Abstract: A method is disclosed for controlling the viscosity of fabric softener compositions to thereby improve shelf life by first forming a microemulsion of a perfume and a surfactant by mixing a perfume and a surfactant at a temperature where each component is in the liquid state. Sufficient shearing forces are used to uniformly disperse the perfume in the surfactant to form a stable microemulsion of said perfume in said surfactant. The microemulsion is then mixed with a fabric softener base formulation.
Abstract: Described is a method of repelling insects by utilizing as active insect repellent ingredient 2,4-dimethyl-4-phenyl-1-butanol or .alpha.-terpinyl methyl ether (ORANGE FLOWER ETHER).

Abstract: Described is a process for preparing phenylacetic acid using phenylalanine as a starting material by means of first culturing one or more organisms from the genus Pseudomonas or from the genus Comamanas or mutants thereof; then intimately contacting the organism culture with racemic phenylalanine or L-phenylalanine or a mixture thereof in the presence of a gaseous oxygen-containing composition such as air and in aqueous media; and finally recovering phenylacetic acid from the fermentation broth.

Abstract: A fitment device is disclosed to be used with a "bag-in-a-box" packaging system. The fitment connects the bag with a valve system and contains a removable diaphragm. The diaphragm is opened by operating a snaring tool which pulls on a tab to tear out the diaphragm. A method of assembling the device with the entire system is also disclosed.
Abstract: Described is a two-step process for producing phenyl- and cyclohexyl-substituted oxybutane derivative-containing mixtures of our invention by means of first reacting methyl ethyl ketone with benzaldehyde in the presence of a sulfonic acid catalyst to produce a mixture of phenyl pentenone derivatives; and then hydrogenating the resulting mixture of phenyl pentenone derivatives in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst, as well as the product produced thereby; and perfumery uses thereof for augmenting, enhancing or imparting aromas in or to perfume compositions, colognes and perfumed articles.
