Abstract: A shoring post comprises a support post slidingly engaging a telescoping sleeve member and a screw device for incrementally adjusting the length of the shoring post. The telescoping member having a plurality of pairs of diametrically opposed holes spaced therealong. A pin member for inserting through a pair of the diametrically opposed holes of the telescoping member to releasably extend the shoring post. A quick release washer for quickly reducing an overall length of the shoring post. The washer comprising a ring portion having a pair of diametrically opposed cam lobes. The lobes having an inclined surface, a cradling surface and a stop. The washer is mounted between the pin and the support post. The washer has a load transfer position wherein the pin is cradled between the cradling surface and the stop surface and a quick release position whereby as the washer is rotated relative to the pin, the pin travels along the inclined surface reducing the overall length of the shoring post.

  • Patent number: 5295665
Abstract: A method and apparatus for treating mineral-bearing ores and, more particularly, for treating particulate ores containing precious metals, base metals and the like for separating and recovering said values by classifying the particulate ore on a bed of particulate material, preferably coarse particulate material, and by continuously chemically leaching the said values from the ore. In accordance with an embodiment of the invention, particulated ore is fluidized and intermittently moved through a tank to classify the ore particles into strata according to size, shape and density to beneficiate values, either heavier or lighter than the gangue, for recovery of concentrated values.

  • Patent number: 5290683
Abstract: An assay for directly and rapidly determining the alcohol concentration of a lower alcohol in a biological fluid without dilution, comprises a solid carrier. The carrier is impregnated with a solution having the following constituents mixed in effective amounts: a cross-linked stabilized enzyme for oxidizing the alcohol in the presence of a reducible compound to produce a corresponding aldehyde and a reduction product, a chromogen which reacts with the reduction product in the presence of an agent to produce a colored compound indicative of alcohol presence in the biological fluid, a competitive inhibitor of the enzyme, an agent for converting the chromogen to the colored compound, and a buffer to maintain the solution at a predetermined acidic pH.

  • Patent number: 5286161
Abstract: A method of producing a silage removal channel. The method comprises the steps of disposing an inflatable tube within an empty silo, inflating the tube, filling the silo with feedstuff, deflating the tube and then withdrawing the same from the interior of the silo to create the silage removal channel within the feedstuff. The created channel is disposed from the uppermost surface of the feedstuff to a discharge port disposed in the exterior wall of the silo. When required feedstuff is introduced into the mouth of the channel, it gravitates through the channel to the discharge port where it may be removed from the silo.

  • Patent number: 5282579
Abstract: An extensible spacer device for setting a gap between an impeller and a screen of a size reduction machine comprises a first collar having an axially extending bore, an internal thread on an inside surface of the bore and a circumferential shroud extending axially, a second collar having a base portion, a barrel portion and an axially bore extending therethrough. The barrel portion has an external thread adapted to threadingly engage the internal thread. The shroud is adapted to cover the barrel portion and frictionally engage the base portion when the first collar threadingly engages the second collar. A calibrated scale is on the base portion and a plurality of gradations circumferentially extends about the shroud to indicate an axial length of the spacer device as the first collar is rotated relative to the second collar.

  • Patent number: 5277665
Abstract: A power regulating apparatus for controlling power to a cyclic load in which a pivotally-mounted constant speed motor has a fixed diameter pulley on the motor output shaft operatively connected to a variable speed pulley mounted on a driven shaft whereby motor reactive torque due to an increase in load on the motor causes the motor and its fixed diameter pulley to approach the variable speed pulley allowing the effective diameter of the variable speed pulley to increase for reducing the rate of rotation of the variable speed pulley and increasing the torque of the driven shaft.
