  • Patent number: 8205662
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for the continuous casting of a metal strand (1), in which the cast strand (1) leaves a die (2) vertically or arcuately downwards and is subsequently guided in a strand guide (3), wherein the strand guide (3) has a number of pairs of rollers (4), which define between them an adjustable roller nip (5), and wherein, at the start of casting, to close the die (2) in the downward direction, a piece of strand (6) is introduced into the die (2) and is followed by the cast strand (1). In order to improve the adjustment of the roller nip, the invention provides that the piece of strand (6), which is produced with a defined or calibrated thickness (d), is inserted between the respective pairs of rollers to calibrate and/or measure the roller nip (5).

  • Patent number: 8197690
Abstract: A biological wastewater is mixed in an activated sludge tank with activated sludge that is concentrated in the activated sludge tank to a predetermined value. The mixture of wastewater and activated sludge running off in a drain of the activated sludge tank is then sieved to effect an incomplete solid/liquid separation that leaves a separated solid phase in the activated sludge tank. • Patent number: 8186025
Abstract: A brassiere back closure has an inelastic textile patch attached to the end of one of the brassiere wings and carries a plurality of transversely extending and longitudinally spaced rows each having at least two transversely spaced eyes on the back face. A flat body has an inner end attached to the end of the other of the wings, an opposite outer end, a front face at least partially overlapping at the outer end the back face of the patch, and a back face opposite the body front face. Respective plastic hooks generally complementary to and matable with the eyes are fixed to the body front face at the outer end so as to align with and interfit with the eyes. • Patent number: 8187258
Abstract: The above described apparatus and methods provide the possibility to reduce or even eliminate the effects of delay between image acquisition and laser ablation. Thus this will lead to less positioning errors and therefore to better ablation results in laser refractive surgery. The importance of this invention will increase with decreasing ablating beam diameter. The use of synchronization leads to shorter delay times. Hence it follows that the duration of the whole treatment decreases as well.

  • Patent number: 8182196
Abstract: The invention relates to a modular pouch transfer system, in which a gripper mount bar is rigidly mounted an drive arms, which are driven by driving means and mounted to them such that gripper means moves along a circular path. With the continued rotational cycle in one direction there is no reversal of direction reducing stress on the drive components and gears, providing smoother and more reliable operation. The motion at the transfer where the pouch is loaded into the bag clamp is near vertical allowing for the height of the pouch in the bag clamp to be easily adjusted for alteration of pouch height in the bag clamps during active machine operation. This reduces the need for other methods to adjust the pouch height by other means. The transfer gripper means opening and closing occurs during the rotational cycle.
