Abstract: A method of detecting a molecule associated with viability of one or more cells or organisms in a sample comprises the initial step of contacting the sample with an enzyme, which enzyme is capable of adding or removing a chemical moiety to or from a nucleic acid molecule in the presence of the molecule associated with viability of the of the one or more cells or organisms. This thereby generates a novel detectable nucleic acid molecule. The next step involves detecting the presence of the molecule associated with viability of the one or more cells or organisms by detecting the novel nucleic acid molecule generated only in the presence of the molecule associated with viability of the one or more cells or organisms. A most preferred molecule associated with viability is ATP, although NAD may also be detected. A preferred enzyme for use in the methods is ligase.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for displaying digital grey scale images at a desired tonal value on the screen of a display device. In the method, the operator pre-selects (300) manually, for example on the basis of an image visible on a display screen, a (mean) grey scale level of his/her desire, the values consistent therewith being stored (302) in a memory associated with a display device. When the operator picks up (304) a new image for examination, the memory is accessed to retrieve (306) therefrom the information regarding a target grey scale level and relevant to the present operator, said information being used for automatically calculating an individual transformation function relevant to the present new image and the image is automatically adjusted to an operator-specific target grey scale level (310).
Abstract: This invention discloses 2-methylene-20-methyl-19,24,25,26,27-pentanor-vitamin D analogs, and specifically 2-methylene-20-methyl-1?-hydroxy-19,24,25,26,27-pentanor-vitamin D3, and pharmaceutical uses therefore. This compound exhibits activity in arresting the proliferation of undifferentiated cells and inducing their differentiation to the monocyte thus evidencing use as an anti-cancer agent and for the treatment of skin diseases such as psoriasis as well as skin conditions such as wrinkles, slack skin, dry skin and insufficient sebum secretion. This compound also has little, if any, calcemic activity and therefore may be used to treat autoimmune disorders or inflammatory diseases in humans as well as renal osteodystrophy. This compound may also be used for the treatment or prevention of obesity.

Abstract: A method of detecting impact damage of a structure having a first surface exposed to potential impacts from an object comprises providing a sensor having a body portion that has a surface provided with an elongated channel. The sensor is fixed to a second surface of the structure such that a conduit is formed by the channel and the surface. The surface is on an opposite side of the structure to the first surface. A pressure differential is established between the conduit and a reference pressure adjacent the conduit. Monitoring is conducted for detecting any change in the differential pressure that may be indicative of a fracture or crack propagating in the second surface.
Abstract: Clutch pressure or servo motor torque profiling is applied to the powered capstan roll in a corrugator web splicer to control tension in the paper in the accelerating new paper roll to bring the new roll up to line speed more quickly and without causing web tear out.

Abstract: A marine propulsion drive-by-wire control system controls multiple marine engines, each one or more PCMs, propulsion control modules for controlling engine functions which may include steering or vessel vectoring. A helm has multiple ECUs, electronic control units, for controlling the multiple marine engines. A CAN, controller area network, bus connects the ECUs and PCMs with multiple PCM and ECU buses. The ECU buses are connected through respective isolation circuits isolating the respective ECU bus from spurious signals in another ECU bus.
Abstract: A solenoid valve has a valve body with an inlet, an outlet and a valve chamber therebetween. A valve member is selectively engagable with the valve chamber for controlling the flow of fluid from the inlet to the outlet. A solenoid assembly is mounted upon the valve member for moving the valve member to control the flow of fluid from the inlet to the outlet. The solenoid assembly includes a solenoid and a frame for holding the solenoid. The solenoid assembly is connected to the valve body such that the frame is rotatable and slidable away from the valve body to permit access to and slidable removal of the solenoid from the valve member.
Abstract: Monoclonal antibodies that specifically bind to ANGPTL3 are provided. Monoclonal antibodies that neutralize at least one activity of ANGPTL3 are provided. Methods of treating a disorder of lipid metabolism using neutralizing monoclonal antibodies are provided.
Abstract: A collapsible suspension bed comprising a bed bottom, a bed wall including at least one end wall and at least two side walls, at least one support structure for the bed, and at least one suspension means connected to the support structure for suspension of the bed. The distinctive characteristic of the bed is that the volume of the bed is adjustable for volume-adjustment of the bed.
Abstract: An inertial gas-liquid separator and method is provided, including variable orifice jet nozzle structure having a variable orifice area dependent upon axial movement of a plunger relative to a housing sleeve, and in another embodiment having first and second flow branches, with the first flow branch being continuously open, and the second flow branch having a variable flow controller controlling flow therethrough.

Abstract: Exercise equipment includes a stationary dock and a user support frame engaging the dock in docking relation, including application as a weight training rack and bench including a weight rack frame and a bench frame releasably lockable to the weight rack frame at a plurality of selectable locking locations therealong. A pair of collapsible spotter platforms are mounted to respective upstanding support posts.
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for measuring pressure drop through a filter in the flow path and then using the measured pressure drop, possibly at a normalized state and in conjunction with time and/or other data from the system, to estimate characteristics of the fluid, the filter, and/or a working component supplied with the filtered fluid. Such characteristics could include an operating condition of the filter, the remaining useful life of the filter, the relative contaminant concentration in the fluid, and/or the remaining useful life of a working component supplied with the filtered fluid.

Abstract: A file divider is provided for dividing a series of file folders having hanging rods with opposed ends slidably supported for movement on a file support edge of a file organizer. The file divider includes a body having opposed ends slidably supported for movement on the file support edge between a pair of file folders. The opposed ends have fingers projecting therefrom that are engageable with certain of the hanging rods of the file folders to maintain the stability of the divider bar when the file folders and the file divider bar are slidably moved on the file support edge.
Abstract: A worksurface storage system includes a frame, a tray, an actuator, and a cover. The tray and actuator are connected to the frame such that operation of the actuator translates the actuator and the tray relative to the frame. The cover is pivotably connected to the frame such that translation of the tray rotates the cover between an open and a closed position relative to the worksurface. The storage system is constructed to engage the worksurface such that devices supported by the tray are selectively extended and retracted relative to the worksurface. An opening formed in the worksurface accommodates passage of the devices and the cover, which is rotationally connected to the frame and which covers the opening formed in the worksurface when the devices are not in use. The storage system provides for multi-functional use of the worksurface.
