  • Patent number: 8116974
Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for conducting searches and generating routes to selected points of interest using a wireless client-server (WCS) navigator. A method includes the step of requesting, at a mobile unit, information about one or more locations meeting certain criteria. Locations meeting the criteria are displayed on the display screen at the location of the user and, if a location is selected, a route to include the selected location is automatically generated. Guidance regarding how to travel to the selected location may also be provided. If the user is already en route to a destination when a route to a selected location is requested, the navigator may generate a route that includes both the original destination and the selected new location.

  • Patent number: 8113470
Abstract: A variable lift, variable drag airfoil assembly including a leading edge and a trailing edge connected together in spaced apart relation and an elastic skin connected to and extending between the leading and trailing edges to define an airfoil profile. A resilient spring member positioned within said airfoil profile exerts biased outward pressure against a central portion of the lifting surface of the elastic skin to automatically create a varying thickness of said airfoil profile responsive to increased air speed over the airfoil profile wherein lift and drag of the airfoil assembly are proportionately reduced as airspeed increases. In a preferred embodiment, the airfoil assembly is inverted in the form of a rear spoiler of a land vehicle oriented transversely across a rear portion of the vehicle to produce an increasing downward road gripping force on the rear wheels of the vehicle with increasing vehicle speed while reducing the drag produced by the airfoil assembly.

  • Patent number: 8108061
Abstract: According to one aspect of the invention a system and method for minimizing assembly line manufacturing including an override is provided. Each workstation is equipped with a docking station. A first database is in communication with the programmable controller and the docking station, and the docking station is also in communication with the workstation tools as well as the programmable controller. The override is disposed on a docking station. The system includes a checklist of tasks that each workstation tool is to perform. Accordingly the first database will receive the checklist for each part and will record whether or not each particular part had each of its tasks performed properly. The override may be actuated so as to allow a part to flow downstream the assembly line even though the all the tasks were not completed properly, thus minimizing manufacturing disruptions.

  • Patent number: 8106718
Abstract: A voltage controlled oscillator outputting a differential signal includes: an inductor connected to a first power supply supplying first voltage; first and second transistors for differential switching; first and second variable capacitors connected to the inductor in parallel; a third transistor of which a gate electrode is connected to a first node; and a fourth transistor of which a gate electrode is connected to a second node. When bias voltage is applied to the gate electrode of the first transistor to be turned on, negative resistance is generated by voltage applied to the first capacitor and the second capacitor through the first transistor. When voltage outputted through the first node is applied to the gate electrode of the third transistor to be turned on, the voltage is additionally applied to the first capacitor and the second capacitor by the third transistor to increase the negative resistance.

  • Patent number: 8107725
Abstract: An image processor according to the present invention is configured to generate a plurality of multiresolution images of different resolutions from an input image (S16), to set a correlation evaluation function for each multiresolution image, calculate a correlation value between the correlation evaluation function and each pixel in the multiresolution image, and extract a position of a local region on the basis of the correlation value (S18), and to set a size of the local region according to the resolution of the multiresolution image (S22), and to detect an object in the local region. This enables extraction of the local region at an appropriate position and in an appropriate range for a characteristic portion of the input image. For this reason, a target range is appropriately limited and detection of the object is quickly carried out without deterioration of accuracy.

  • Patent number: 8105341
Abstract: A hand-held suture removal device exhibiting a generally elongated body. First and second biasing portions extend from one end of the body and establish a gap therebetween. A blade extends from the body, typically from one of the biasing portions and in proximity to the gap defined between the biasing portions. The blade is manipulated to section a suture projecting from first and second locations of a patient's skin. A trailing edge of the suture is gripped between opposing and abutting surfaces established by the biasing portions and, upon deflecting of the device in a direction away from the patient, forcibly withdraws each of a plurality of sutures in rapid and successive fashion.
