  • Patent number: 6188894
Abstract: A method of identifying various cell layers in an existing wireless cellular-type communication system to identify poor performance areas of the system. Various cell layers in an existing system are identified, each layer have an associated cell size. A composite of the various cell layers is visually displayed to reveal poor performance areas which can be utilized as a baseline for further investigation and analysis. The method includes the steps of determining average site-to-site distance between each site and its neighboring sites, and then determining an average cell radius for each site based on the average site-to-site distance. The most predominant cell radius is then identified and used as the anchor base line grid. Each site is then assigned a cell radius which is established by rounding the calculated average cell radius either up or down to a nearest grid size.

  • Patent number: 6173180
Abstract: A system and method of providing preferential access to a cellular telecommunications network to a localized service area (LSA) subscriber who subscribes to a LSA and is operating a mobile station (MS) within the LSA. The cells which are included in the LSA are defined in a base station controller (BSC). The LSA subscriber's subscription information in the home location register (HLR) identifies any LSAs to which the subscriber subscribes. A Preferential Priority Indicator (PPI) property may also be set for the MS in the HLR. The PPI property indicates that the MS is to be granted preferential access whenever the PPI property is set. A Preferential Priority Network Indicator (PPN) property is also set in the BSC that indicates that the BSC supports use of the PPI property whenever the PPN property is set. When the MS originates a call, the BSC derives a second LSA-ID from the Cell-ID for the cell where the call originated.

  • Patent number: 6169683
Abstract: An externally-driven synchronous rectifier circuit (18) comprises first and second synchronous rectifiers (SQ1, SQ2), and first and second synchronous rectifier recovery switches (SQ3, SQ5), and a pair of resonant inductors (LR1, LR2). The resonant inductors (LR1, LR2) store the energy normally loss during charging and discharging the input capacitance of the first and second synchronous rectifiers (SQ1, SQ2). The recovery switches (SQ3, SQ5) transfer the stored energy from the at least one inductor (LR) to the output terminal (Vout) creating a more energy efficient circuit (18).

  • Patent number: 6168344
Abstract: A bull rope safety release includes two shank pieces which can be joined together to keep a bull rope firmly in place over the body of a bucking bull or bronco. The safety release includes two D-rings which are connected to the bull rope and hold the safety release in place. A locking lever in one of the shank pieces has a hook which engages a brace bar in the other shank piece. The other end of the locking lever is connected to a pull cord with a wire or other means. A brace member is centrally disposed inside the body of the first shank and provides a support about which the locking lever rotates when the pull cord is yanked. A second lever is provided inside the second shank piece and can be likewise yanked to disengage the two shank pieces from one another.

  • Patent number: 6154650
Abstract: A combination mobile station and cordless wireline cordless base station, each having a different directory number, includes a mobile station that functions in a wireless network as a typical wireless unit. When the mobile station is within radio range of the wireline cordless base station, it retunes its operating frequency to that of the wireline cordless base station. The wireline cordless base station, when it senses that the mobile station is within radio range, notifies the wireless network of the wireline directory number of the wireline cordless base station. When the wireless network receives a call for the mobile station, it forwards the call to the wireline cordless base station over the wireline network.

  • Patent number: 6154534
Abstract: A system and method for deploying Local Number Portability (LNP) data including ported telephone numbers in a telecommunications network having a Number Portability Administration Center (NPAC) which stores a national database of LNP data. The system includes a plurality of primary network elements which store assigned subsets of the national LNP database, and a backup network element which backs up the plurality of primary network elements and stores the national LNP database. The system also includes a Local Service Management System (LSMS) which interfaces with the NPAC and transmits the national LNP database to the backup network element, divides the national LNP database into the subsets, and transmits the subsets to the plurality of network elements. The LSMS determines whether the LNP data includes a range of sequential telephone numbers, and if so, routes in a single message the range of sequential telephone numbers from the LSMS to the primary network element to which the range is assigned.

  • Patent number: 6111769
Abstract: An external driving circuit (21) for a bridge type synchronous rectifier circuit (20) having a first and second first synchronous rectifier (Q3,Q4), a primary driving circuit (14), and a pair of totem pole drivers (16,18). The timing signal for the first and second synchronous rectifiers (Q3,Q4) is derived from the external driving circuit (21). The external driving circuit (21) includes a first and second switch drivers (22,24). The external driving circuit (21) is interfaced with the synchronous rectifier circuit (20) by connecting first and second switch drivers (22,24) to the totem pole drivers (16,18). The first and second switch drivers (22,24) provides storage for circuit current which is fully discharged at the appropriate time to facilitate turning on and off the synchronous rectifiers (Q3,Q4).
