  • Patent number: 8114859
Abstract: This invention discloses 2-methylene-(20S,25S)-19,27-dinor-(22E)-vitamin D analogs, and specifically 2-methylene-(20S,25S)-19,27-dinor-(22E)-1?,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3, and pharmaceutical uses therefor. This compound exhibits pronounced activity in arresting the proliferation of undifferentiated cells and inducing their differentiation to the monocyte thus evidencing use as an anti-cancer agent and for the treatment of skin diseases such as psoriasis as well as skin conditions such as wrinkles, slack skin, dry skin and insufficient sebum secretion. This compound also has little, if any, calcemic activity and therefore may be used to treat autoimmune disorders or inflammatory diseases in humans as well as renal osteodystrophy. This compound may also be used for the treatment or prevention of obesity.

  • Patent number: 8112150
Abstract: The system provides information to facilitate efficient optimization of programmer settings for cardiac pacemakers. It uses simultaneous measurement of a patient's electrocardiogram and peripheral blood pressure waveform in order to calculate, in real-time, a value correlated to the patient's pre-ejection time (PET) and, optionally, ejection duration (ED) for the patient's left ventricle. The peripheral blood pressure waveform is preferably monitored with a wrist mounted tonometer. Data including the electrocardiogram and peripheral blood pressure trace, as well as the surrogate pre-ejection time interval (SPET) for each heart beat and trending is displayed on a computer monitor, thereby allowing a physician or nurse to quickly optimize PET for the patient and adjusting programmer settings for an implanted pacemaker.

  • Patent number: 8104397
Abstract: A diaphragm for use in a gas meter that includes an expansion section having a series of convolutions. During repeated use of the diaphragm, the expansion section flexes to allow the center section of the diaphragm and the attached diaphragm disk to move between a retracted position and extended position. The convolutions formed in the expansion section include a series of curved peaks and curved troughs joined by web sections. The multiple convolutions in the expansion section allows for more consistent and repeatable movement and volume displacement of the diaphragm between the extended and retracted positions. The action of the convolutions also contributes to extended life by eliminating wrinkling of the diaphragm material.

  • Patent number: 8106617
Abstract: A power management protection circuit and method provides for a fast, real-time hardware logic control of the power control components of a motor, whereby the over-current condition is an integral of the over-current level and over-current time duration, and provides means for complete turn-off of motor voltage within a few microseconds when a specified energy level has been exceeded or an extended time for the user to take corrective actions if thermal conditions permit. Motor turn-off remains until a snubber diode current has reduced to a safe level even if the stall condition is no longer present. It allows the properties of load-dump current through the snubber diode to drive the protection control logic, and also provides for sensing the temperature of both the snubber diode and the power MOSFET switch. As temperature rises in these power devices, the trolling motor maximum voltage is reduced.

  • Patent number: 8104710
Abstract: An actuator arrangement comprises a first screw shaft, a first nut cooperating with the first screw shaft such that rotation of the first screw shaft causes the first nut to translate thereon, a second screw shaft, a second nut cooperating with the second screw shaft such that rotation of the second screw shaft causes the second nut to translate thereon, and first and second linkages connecting the first and second nuts, respectively, to an output member, rotation of the first and second screw shafts to cause translation of the first and second nuts towards one another causing extending movement of the output member and rotation of the first and second screw shafts to cause translation of the first and second nuts away from one another causing retracting movement of the output member.

  • Patent number: 8106012
Abstract: The present invention provides methods for predicting an effectiveness of apheresis therapy on patients with dilated cardiomyopathy, which include adding, for example, sera or such collected from patients to 18-day-old chicken fertile eggs and measuring the left ventricular ejection fraction of the eggs. High reproducibility was achieved by using urethane as an anesthetic agent for the chicken fertile eggs, maintaining the eggs in incubation sand at 40° C. during measurement, and using an ultrasonic probe with a frequency of 10 MHz or more. When the left ventricular ejection fraction is less than 90%, apheresis therapy is likely to be effective. Indeed, it has been clinically demonstrated that the apheresis therapy is successful when the left ventricular ejection fraction is improved to 90% or more by the therapy.

  • Patent number: 8100540
Abstract: A low cost, light projection and sensing system that projects an image onto a display surface using an array of light emitters. Further, the device has an integral sensing capability of the display surface using light sensors. Both the emitters and sensors are coupled to a control unit. Whereby, the device can modify the light-projected image and sensor view region with its control unit. The device can also project an animated overlaid image or large tiled image of photographic resolution. In operation, the device can determine the position and range of a remote object, along with illuminating its touch sensitive housing with a projected image.
