  • Patent number: 4371143
Abstract: An earthquake isolation floor comprises a horizontal plate-like support frame having a generally polygonal configuration, a support frame having a horizontal surface with a similar configuration to that of the fundamental frame in plan view, but of relatively smaller dimensions and slidably mounted thereon, and horizontal tensile springs disposed between the fundamental and support frames each in a prestressed condition such that when the support frame is moved relative to the fundamental frame by an earthquake, etc. the springs are caused to be elongated by the fact that their one end in the direction of the movement does not encounter any resistance to the movement, while the other end opposite to the movement is prevented from moving.

  • Patent number: 4370871
Abstract: Disclosed is a warp knitted narrow lace and method of forming the same in which purls or decorative loops are formed in a curved line along curved scallops of the lace. This warp knitted narrow lace is manufactured by knitting the base fabric into a Raschel lace having a scalloped edge and simultaneously knitting laid in yarns into the edges forming the scalloped edge of the lace in such manner that the laid in yarns are laid in with stitches of soluble yarns and/or ravel yarns located outside base fabric at the outermost portion of the scalloped edge and with stitches of the base fabric in the indentations of the scallops. Dissolving the soluble yarns and/or pulling out the ravel yarns in the area of the outermost edge of the scallops, and cutting the stitches of the base fabric outwards of the purls in the indentations of the scallops results in the formation of a novel lace having purls formed in a curved line along the entire scallops.

  • Patent number: 4367776
Abstract: A machine for the manufacture of reinforcing bodies for concrete pipes and the like, which comprises longitudinal bars and wire wound about the longitudinal bars. Two coaxial discs are provided. A main disc, fixedly mounted on a base frame, carries radially displaceable guide pieces for the longitudinal bars. A support disc, mounted on a carriage movable in the direction of the axis of the main disc, carries a clamping device for clamping the ends of the longitudinal bars at a selectively different spacing from the axis of the disc. The clamping device comprises elongate clamping members which constitute radially extending clamping slits. The clamping slits open and close in parallel over their entire length. The length and position of the clamping members correspond to the range of adjustment of the guide pieces on the main disc.

  • Patent number: 4365655
Abstract: A flame-retardant woven fabric is composed of a warp interwoven with a weft. The threads of the warp contain substantially exclusively staple fibers, and the threads of the weft contain substantially exclusively flame-retardant matrix fibers. The respective thicknesses and densities of the warp and weft threads can be varied so that the matrix fiber content may be varied from about 50% to about 75%, by volume, of the total.

  • Patent number: 4365657
Abstract: A machine for the manufacture of reinforcing bodies for concrete pipes and the like, which comprises longitudinal bars and wire wound about the longitudinal bars. Two coaxial, synchronously driven discs are provided. A first disc carries radially displaceable guide pieces as a welding rest for the longitudinal bars. A welding device is mounted on a transversely moveable welding carriage and makes welds successively on the longitudinal bars. The guide pieces and the welding device are adjustable automatically and continuously over the total radial stroke given with a first disc of specific diameter. Traction lines guided by rollers in the longitudinal direction engage the guide pieces. An axially directed hydraulic cylinder drives the traction lines and a transversely directed hydraulic cylinder, synchronized with the axially directed cylinder, drives the welding carriage. It is consequently possible to produce in succession reinforcing bodies of selected diameters without loss of time for changeover.

  • Patent number: 4362075
Abstract: A common intermittent drive mechanism intermittently rotates a feed roller and a cutter rotor. An intervening gear and the radii of the feed roller and the cutter rotor differentiate the circumferential speed of the roller and the rotor to provide a slip between a continuous strip-like dispenser sheet fed by the feed roller and the cutter rotor surface. A suction means in the cutter rotor surface holds the dispenser sheet while allowing the slip thereof. When the movement of the cutter rotor is interrupted, a cutter is actuated and separates the individual articles from the remaining dispenser sheet. While the separated article is carried by the moving surface of the cutter rotor for a distance greater than the pitch of the article wrapped in the dispenser sheet, another single article is moved into the position for separation, and this procedure is repeated.

  • Patent number: 4356960
Abstract: From the centrifugal basket chamber to which the liquid-solids mixture is fed, the separated liquid discharges through an overflow outlet at the radially inner edge of an annular horizontal wall forming the upper end of said chamber, the discharging liquid then flowing upwardly along the inner surface of an annular vertical wall protruding upwardly from said horizontal wall and then flowing radially outward along the upper surface of a lip which overlies only the radially inner part of said horizontal wall in spaced relation thereto. The discharging liquid is thus prevented from contacting the upper surface of said horizontal wall and thereby imposing a drag on the rotating basket.

  • Patent number: 4350618
Abstract: In a microelectronic package of the type where Si-based integrated circuits are eutectically attached to a Pd/Au-based thick film conductor, a method of reducing the potential for thermal runaway is taught. The method involves increasing the surface area of the Pd to lower the Vbe rating. This reduces the potential for thermal runaway in subsequent integrated circuit operation. It has also been found that increasing the particle size of the Au component further decreases the Vbe rating.

  • Patent number: 4348077
Abstract: The present invention relates to a display device utilizing an electrochemically reversible coloring reaction and, more specifically, to an electrochromic display device (referred to as ECD hereinafter) which makes it possible to carry out a stable display to appearing-disappearing performance using an iron compound insoluble to an electrolyte as an electrochemical reactant to a counter electrode. In order to operate an ECD stably, it is necessary to stabilize the electro-potential applied to the counter electrode. The ECD of the invention is characterized by using iron berlinate or derivatives thereof as a potential stabilizing material of the counter electrode, and the ECD is constructed with a display electrode and a counter electrode provided with the said compound as a reactive component thereon, thereby making it possible to maintain a stably display function.
