  • Patent number: 7756563
Abstract: A method provides guidance to the physician during a live bronchoscopy or other endoscopic procedures. The 3D motion of the bronchoscope is estimated using a fast coarse tracking step followed by a fine registration step. The tracking is based on finding a set of corresponding feature points across a plurality of consecutive bronchoscopic video frames, then estimating for the new pose of the bronchoscope. In the preferred embodiment the pose estimation is based on linearization of the rotation matrix. By giving a set of corresponding points across the current bronchoscopic video image, and the CT-based virtual image as an input, the same method can also be used for manual registration. The fine registration step is preferably a gradient-based Gauss-Newton method that maximizes the correlation between the bronchoscopic video image and the CT-based virtual image. The continuous guidance is provided by estimating the 3D motion of the bronchoscope in a loop.

  • Patent number: 7749221
Abstract: A manually supported electrosurgical device comprises an elongated electrode supported for motion within an insulated housing so that in one position its operating end extends from the housing into a surgically useful position and in another position its operating end is retracted within the housing. A spring has one end connected to the housing and the other end connected to the spring so as to normally urge it to the retracted position. A manually actuable trigger supported on the housing may be depressed to force the electrode against the spring force so that its operating end extends out of the housing. When the pressure on the trigger is removed, the spring forces the electrode back into the housing. When depressed, the trigger connects the electrode to a radio frequency generator.

  • Patent number: 7743847
Abstract: A number of cam-operated devices such as power tools (10) are described, the tools having a rotary drive device (24) for rotating a drive shaft (36) having a cylinder cam (42) mounted thereon. A pair of cam followers (54) are located within a cam track (44) provided on the cam member (42), such that rotation of the cam (42) causes axial movement of the cam followers (54), which may be attached to a drive shaft (48) and a tool bit (12). A range of shapes of cam track (44) are described, each of which is non-sinusoidal in shape. Various embodiments of the invention provide non-sinusoidal cam tracks having forward or rearward throw sections which are respectively steeper, shorter, or provide greater acceleration of the cam followers than sinusoidal cam tracks of equivalent wavelength and amplitude. Related piston and cylinder devices and reciprocal drive devices are also described.
