Abstract: An elongated structural element having an outer tubular casing with the hollow interior space filled with a plastic binder containing a plurality of elongated parallel strands of fiber reinforcement material extending lengthwise of the element; and a method for preparing such an element by filling a preformed tubular casing with a plastic binder in liquid form dispersed in which are parallel strands of reinforcing fibrous material, and allowing the plastic binder to solidify.

Abstract: A rigid assemblage of a plurality of elongated parallel building construction components adapted to function as an ocean cargo unit, the assemblage including four parallel vertical load bearing beams having at each end of each beam a fitting with a plurality of lifting eyes with all of the fittings and the beams forming three pairs of parallel planes which enclose a right prismatic space wherein all of the elongated members, are held rigidly in parallel arrangement when the assemblage is suspended by a lifting force, applied simultaneously to all beams.

Abstract: An apparatus for optically detecting data on paper or reusable plastic sheets, delivering the data directly to a computer including reflective photoelectric sensors to detect marks on the sheets. The software employed may use a multitude of methods to extract information from the data. The parallel I/O interface card between the apparatus and a computer permits data sampling of many sensors simultaneously. Many different thicknesses and reflectiveness of sheets may be used, thus permitting use of inexpensive photo copied forms. The apparatus is simplified by taking advantage of circuitry and the power source in the computer. The apparatus may be used to grade papers, tabulate votes, collect survey information, match people best suited for a job, date matching, or any other purpose in which data from marks on sheets can be used by a general or special purpose computer.

Abstract: The interrupter includes and apparatus having a pair of oppositely rotatable, spring loaded, sharp edged elements positioned above a pair of wire fuses. Such fuses complete the current path in respective conductors of a two conductor electrical appliance power system. Each edged element is retained by a latching tension of the other fuse, so that opening of either of the two fuses releases the element above the other fuse, causing such element to rotationally descend and apply a cutting force to the other fuse and thus assist in its opening to assure that both conductors of the power system are opened in an immediately successive manner in response to a current overload.

Abstract: Improved system for controlling the forming and dewatering of a web of paper by submerged drainage in which air does not penetrate the fiber/aqueous dispersion and the formed web. The dewatering is via altering the natural tension of the meniscus of the water to induce enhanced drainage of water from the aqueous dispersion of paper making fibers in the wetter end of the system and from the drier end of the fabric. Also, the improved horizontal system provides substantially equivalent side surfaces to the paper formed in such system.

Abstract: Improved apparatus for controlling the dewatering of a web (44, 44') in a Fourdrinier fabric (20, 21) by submerged drainage apparatus in which air does not penetrate through the fiber/aqueous dispersion nor the formed web (44, 44'). The dewatering is accomplished by altering the natural tension of the meniscus of the water to induce enhanced drainage of water from the aqueous dispersion of paper making fibers in the fabric (20, 21) and replacement air for the water draining from the formed web (44, 44') is provided from beneath the lower fabric (20) and, if an upper fabric (21) is employed, from above the upper fabric (21).

Abstract: A sheet material sling is supported on a horseshoe-shaped device mounted on three casters which forms a vehicle to support a knee of a user. Two such supports are used, unconnected to each other by users who must kneel in their work and must scoot along a support surface. Provisions are made for the supports to be interconnected by a flexible connector or by a rigid table like sheet.

Abstract: An assembly of an inner conical adapter nose and an outer tooth having a coaxial conical inner recess, the tooth having spaced helical ears which mesh with spaced helical grooves in the base of the adapter, and at least one key adapted to be inserted into a keyway passing through the adapter base and one tooth ear in a direction generally perpendicular to the coaxis and tangential to the recess. The recess is conical with a mating conical adapter head and the tooth ears are arranged in a square and mate with grooves on the adapter base arranged in a square, and the lands between the grooves of the base substantially fill the spaces between the tooth ears.

Abstract: Handgun holster attached to a vertical support rod parallel to and spaced apart from the holster. There also is attached to the rod an arcuate strap as an upper body rest and a pad as a lower thigh rest, each rest being adjustable and clampable to selected positions for the convenience of the wearer. Preferably, this holster is for use in sports competition, where it is important to be able to draw quickly and fire.

Abstract: The combination of a fishing hook, a weight, and an artificial bait which in use appears to have a moving mouth. The weight has a tapering head with a wire loop eye for attachment to the hook. The flexible artificial bait with an openable mouth is operable by tugging on the fishing line that passes through the head of the bait and is connected to the hook. The hook preferably has its eye and its point embedded in the bait.

Abstract: A hand tool adapted to guide a rubber hose being wound on a reel, the tool being T-shaped with the cross bar as a handle and the stem having at its distal end a helix designed to be easily connected to the hose such that the hose runs lengthwise along the axis of the helix.

