  • Patent number: 6735930
Abstract: A grass collection container for a lawnmower is provided to reduce the amount of blockage in an air-permeable region of the container. Materials, such as residual grass, that adhere to the container, cause the blockage. The grass collection container is made from cloth, sewn in the form of a bag, to collect grass that has been cut by a rotating cutting blade of the lawnmower and carried to the container by a flow of air. At least one section of the grass collection container is the air-permeable region that allows the flow of air to pass therethrough but does not allow the grass to pass therethrough. The air-permeable region carries thereon a photocatalyst that sterilizes and decomposes grass and organic materials. Therefore, the container is able to reduce the amount of blockage and suppress decay therein, thereby lowering the level of unpleasant odors.

  • Patent number: 6736099
Abstract: A hydraulic engine-starting system for cranking and starting an engine for a vehicle having automatically stopping and starting functions by a hydraulic motor. A hydraulic pressure that operates a hydraulic clutch of a transmission is raised promptly by using a hydraulic motor. The hydraulic motor is driven by a hydraulic pressure supplied thereto through a first oil passage from a hydraulic motor-driving device including an oil pump, an accumulator and a solenoid valve, thereby starting the engine. A transmission is disposed in the middle of a second oil passage for returning an oil discharged from the hydraulic motor to the hydraulic motor-driving device. Thus, the hydraulic pressure in the transmission can be raised simultaneously with the start of the engine to enable the engagement of a hydraulic clutch, thereby starting the vehicle promptly, while avoiding generating a shock from the engagement of the hydraulic clutch.

  • Patent number: 6735230
Abstract: On the surface of a conductive substrate (1) of GaAs, Ge, Si, etc., a semiconductor lamination section including a light emitting layer forming portion (11) that has at least an n-type layer (4) and a p-type layer (6) made from a compound semiconductor of a Group III element and nitrogen and that is laminated so as to form a light emitting layer is formed through a buffer layer (2) suitable for the substrate. As a result, a semiconductor light emitting device using a Group III nitride compound semiconductor, which is of a vertical type that allows electrodes to be taken out from both of the upper and lower surfaces of a chip, has superior crystalline properties with high light emitting efficiency, and exhibits cleavage, is obtained. Therefore, it is possible to easily mount a LD chip on a sub-mount having a good thermal conductivity, and consequently to prevent a reduction and degradation in the light emitting efficiency (differential quantum efficiency) due to heat.

  • Patent number: 6732568
Abstract: A sensor probe and method of use for determining the temperature, velocity, and/or liquid volumetric fraction of gas laden with droplets. In one variation, the probe includes a single heating element used in a well-characterized flow. The heating element is maintained above the Leidenfrost transition for the droplets, which prevents cooling effects from the droplets from impacting the temperature measurement. In another variation, the probe includes two or more heating elements arranged in similar flow environments. The property of interest is derived by relying on thermodynamic and heat transfer principles, which are not usable in conjunction with conventional devices.

  • Patent number: 6735161
Abstract: A recording-medium transfer device having a anti-rattle construction is provided. A transfer roller 6 of the recording-medium transfer device is arranged above a chassis 5 to be perpendicular to a direction X of transferring recording medium. The transfer roller 6 has a structure in which a shaft is inserted in rolling member made of a material having flexibility. Projecting portions 13 and 14 are formed on the chassis 5 to oppose to both ends of the rolling member. In both ends of the rolling member, clearances are respectively formed to permit the deformation produced by its abutment with the projecting portions 13 and 14. In the process for inserting the disc, the projecting portions 13 and 14 are moved away from the transfer roller 6. Upon receiving a driving force from a driving motor 7 and gears 8 to 11, the rolling member of the transfer roller 6 is rotated keeping in contact with the disc so as to transfer the disc toward a clamping position.

  • Patent number: 6731199
Abstract: In a non-contact communication system, when an interrogator is attempting to detect that a responder is present in a range communicable therewith, the interrogator transmits a weak radio wave from its tuning circuit. The responder receives this radio wave and acquires electric power by rectifying it, but, because the electric power thus obtained is insufficient, the responder is turned on and off repeatedly at regular intervals. This causes variation in the impedance with which the tuning circuit is loaded. The interrogator, by detecting this variation in the impedance occurring at regular intervals, recognizes that the responder is present within the range communicable therewith. Only then, the interrogator transmits a radio wave strong enough to permit the responder to acquire sufficient electric power.

  • Patent number: 6729757
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of and a device for detecting the flatness of a metal band product at high temperature, using a measuring roll (1) having a cylindrical external face (13) comprising an angular contact sector with the band and a free sector. According to the invention, the roll (1) is cooled down forcibly by circulating a heat exchanging fluid along at least one portion of the free sector of the external face (13) of the roll (1) and one determines the parameters responsible for the cooling efficiency such as the opening angle (B) of cooling sector, the temperature and the circulation flow rate of the heat exchanging fluid, so that the external face (13) of the roll (1) is brought back, at each revolution, to a pre-set equilibrium temperature. The invention applies especially to the hot rolling of ferrous and non-ferrous metals.

  • Patent number: 6731025
Abstract: A motor that is capable of both linear and rotational motion. One coil translates the motor along its axis for linear motion and a second coil causes the shaft to rotate. Coacting with the translate coil is a translate magnet where the north and south poles are oriented along the motor shaft. A segmented magnet where alternating north and south poles are located along the periphery of the magnet interacts with a rotation coil so that the interaction of the magnetic field of the segmented magnet and the magnetic field produced by the rotation coil cause the rotary magnet to rotate. Rotation of the rotary magnet, which cooperates with the shaft to which it is operably connected, causes rotation of the motor shaft.
