  • Patent number: 5387059
Abstract: A modified flute drill which prevents non-circular oval shaped drill holes which occur from incidental lateral or non-axial forces imparted by the operator is provided. The design modification is based on relieving, beveling, or dulling of the leading or side-cutting edge of the flutes of the drill bit for most of the length of the drill bit except for an initial specified length of the flutes where the leading edge of the flutes retains its sharpness and side-cutting capacity. The flute modification additionally imparts to the fluted drill a capacity of self-directional stability after the drill begins its penetration into the material being drilled, at the chosen initial angle of orientation of the drill bit, due to the absence of a side-cutting edge on the following major portion of the drill flutes.

  • Patent number: 5338457
Abstract: A process for removing aluminum and sulfate values from an aqueous solution containing the same which comprises passing the solution through a semi-permeable membrane in a pressure vessel. The permeate solution is depleted of aluminum and sulfate ions and the concentrate solution is concentrated in aluminum and sulfate ions. The concentrate solution can be re-used in alum manufacture and the permeate solution can be discharged into public waterways without further purification.

  • Patent number: 5338369
Abstract: A solar module design comprises a specially-designed substrate material with interconnected solar cells and topcoat laminated to the top surface by known polymer encapsulation methods. The substrate, which may be extruded in one piece or fabricated, comprises a twin-wall profile with ribs connecting the upper and lower surface. The twin-wall shape connected with ribs results in a substrate material which is very strong, stiff, and rugged, yet lightweight; and which allows the modules to be used as the roof's finished surface, yet allows outside air to pass under the photovoltaic cells to help cool them. Also, the substrate incorporates means of interconnecting modules and fastening them to roof decking or framing members and simplified means of connecting the modules to an external electrical circuit. The features of the substrate and module design result in modules which can be very large in format, yet which are very light and rugged compared to current art.

  • Patent number: 5333322
Abstract: A modular seat unit devised to be lowered into and secured to the perimeter wall at the shallow end of a swimming pool is provided. The modular seat unit affords a swimming pool owner with an in-pool seating accessory which is conveniently attached to a swimming pool wall and used by an occupant while still in the swimming pool. The pre-formed seating module is devised to include hydrotherapy water/air jets to produce pressurized, therapeutic water turbulence and includes conveniently accessible means for controlling the water flow to the seat cavity. An adapter to hold the pole of an umbrella to shelter the seat's occupant from the sun's rays is integrated into the module.

  • Patent number: 5263570
Abstract: A system and method is provided for expeditiously locating an emergency situation of a conveyor. An emergency switch is connected to a conveyor to indicate an emergency situation. When the emergency switch indicates an emergency situation, a light is illuminated by an indicator circuit. The indicator light system allows an emergency situation to be easily observed at a distance from the conveyor.

  • Patent number: 5251656
Abstract: An automatic swimming pool chemical feeder designed to operate on the pressure side of the filter system and which combines two independent feeding compartments is provided. A first compartment contains, for dispensing, a solid material such as water soluble chlorine tablets which erode by water flow in contact therewith and the second compartment contains a liquid also to be dispensed. Material from both compartments is dispensed as a liquid. The solid material is liquified by introducing a dissolving liquid such as water into the first compartment to dissolve at least the lower part of the solid material. The apparatus is connected in the line of a flowing liquid stream such as a swimming pool recirculation system. Liquid from both compartments is dispensed as desired in predetermined quantities from the bottom of each compartment into the pressure side of a line carrying the flowing stream into which the apparatus is connected.

  • Patent number: 5228148
Abstract: A modular seat unit to be incorporated into the perimeter wall of a swimming pool is provided. The modular seat is devised to afford a purchaser the option of incorporating the unit into a swimming pool by removing one or more modular wall panels which forming the perimeter of the swimming pool and substituting therefor and securing the seat unit into position in place of the omitted vertical wall panel or panels thereby integrating the seat into the perimeter of the swimming pool. The seat unit is provided with a console accessible to the seat occupant to locate controls such as for water flow from the swimming pool supply into the seat recess. The seating area is devised to include hydrotherapy air jets to produce therapeutic water turbulence. An adapter to hold the pole of an umbrella to shelter the seat occupant from the sun's rays and to function as a safety guard is also provided in the horizontal surface of the seat module. The construction provides a seat for an occupant to rest in the pool.

  • Patent number: 5158258
Abstract: A fabric holding device is provided for use primarily to hold down a spread out fabric web, such as a beach blanket, towel, or sheet. The device is devised to be easily inserted into sandy soil to prevent the spread out blanket from being flipped over, crumpled or otherwise disturbed or blown away by prevailing wind or by movement of an occupant on the spread out blanket. The holding device is devised to be easily inserted and retained in the sand with one such device preferably being disposed at each corner of the spread out fabric sheet material, e.g., a beach blanket. A portion of the fabric such as a corner of the blanket is inserted into an open top slot which is formed in the upper part of the device, said fabric being securely gripped in the slot against dislodgement.

  • Patent number: 5107551
Abstract: A versatile swimming pool coping having at least three horizontal securing channels which open inward to the pool when the coping is positioned at the top of a swimming pool wall for accommodating a plurality of accessories for the swimming pool. The coping is contoured to provide a smooth transition at the corner formed at the juncture of the top of the vertical wall and the horizontal deck around the swimming pool. In a particular embodiment the coping accommodates the bead, of a one-piece vinyl liner which covers the floor and vertical walls, in the bottom channel, a decorative element such as a decorative or light providing strip in a middle channel, and the bead of an accessory which is relatively frequently installed and removed in an upper channel. Also integrally formed as a part of the coping are means to secure the coping at the top of a swimming pool wall. The successive channels above the liner bead holding channel are set back step-wise.