Abstract: A system for draining and filling oil reservoirs in the crankcases and the generators of marine vessels with at least one or two diesel engines, including a motor driven pump, conduits connecting the pump to the reservoirs of the generator and of each engine and with the fuel tanks, an oil sump of fresh oil, and selector valves to connect the conduits to the pump in a variety of combinations; one of which extracts used oil from the reservoirs and forces same through a filter/blender while receiving diesel fuel from a tank on board the vessel and returns the mixed used oil and fuel to the tank for subsequent combustion by the engine; a second of which provides fresh oil to the reservoirs; and a third of which provides diesel fuel to the tanks.

Abstract: A sensing conductor (62) within an appliance housing (56) and a detection circuit (59, 60, 61, 63) preferably within the housing, cause a low resistance shorting of an appliance circuit (57, 58) in response to immersion in water, and an interrupter device (4, 5, 6, 27), preferably located in the plug (65) of the cord set, reacts to the resulting overcurrent by opening two fuses, one in each side of the line (2, 16; 3, 17). An overcurrent opens one fast acting fuse link (27) in the normally ungrounded side of the line (3, 17) and such fuse link (5) in the normally grounded neutral side of the line (2, 16). The fuse link (27) is directly assisted in opening by a spring element (4) so as to have a slight precedence in opening, over fuse link (5) which is indirectly assisted in opening by spring (4), through an insulating coupling block (6), to achieve an initially sequential but substantially overlapping and simultaneous opening, thus disconnecting both sides of the line.

Abstract: A unitary aluminum watercraft is constructed from a single sheet of deep-formable aluminum by forcing a mold into the sheet to imprint the mold into the sheet and then forcing the perimeter portions around the mold. Excess sheet material is removed and than placed into a replica mold. A deck is installed and bonded to the interior bottom surface of the body by a structural flotation foam, such as urethane, to form a unitized structural beam which eliminates the need for a keel and the accompanying structural ribs and below-waterline rivets usually required.

Abstract: An apparatus for dispensing one golf ball at a time onto a tee, the apparatus comprising a tubular magazine through which golf balls roll by gravity from an entrance to an exit, a pivotable tubular arm hingedly attached at the exit of the magazine and extending to a dispensing mouth, the arm being biased to hold its mouth at an elevation higher than the magazine exit until manually pivoted downwardly to a dispensing position where the mouth is at a lower elevation than the magazine exit, an adjustable stop screw to prevent balls from rolling out of the exit until the arm is pivoted, means to move one golf ball at a time from contact with the stop screw and allow the ball to roll through the pivotable arm to be dispensed through the mouth onto a tee.

Abstract: A process for making artificial porcelain teeth or laboratory fabricated dental crowns includes casting or molding a plurality of tooth-shaped unfired shells from ceramic powder and a resin, acrylic, wax or starch in liquid form and molded and hardened into shapes of predetermined tooth contours. These dried powder like, thin and highly characterized outside shells of a general tooth shape are then merged into a full porcelain powder buildup of the tooth shape by using conventional porcelain powders mixed into a paste, conventionally, as a filling medium completing the buildup of tooth or crown form. This form is then placed into a furnace and heated to purge undesired resin, acrylic, wax or starch and other extraneous material, and then it is baked conventionally to further purge same and obtain an artificial tooth or crown in the most desirable form possible for the technician who then finalizes the contour by grinding and polishing or glazing same conventionally.

Abstract: In a Fourdrinier paper making system where all of the water from the stock slurry is removed in one direction downwardly through the paper web, a sheet forming unit, including two spaced dandy rolls with a pocket roll inbetween, is added to press a secondary fabric downwardly on the top surface of the paper web. The pocket roll cooperates with a suction box below the paper web to remove water while the web passes over a low vacuum section and then over a high vacuum section and then over a low vacuum section of the suction box. This treatment produces a better internal bond between the fibers in the paper web and also produces better surface properties.

Abstract: A laminated carrier containing, between a base sheet and a cover sheet, a plurality of encapsulated liquid adhesive bubbles in spaced apart locations. The laminated carrier includes an adhesive backed paper strip including tear perforations between adjacent liquid adhesive bubbles, and a crush resistant element in the form of a wire may be laminated with the paper. The wire may have a sharp edge or apex facing upwardly from the base sheet. The strip may include other spaced liquid filled bubbles alongside the adhesive filled bubbles.

Abstract: A fishing weight especially designed for use with a hollow plastic lure having a loop at one end attachably threaded on a hook, from its point to its operative position stopped by an eye of the hook, the weight being adapted to fit within the hollow of the lure.
