Patent number: 6214189Abstract: A method and an apparatus for electrokinetically decontaminating the soil contained in a radioactive waste drum are disclosed. The radioactively contaminated soil is put into drums, and the drums are carried to a temporary storage or to a disposal site. If the extremely low level radioactive soil is decontaminated rather than carrying the soil to the temporary storage or to a disposal site, and if the decontaminated soil is returned to the nature, then the limited storage capacity can be saved. Further, if a high level radioactive soil is treated to a low level one, and if thus a low level radioactive soil is stored in a storage, then the safety is improved. In the present invention, electrodes are buried into the contaminated soil contained in a radioactive waste drum, and a dc current is supplied, so that the radioactive nuclide and impurities can be removed by the electroosmosis and the electromigration.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 1999Date of Patent: April 10, 2001Assignees: Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute, Korea Electric Power CorporationInventors: Hui-Jun Won, Byung-Gil Ahn, Gye-Nam Kim, Hoy-Sam Kwon, Chul-Yong Lee, Chong-Hun Jung, Byung-Jik Lee, Won-Zin Oh

Patent number: 6179257Abstract: Between the base plate the instrument are placed a bridge frame with a supporting point formed on its upper surface to support the instrument and a load-bearing section made with elastically deformable spring material having arc-shaped legs extending from the bridge frame toward the direction opposite to the instrument, while keeping a certain separation in between. Thereby, a weight supporting part that contacts with the bottom end surface of the instrument over a comparatively narrow area in a plane touch, or more preferably, in a point touch or in a line touch, and an absorbing part that absorbs vibrations transmitted from the instrument are made to coexist. Making the legs of the load-bearing section operate as an absorbing part to absorb vibrations not only in the horizontal direction but also in the vertical direction enhances the function of the supporting element to modulate vibrations to an even greater extent.Type: GrantFiled: October 14, 1998Date of Patent: January 30, 2001Inventor: Yasunaga Ueno

Patent number: 6168772Abstract: We have recently proposed special catalysts, Pt-supported zeolites, for the selective oxidation of carbon monoxide in reformed fuels from methanol or natural gas. They can be applied to polymer electrolyte fuel cells, of which Pt anode catalysts suffer serious poisoning by the trace amount of CO. In order to enhance the performance of the catalysts, the selective CO oxidation was examined over Pt—, Ru—, Pd—, Co—, and PtRu— supported zeolites in a large excess of H2 with the addition of a low concentration of oxygen. It was found that Pt, Ru, and PtRu supported on mordenite can oxidize CO much more selectively than a conventional Pt-supported alumina catalyst. Ru/mordenite showed the highest selectivity of approximately 100% at 200° C. with a certain flow rate of the reactant. Pt-Ru/mordenite exhibited fairly high selectivity of 90% over a wide flow rate condition even at 150° C.Type: GrantFiled: March 20, 1995Date of Patent: January 2, 2001Inventor: Masahiro Watanabe

Patent number: 6150897Abstract: A Marchand balun cirucit having a pair of coupled lines of quarter wavelength for dividing and/or combining signals with the same amplitude and opposite phase with each other is improved by inserting a cancellation element between said pair of coupled lines. Said cancellation element may be a transmission line, a capacitor, or an inductor which improves amplitude difference error and phase difference error of a pair of outputs by controlling phase velocity for an even mode so that phase velocity for an even mode becomes equal to that for an odd mode. Thus, a balun circuit with wide operation band, and less error of amplitude difference and phase difference is obtained.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 1998Date of Patent: November 21, 2000Assignee: Nippon Telegraph and Telephone CorporationInventors: Kenjiro Nishikawa, Ichihiko Toyoda, Tsuneo Tokumitsu
