or microprocessor (18). The three feedback waveforms are analyzed, and from these waveforms, motor input power, patient heart rate, current pump flow rate, and systemic pressure are determined. The microprocessor (18) then calculates a desired flow rate proportional to the patient heart rate. The microprocessor communicates a new power output to a commutation circuit (16), which regulates power to the motor (12). The pump (10) also includes safety checks that are prioritized over desired pump flow. These include prevention of ventricular suction, low pulsatility, minimum and maximum pump speed, minimum speed-relative pump flow, minimum absolute pump flow, minimum and maximum motor input power.

  • Patent number: 7640529
Abstract: A system for generating photomask orders in a specified format includes at least one template or order for entry and storage of photomask order data, wherein the at least one template or order is created based upon requirements of a specified photomask order format. The system includes at least one set of rules corresponding to the at least one template or order, wherein the set of rules includes instructions which insure that a user enter complete information into the at least one template or order as required by the specified order format. The templates or order may be further comprised of components and/or subcomponents which can be stored separately. The data fields in the orders, templates, components, subcomponents, etc. may reference specification grades which can in turn be easily modified to update one or more orders, templates, components, subcomponents, etc. simultaneously.

  • Patent number: 7621901
Abstract: An absorbent article is provided having a back waist portion with a fibrous outer surface and two lateral ends, a front waist portion with a fibrous outer surface and two lateral ends adjacent the lateral ends of the back waist portion, two prefolded nonwoven connectors each connecting two adjacent ends of the back waist portion and the front waist portion, and a hook fastener prefastened to one of said nonwoven connectors such that the prefastened hook is pre-engaged with the outer fibrous surface of the front waist region. Each nonwoven connector may be folded n times wherein n is an integer of front 2 to 30. The front and back lateral edges may be folded over the top surface of said article, and secured in place by a securement means.

  • Patent number: 7609060
Abstract: For the brain, a variety of automated non-iterative shimming methods using phase evolution derived B0 maps have been reported. These methods assume that there is only a single chemical species contributing to the image. Although true in the brain, lipid contributions from skin, bone marrow and structural fat, may approach or exceed the concentration of water in other organs. In these instances, standard B0 mapping methods cannot be used due to contributions arising from the lipids. To overcome these limitations the present invention discloses a multi-point B0 mapping method combined with Dixon imaging to provide fully automated shimming of the human calf.

  • Patent number: 7591787
Abstract: A method of measuring blood flow including several steps. In an initial step a first ultrasound beam is oriented in a direction substantially perpendicular to the direction of the blood flow to be measured. Next, the Doppler spectrum obtained from the backscattered echoes of said first ultrasound beam is measured. Subsequently, the ultrasound beam is reoriented so that the Doppler spectrum of the backscattered echoes of the ultrasound beam is substantially symmetrical around the zero frequency. The Doppler frequency of the backscattered echoes of a second ultrasound beam oriented at a fixed angle to the first ultrasound beam is then measured. Finally, the rate of blood flow is calculated based on the angle between the ultrasound beams and the measured Doppler frequency of the backscattered echoes of the second ultrasound beam.

  • Patent number: 7592314
Abstract: The present invention relates to neurological and physiological dysfunction associated with neuron disorders. In particular, the invention relates to the involvement of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and homologues in the aetiology of motor neuron disorders. The invention further concerns a novel, mutant transgenic mouse (VEGFm/m) with a homozygous deletion in the hypoxia responsive element (HRE) of the VEGF promoter which alters the hypoxic upregulation of VEGF. These mice suffer severe adult onset muscle weakness due to progressive spinal motor neuron degeneration which is reminiscent of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)—a fatal disorder with unknown aetiology. Furthermore, the neuropathy of these mice is not caused by vascular defects, but is due to defective VEGF-mediated survival signals to motor neurons.
