  • Patent number: 5336899
Abstract: A near infrared illuminator for enhancing viewing of a target viewed with infrared viewing device when the target falls within a predetermined range. A pulse generator generates a laser pulse in the near infrared with a pulse clock for control of laser brightness and a pulse frequency adjust for control of laser blink rate. The pulse is transmitted along an optical path at a specific brightness and blink rate to a target. A detector within the optical path detects a reflected infrared signal from the target and converts the signal to an electrical signal which is processed by a processor to obtain target range information. A trigger logic controls the pulse clock rate means whereby when the target range falls within a predetermined range the laser pulse rate is increased such that increased illumination of the target is viewable with an infrared viewing device.

  • Patent number: 5328130
Abstract: A cylindrical device connected to the nose of a projectile for imparting n to the projectile fired from a non-rifled bore of a cannon. The device has at least two coaxial, adjacent, and integrally connected cylindrical segments of different diameter. The segment having the larger diameter is positioned most rearwardly of the projectile, relative to the nose of the projectile, and the periphery of this segment has circumferentially spaced angled slots for catching air moving past the projectile to spin the projectile. The segment with the smaller diameter attaches the cylindrical device to the aft end of the nose of the projectile and directs the flow of air to and through the angled slots of the segment having the larger diameter.

  • Patent number: 5320691
Abstract: A method of producing an energetic composition comprising the steps of (a) issolving an alkali metal hydroxide in aqueous denatured alcohol to form an alcohol and alkali metal hydroxide solution; (b) kneading phenolphthalein or other reaction product of a phenolic compound and phthalic anhydride with sulfur, potassium nitrate and said alkali metal hydroxide solution formed in step (a); (c) allowing the kneaded product formed in step (b) to dry through evaporation of the aqueous denatured alcohol; (d) granulating the dried product formed in step (c); and (e) further drying the granulated product formed in step (d). An alternate method is also disclosed in which an alkali metal salt of phenolphthalein is used so as to avoid use of the alkali metal hydroxide in the aqueous denatured alcohol. • Patent number: H1344
Abstract: A method is provided for the integration of a low-volume liquid flow and ing system and a portable optical waveguide-based fluorescence detector for the chemical analysis of reagents in fluorescence-based reactions. The method is particularly applicable to the detection of enzyme inhibitors, modifiers, or ligands in cases where a fluorescent enzyme substrate or product exists. In a preferred embodiment, the presence and concentration of acetylcholinesterase inhibitors, such as chemical warfare nerve agents or certain insecticides, is determined by mixing aqueous samples with a dilute solution of n-methyl indoxyl acetate, and monitoring the formation of a fluorescent product (n-methyl indoxyl). The presence of an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor reduces the amount of fluorescent product formed in a given time period.

  • Patent number: H1355
Abstract: A voice channel remote control system for operating remote smoke generators or battlefield operations. The system includes a transmission end for sending a voice channel signal and a receiving end for receiving and acting on the signal. A tone generator for sending a tone signal of a least one tone digit from the transmission end is included. Also included is a microphone at the receiving end for receiving the tone signal. A tone decoder is operably connected to the microphone pickup, with the decoder being adapted to validate and decode the tone signal to provide a binary coded decimal output for receiving the tone signal to thereby provide a coded decimal output. This output is connected to a decoder/driver which transforms the decimal output to provide a driving signal. Finally, a relay receives the driving signal and transmits an activation signal to thereby activate the remote smoke generator device.

  • Patent number: H1361
Abstract: Form-fitting, comfortable, soft-shell protective apparel, commonly called a as mask, for protecting the head, upper body and respiratory tract from chemical/biological agents and toxins and radioactive particles. A unitary, easy-to-put-on, heat and moisture-dissipating multi-layer construction enables prolonged use and internalizes an adjustable suspension system as well as the purified breathing-air path. The latter is structured to enable the self-contained purifying agent to be located away from the face for facilitating weapons compatibility and reducing fatigue. Goggle-like eye lensing is designed to minimize eye relief and maximize peripheral vision and look-down capability, while providing optical correction and laser-light protection. The mask design minimizes dead space leading to distortion and other communications problems, and enables purifying-agent changes in a "hot" environment.
