Abstract: Brine from a conventional treatment process is pre-filtered prior to the electrolysis of same by a method which includes the steps of: (a) heating the brine, (b) adding sodium carbonate thereto, (c) stirring the solution, (d) allowing the solution to settle, and (e) passing the solution through an absolute membrane filter. The filter "polishes" the brine feed by removing the high hardness ions.

Abstract: A knife operating device for sewing machines includes a needle stub pivotally mounted to the front part of a rocking arm. The rocking arm intersects with a needle stub guiding bar and is pivotally mounted and its rear end. A knife holder is, also, connected to the rocking arm and is guided so as to be movable with the needle stub.
Abstract: A relaxation oscillator comprising three cascaded operational voltage comparators is described. The on-time of the inventive circuit is established in accordance with a variable input element to the first operational comparator. The off-time is established by an RC network in the input circuit of the second operational comparator. The first and second operational comparators are interconnected so that the turning on or off of the second operational comparator affects the first operational comparator to cause it to also turn on or off.
Abstract: An appliance for facilitating hair piece attachment includes a snap member. The snap member has a suture attached thereto and which is surgically inserted into the user's scalp to secure the snap thereonto. A surgical needle is, optionally, secured to the suture.
Abstract: A device for mounting an antenna or the like has a base plate, a top plate detachably connectable to the base plate and a swiveling or rotatable antenna-receiving member. The member is securely retained between the base plate and top plate. The present device is particularly efficacious in mounting a citizen's band radio antenna to the trunk lid of an automobile.
Abstract: Rigid cellular foams characterized by carbodiimide linkages exhibit low friability and excellent flame retardancy when prepared from isocyanates rich in toluene diisocyanate. The forms hereof are prepared by the catalytic condensation of the isocyanates by using either (1) isocyanate quasi-prepolymers or (2) a two-stage process wherein isocyanate and polyol are first reacted to form a urethane-containing intermediate having free isocyanate groups and then the remaining isocyanate groups are converted to carbodiimide groups and isocyanurate groups by the catalytic condensation thereof.
Abstract: Rigid cellular foams characterized by carbodiimide linkages are prepared by the catalytic condensation of an organic polyisocyanate in the presence of a halogen or phosphorus-containing active hydrogen compound to provide urethane modified foams having a skin of improved flame retardancy.

Abstract: The diaphragm of a chlor-alkali cell has its useful life prolonged by the unplugging thereof. Unplugging is achieved by shifting the pH gradient in the diaphragm toward the catholyte side. Simultaneously with the shifting of the pH gradient, chelates are formed in the anolyte solution from .alpha.-hydroxyketones and .alpha.-hydroxyaldehydes.
Abstract: New triazine compositions having incorporated therewithin both alkanolamino groups and pendent tertiary amino groups are defined herein. The triazines are prepared by the reaction of (1) an intermediate prepared from either alkyl halides or alkylene oxides and dialkylaminoalkyl primary amines and (2) cyanuric chloride or a derivative thereof. The triazines hereof exhibit excellent catalystic activity in the preparation of rigid cellular foams characterized by carbodiimide linkages.
Abstract: An end connector for a filter press cell disassociates the mechanical sealing function from the primary electrical connection. The connector includes a boss extension having an aperture formed therein for tightening the connector between the boss and boss extension. The present invention is adaptable for use as an end connector for either the anode or the cathode.

Abstract: Apparatus for producing a plurality of filter press diaphragms at any one time is disclosed herein. In one form of the invention the apparatus includes a sealed housing containing a plurality of sealed modules fed from a common header, to produce the diaphragms batch-wise. In another form of the invention, an indexing table is employed to produce the diaphragms continuously.

Abstract: Acid-modified toluene diisocyanate is used to prepare rigid cellular foams characterized by carbodiimide linkages either by a one-shot process or a quasi-prepolymer process. The use of acid-modified toluene diisocyanate exhibits a more controllable reactivity with a one-shot foaming process and more stable quasi-prepolymers when using such systems.
Abstract: The central web of a bipolar electrolytic filter press cell has a plurality of nubs projecting therefrom to support the electrode and to maintain their flatness.
Abstract: Segmented electrodes for use in electrolytic filter press cells obviate and reduce the problems of current distributions attributable to poor bipolar electrical connections, and electrode flatness. The electrodes are supported on the electrical boss as well as on the central barrier.
