  • Patent number: 4999020
Abstract: A variable displacement piston pump includes a plurality of axially aligned pumping cylinders with a drive shaft extending therebetween having a pivotable swash plate disposed in a relatively dry cavity at one end of the drive shaft for operating the pumping cylinders, and a reaction thrust plate on the other end of the drive shaft for providing a reaction force on the drive shaft opposite that provided by the swash plate. An inlet shaft seal prevents fluid, which enters the pump at the inlet port, from filling the mounting housing and submerging the mount shaft portion of a rotating assembly supporting the swash plate. Two needle roller bearings support the swash plate and transmit torque from the drive coupling to the swash plate. A high pressure fluid restrictor meters hydraulic control fluid to the two needle bearings.

  • Patent number: 4997123
Abstract: A flexural pivot is configured as a multi-piece device which is specifically configured to tolerate vibration and shock loading. The flex pivot described uses pre-formed unitary (one-piece) support structures which have integral undercut areas, diametrically opposed slots for flexural member placement and key ways and the like, and near net shape geometry. The flexural members are pre-brazed to facilitate the assembly process. The design of the pre-formed support structures eliminates brazed joints which are common locations of fracture due to vibration and shock loading, resulting in a significantly strengthened pivot. The overall configuration and method described provides an economical flex pivot, whereby the flex pivots are accessible for applications which have not heretofore been feasible.

  • Patent number: 4994064
Abstract: An instrument for implanting an acetabular cup prosthesis in a patient's acetabulum. The cup is gripped on the base of the instrument and is aligned and inserted in accordance with a plane normal to the plane in which a patient is positioned and normal to a line between the right and left anterior/superior iliac spines. With the acetabular cup so aligned, the cup is impacted to be retained in a prepared acetabulum. The instrument is actuated for gripping the cup for the aforenoted alignment, insertion and impaction and is thereafter actuated for releasing the cup so that the instrument can be removed from the cup without disturbing the position thereof.

  • Patent number: 4962495
Abstract: Apparatus and method for transmitting condition data from a rotating member to a stationary device is disclosed wherein digitized data obtained from a plurality of sensors is transmitted from the rotating member to the stationary device through a system of light emitting diodes on the rotating member which flash light signals in a preselected digital sequence. The data so obtained is received by a system of stationary receivers, and thereafter decoded and processed for utilization. Electric power for the rotating components is obtained by using the kinetic energy of the rotating member.

  • Patent number: 4961247
Abstract: A balancing arrangement for double hung windows is disclosed including a spring arrangement supported by a spring holder installed in a window jamb and a balance shoe installed in a window sash. The spring holder is adapted to engage a detent in the balance shoe installed in the top window sash, whereby displacement of the top sash when closed is prevented to maintain a weather stripping seal between the bottom and top sashes at the horizontal center of the window when the bottom sash is lowered for closing against the compression force of the seal. The opening of the top sash is unaffected, other than a slightly greater force being required to bypass the engagement of the detent by the spring holder.

Abstract: A balancing arrangement for double hung windows is disclosed including a spring arrangement supported by a spring holder installed in a window jamb and a balance shoe installed in a window sash. A leaf spring is supported to engage a detent in the balance shoe installed in the top window sash, whereby displacement of the top sash when closed is prevented to maintain the seal between the bottom and top sashes at the horizontal center of the window when the bottom sash is lowered for closing against the compression force of a weather stripping seal at the horizontal center. The opening of the top sash is unaffected, other than a slightly greater force being required to bypass the leaf spring and detent arrangement.

  • Patent number: 4907140
Abstract: A collapsible lantern is disclosed which is formed from a blank which is stamped or otherwise provided from a suitable paperboard material. The lantern blank has four panels which are folded and two of the panels are secured together to form a four sided member. The member carries flaps which are engageable to provide a closed bottom and an open gable top for the lantern, and whereby the lantern is substantially rectangular in cross-section. The arrangement is such that a candle or like light source is disposed within the lantern and at the closed bottom thereof. Holes are provided on the lantern sides and light from the candle is emitted through the holes and through the open gable top to provide the desired result. The flaps are disengageable whereby the lantern is collapsible to a flat form for easy shipment and storage, as the case may be.

  • Patent number: 4903873
Abstract: An infant carrier includes a harness and a pouch removably secured to the harness. The harness and the pouch are of materials suitable for use in an aqueous environment. The removability of the pouch renders the invention adaptable for interchanging pouches in accordance with the size of the infant to be carried as is desirable, and for replacing harnesses and/or pouches for other reasons as the need may arise from time to time.

  • Patent number: 4899848
Abstract: A guard for the upper end of a ladder side rail telescopes over said upper end to prevent the surface against which the ladder rests from being marred. The guard includes a rigid body and a resilient pad removably affixed to the body. The resilient pad engages the surface for preventing said marring. The resilient pad is replaceable as it loses its resiliency or otherwise wears out so that the entire guard does not have to be replaced, whereby the effectivity, usefulness and cost effectiveness of the guard is enhanced.

  • Patent number: 4837654
Abstract: Control apparatus for three phase alternating current load protection wherein each of the phases of the load is connected to a corresponding current transformer. When the load is energized by a three phase power supply the transformers induce signals which are applied to a signal detection circuit. The detection circuit controls a relay means. If any of the three power phases is lost the detection circuit is interrupted causing the relay means to drop out, whereby the load, the power supply and auxilliary circuitry, as the case may be, are protected.
