Patent number: 4596123Abstract: This invention is an improved refrigerant-cycle heat pump that requires neither a defrosting means nor a backup heat source. From widely varying outside environments, it pumps heat to heat living spaces or domestic hot water. Liquid refrigerant flows from a receiver through expansion valves into an outside evaporator consisting of a segmented array of plates where heat is absorbed from the atmosphere to evaporate the refrigerant. The resultant gas is compressed by a motor-driven compressor, gives up heat in a condenser, becomes liquid, and returns to the receiver. The segmented evaporator enables the self-governing heat pump system to choose the proper magnitude of evaporator area, in response to its determination of compressor suction pressure or motor power demand, so as to provide a steady refrigerant flow to the compressor and thereby maintain optimum heat pumping despite extreme excursions of outside temperature.Type: GrantFiled: January 9, 1984Date of Patent: June 24, 1986Inventor: Curtis L. Patent number: 4557968Abstract: A directional electrostatic dissipating fabric and method of making such fabric constructed of a woven or knitted base fabric having an integrally woven or knitted grid structure which is raised above only one surface of the base fabric forming a fabric with a raised grid on one side and a smooth or substantially smooth grid on the other side thereby resulting in increased, directional electrostatic dissipation performance from the side having the raised grid. The grid is formed from an electroconductive yarn plied to a carrier yarn which is then integrally woven or knitted into the fabric in the warp direction, the fill direction or both, thereby producing a fabric which exhibits the rapid, yet controlled, directional dissipation of static electricity into the air.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 1984Date of Patent: December 10, 1985Assignee: Stern & Stern Textiles, Inc.Inventors: Peter B. Patent number: 4555683Abstract: Resonators magnetically tunable over a broad rf frequency range capable of operation at relatively low rf frequencies (VHF band) are disclosed as well as tunable devices based on them. The resonators comprise a resonator body made of a ferrimagnetic single-crystal material which is generally flat, and is generally rotationally symmetrical with respect to an axis of rotation, for example disk-like or oblate spheroidal-like. The axis of rotation of the resonator body is oriented with respect to the crystalline lattice in a particular way depending on the anisotropy. The same orientation is required for the dc field whose magnitude determines the resonance frequency. The resonators are particularly useful in broadband tunable rf and microwave filters and oscillators, and can be tuned by means of the dc field to resonate from about 50 MHz to several GHz.Type: GrantFiled: January 30, 1984Date of Patent: November 26, 1985Assignee: Eaton CorporationInventors: Gunter U.
