  • Patent number: 8297893
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for operating an actuation device (20), which is used to clamp and loosen a clamping device which comprises a tie bolt which can be adjusted in an axial manner in a machine spindle (3), for actuating a clamping head (6) which co-operates with clamping claws (5). Initially, force is exerted upon the tie bolt (4) by means of an actuation device (20) which is used to clamp in an axial clamping direction, until the axial length thereof is fixed in relation to the machine spindle (3) by means of self-locking. According to the invention, after self-locking is obtained, the effect of the force in the direction of clamping of the actuation element (20) on the tie bolt is stopped and remains blocked while the clamping device is being used, and to release clamping, the tie bolt (4) is displaced by the actuation device (20) in the direction of release which is counter to the clamping direction. The invention relates to a device for carrying out said method.

  • Patent number: 8291738
Abstract: A method of leveling metal strip having a thickness ?1 mm has the steps of passing the strip in a travel direction through an upstream braking-roller set and a downstream tension-roller set and through a group of leveling rollers between the braking-roller set and the tension-roller set. A predetermined tension equal to at least 70% of a yield limit of the strip is applied to the strip between the braking-roller set and the tension-roller set for stretch-bend or tension straightening by differentially driving the upstream and downstream roller sets. The strip is bent between the leveling rollers to correct longitudinal curve. Leveling rollers are used of diameters that increase downstream in the travel direction and that are so great that the strip follows the curvature of the leveling rollers at the predetermined tension.

  • Patent number: 8294587
Abstract: A smoke detector has a housing, a smoke sensor in the housing capable of detecting smoke therein, and an alarm connected to the sensor signaling when the smoke sensor detects smoke. A partition subdivides the housing into separate first and second chambers, and the housing is formed with first and second smoke holes allowing air from the exterior into the first and second chambers. The partition has a sensor port provided with a sensor for detecting air flow through the sensor port and a fan port having a fan for drawing air from one of the chambers and forcing it into the other chamber. A controller connected to the fan and to the air-flow sensor operates the fan means to move air from the one chamber through the fan port into the other chamber and generates an output when air flow through the sensor port exceeds a predetermined limit.

  • Patent number: 8282322
Abstract: Race grooves and lobe outer surfaces of a constant-velocity race gear centered on a gear axis are finished by engaging a first groove of the race gear with a rotating groove-machining tool and relatively moving the race gear and rotating groove-machining tool arcuately to finish the first groove while holding the race gear against rotation about its gear axis. Then the first groove of the race gear is disengaged from the rotating groove-machining tool while holding the race gear against rotation about its gear axis. Then the race gear is rotated about its gear axis to align a second groove with the rotating groove-machining tool while engaging a first lobe outer surface with a rotating surface-machining tool to finish same. These steps are repeated in the same order to finish the second groove and a second lobe outer surface and so on until all the grooves and lobe outer surfaces of the race gear are finished.

  • Patent number: 8280848
Abstract: International-roaming-relevant data are exchanged between two roaming partner networks as part of a new communication relationship. From the start of this communication relationship, a logbook is maintained at least on the data-processing system of the first communication network in which logbook changes are entered that relate to the content of the local database. Based on entries in the logbook, the data-processing system recognizes in completely automatic fashion that a synchronization of data is required and implements this action between the internal network operator database and the data-processing system of the second communication network.

  • Patent number: 8276508
Abstract: An overload protector has an input element, an output element juxtaposed with the input element, and a clamping plate. Fasteners fix the clamping plate to one of the elements against relative movement. A coupling between the clamping plate and the other of the elements permits only limited relative movement of the elements through a stroke having a predetermined length in a predetermined direction. A connector between the clamping plate and the other element fixes the clamping plate and the other element together against relative movement until an overload force greater than a predetermined critical limit is exerted shifting either of the elements toward or away from the other element in the predetermined direction.

  • Patent number: 8278575
Abstract: A triggering device for a horn system of a motor vehicle is integrated in a steering wheel (2) of the motor vehicle. In order to prevent a relative movement of components associated with the steering wheel in relation to each other, but still enable a secure and reliable actuation of the triggering device of the horn system while at the same time allowing an optically compact and appealing design of the steering wheel (2), the invention proposes for the triggering device to comprise a first triggering unit (7), with which a parameter inherent in intended activation of the horn is detected. When such a parameter is detected, a first triggering signal can be emitted. The invention comprises a second triggering unit (11), with which a further parameter inherent in an intended activation of the horn is detected and a second triggering signal can be emitted.

  • Patent number: 8261591
Abstract: A semifinished hardenable-steel workpiece is introduced into a gap between a punch tool and a complementary die tool while the workpiece is heated above the AC3 point. Then one of the tools is vertically shifted toward the other tool so as to deform the workpiece to a predetermined shape. Subsequently the workpiece is gripped between the punch and the die tools while cooling at least one of the tools to press-quench the workpiece. Finally, but before the press-quenching is completed, an edge is cut off the still hot workpiece by relatively shifting an upper die and a lower die vertically past each other.

  • Patent number: 8256494
Abstract: A continuous-casting unit produces a longitudinally extending and traveling strand having a solid shell and a liquid core. A strand-guiding apparatus has a plurality of longitudinally spaced section frames and respective pairs of roller assemblies carried on the frames and transversely flanking and bearing transversely on the strand. Each pair forms a gap through which the strand passes, and each roller assembly is formed by two aligned subrollers. A respective center is provided bearing between the subrollers of each roller assembly and bracing inner ends of the respective subrollers transversely against the respective frame. Respective outer rollers at outer ends of the subrollers of each roller assembly brace the respective outer ends transversely against the respective frame. The subrollers are shaped or supported on the respective frame such that in an unloaded condition the gap is transversely narrower at the center bearing than at the outer bearing.
