Abstract: Described is a dispensing unit of a volatilizable substance capable of visible determination of its extent of use. The unit has a variably located centroid initially positioned proximate the geometric center point of the unit with the centroid moving downward when the unit is in use. As the volatilizable substance evaporates, a weight eccentrically located in the same place as the volatilizable substance angularly rotates about the "z" axis leaving its upper position and finally coming to rest at a lower position when the volatilizable material is used up. At least the final position is rendered visibly detectable by means of a simple sighting mechanism.
Abstract: A composition suitable for encapsulating articles such as small electronic devices and having improved tensile strength and other mechanical properties. The composition comprises a poly(phenylene sulfide) base resin, a non-reinforcing mineral filler and an ethylene/methacrylic acid copolymer. Also provided are a method of forming the composition and articles such as electronic components encapsulated with the composition.
Abstract: Described is the use in imparting, augmenting or enhancing aromas to or in perfume compositions, colognes and perfumed articles by admixing therewith an aroma imparting, augmenting or enhancing quantity of 2,2-dimethyl-4-phenyl valeronitrile defined according to the structure: ##STR1## Also described herein is a process for preparing phenyl butyronitriles by reacting isobutyronitrile having the structure: ##STR2## with a styrene derivative defined according to the structure: ##STR3## according to the reaction: ##STR4## in the presence of a catalyst selected from the group consisting of sodium hydride and lithium diisopropyl amide having the structure: ##STR5## at a temperature in the range of from about 90.degree. C. up to about 130.degree. C. yielding more than about 65% by weight of product wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are the same or different and each represents hydrogen or methyl.

Abstract: Described are methods for effecting the controlled release of fragrance materials over a relatively long period of time for the purpose of air treatment and scenting. Optionally in the same time frame the methods can effect an initial "Burst" of the same or different organoleptic functional materials over a relatively short period of time. The air treatment agents can include but are not limited to insect repellents, air fresheners, odorants and deodorants. Also described are articles capable of being mass produced which are useful in effecting the controlled release of fragrances, insect repellents, air fresheners, odorants and deodorants over a relatively long period of time and, optionally, in the same time frame, effecting an initial "Burst" of the same or different organoleptic functional materials over a relatively short period of time. Also described is apparatus specifically designed to utilize such articles.
Abstract: Described are multi-layer, multi-functional volatilizable substance delivery articles. The articles are constructed in order to deliver, in sequentially-timed fashion, to the environment surrounding the article (e.g., atmosphere, or body of water) different fish feed attractants, repellents, combinations thereof, perfumes having different aroma profiles, insect repellents which repel different insects . . . during the day time hours and during the night time hours, air freshener-insect repellent combinations, perfume-air freshener combinations and the like. The article can be constructed where one of the layers is a gel layer and the matrix layer adjacent thereto is composed of perfume-containing particles which emit a fragrance in a sustained release fashion.
Abstract: Described is an air-tight flexible transparent container containing at least one living flower immersed in an aqueous suspension. The article is useful (i) for display purposes; and/or (ii) for analysis of the head space in the container above the living flower when the container is fitted with a tube effecting communication of the internal 3-space (internal volume) of the container with outside analytical means and/or (iii) for aromatizing the environment surrounding the container when the container is fitted with a wick effecting communication of the internal 3-space (internal volume) of the container with the environment surrounding the container.
