  • Patent number: 7596965
Abstract: A method and system for the fractionation and removal of nitrous oxide and other volatile halocarbon gas components from waste anesthetic gases using liquid oxygen are disclosed. Liquid oxygen is warmed for use in a healthcare facility by cooling and condensing waste anesthetic gases. A cold trap/fractionator is provided wherein selective components of the waste anesthetic gas are collected as a frost on the coils of the cold trap/fractionator by desublimation/deposition and/or condensation/solidification. In a periodic batch process, the collected frost is first thawed and the melted liquids or gases are then collected at various increasing temperatures, thereby separating the nitrous oxide and other halocarbon gas components by their varying melting points. The thawed anesthetic components are collected in separate tanks based on their melting points. Warmed by the waste anesthetic gases in the cold trap/fractionator, the oxygen is supplied to the healthcare facility for its normal uses.

  • Patent number: 7587517
Abstract: Packet routing via payload inspection at routers in a core of a distributed network for use in distributing content according to quality of service guarantees. Packets contain subjects and attributes in addition to routing information. The subjects correspond with particular types of content for subscriptions, and the attributes encapsulate the data or content. The subscriptions are associated with particular quality of service guarantees or levels of service. The routers store filters corresponding with subscriptions to content. Upon receiving a packet, a router inspects the payload section of the packet containing the attributes in order to retrieve the attributes and match them to the filters for the subscriptions. If the attributes satisfies a filter, the packet is routed to the next link in accordance with the quality of service guarantee associated with that filter. If the attributes do not satisfy any of the filters injected to and stored at the router, the router discards the packet.

  • Patent number: 7584145
Abstract: A system and method provide price validation for market makers in over the counter (OTC) markets. Specifically, the system compares a new or existing price provided by a market maker with a base rate. If the unilateral difference is less than or equal to a configurable tolerance, the price may be added to validated rates. The unilateral difference is an amount that the new bid source rate is greater than the bid base rate or an amount that the new offer source rate is less than the offer base rate. On the other hand, if the difference is more than the tolerance, the price may be ignored or removed by the system. As a result, the system provides protection against trading on invalid off-market rates or stale rates that is caused by system latency or other types of temporary anomalies.

  • Patent number: 7574432
Abstract: A Sort-on-the-Fly/Search-on-the-Fly search engine provides an intuitive means for searching databases, allowing a user to access data in the database without having to know anything about the database structure. A user selects a desired search term, and the search engine searches the database for all instances of the desired term, even if a specific file or table does not contain the instance. The database need not have a specific file (in a flat database) or a table (in a relational database) of names. The user may specify other criteria, or constraints to narrow the search results, or for other reasons. The search engine then conducts a further search using this criteria and produces a second search result. Further narrowing or broadening of the search are permitted, with the search-on-the-fly search engine returning results based on any new constraints.

  • Patent number: 7570201
Abstract: Phase compensation for the phase non-linearities introduced by the filters, amplifiers, and other microwave devices included in waveform generators in a radar system is achieved by first measuring the phase errors over a predetermined frequency range which are then fed to a pair of digital random access memories (RAMs), whereupon phase predistortion commands for both the local oscillator signal used to generate the RF transmit signal and the phase non-linearity in the RF transmit signal itself are called up and applied by first applying a predistortion phase shift to the local oscillator signal when it is being generated and secondly by applying a second predistortion phase shift when the RF transmit signal is being generated.

  • Patent number: 7562878
Abstract: A hydrodynamically lubricating geometry for the generally circular dynamic sealing lip of rotary seals that are employed to partition a lubricant from an environment. The dynamic sealing lip is provided for establishing compressed sealing engagement with a relatively rotatable surface, and for wedging a film of lubricating fluid into the interface between the dynamic sealing lip and the relatively rotatable surface in response to relative rotation that may occur in the clockwise or the counter-clockwise direction. A wave form incorporating an elongated dimple provides the gradual convergence, efficient impingement angle, and gradual interfacial contact pressure rise that are conducive to efficient hydrodynamic wedging. Skewed elevated contact pressure zones produced by compression edge effects provide for controlled lubricant movement within the dynamic sealing interface between the seal and the relatively rotatable surface, producing enhanced lubrication and low running torque.

  • Patent number: 7547586
Abstract: A method of making a semiconductor structure for use in a static induction transistor. Three layers of a SiC material are on a substrate with the top layer covered with a thick oxide. A mask having a plurality of strips is deposited on the top of the oxide to protect the area underneath it, and an etch removes the oxide, the third layer and a small amount of the second layer, leaving a plurality of pillars. An oxidation step grows an oxide skirt around the base of each pillar and consumes the edge portions of the third layer under the oxide to form a source. An ion implantation forms gate regions between the skirts. At the same time, a plurality of guard rings is formed. Removal of all oxide results in a semiconductor structure to which source, gate and drain connections may be made to form a static induction transistor. A greater separation between a source and gate is obtained by placing a spacer layer on the sidewalls of the pillars, either before or after formation of the skirt.

  • Patent number: 7547196
Abstract: Rod Float Mitigation (RFM) methods for rod-pumped oil wells having a variable frequency drive which controls the speed of the motor for the pump. Each method monitors rod loads or a similar condition and takes action only when rod load drops below a predefined minimum load. A first method reduces the speed of the motor to a preset level. A second method fixes the torque level on the pump downstroke by adjusting motor speed based on a calculated gearbox torque compared to a programmed fixed limit. Another method includes a program in the variable frequency drive which includes a preferred RFM Torque Curve for the pump to follow on its downstroke. When rod float occurs, the program monitors gearbox torque and adjusts the speed to follow the predetermined RFM Torque Curve thereby mitigating rod float with minimum decrease in production.

  • Patent number: 7545805
Abstract: Channels between routers for use in packet routing via payload inspection. The channels constitute logical connections between routers and include subjects and attributes. Publishers create channels for routing particular types of content as defined by the subjects and attributes. The publishers also create proxies and notifications on the channels. The channel definitions for routers identify packet or message structures so that the routers can locate attributes in the packets for content-based routing. The routers apply the packet attributes to filters encapsulating subscriptions in order to perform the content-based routing in the network core. The routers also locally cache content, providing distributed caching of content throughout the network core.
