Abstract: A drum brush comprising a casing, a plurality of wire bristles at least partially within said casing and movable to selected positions in which portions of said bristles extend outwardly from one end of said casing, and a control rod operatively connected to said bristles and adapted to move said bristles to and from said selected positions, said casing having an open end through which said bristles may be wholly removed, a cap adhesively held on said open end of said casing having a bore through which said control rod extends and having a groove into which said open end of said casing extends, and crimps in said control rod for holding the bristles in desired position.
Abstract: An internal combustion engine of the rotary type which includes a cylindrical rotor having a skirt portion, rotating in an annular chamber, that comprises two arcuate walls of differing radii joined by relatively short, diametrically disposed sloping portions that serve as pistons. A sliding divider which extends through the annular chamber and the skirt portion establishes, with the sloping skirt portions, sub-chambers in the annular chamber in which compression of a combustible gas mixture and combustion of the mixture take place, the latter producing power for moving the rotor and the power shaft attached thereto. The divider is provided with longitudinallly spaced slots in which the rotor skirt is engaged whereby the divider is reciprocated as the sloping portions of the skirt pass through the slots.
Abstract: A process applicable to metal and metalloid surfaces for detecting and determining the boundaries of stressed areas and areas exhibiting chemical variations involves ascertaining at a number of points on a surface the electrical potential generated between the surface and an electrode when both are in contact with a solution of an electrolyte. The surface and electrode may be of the same material or different and the electrolyte may be a soluble salt of the same metal as either the surface or the electrode or of another metal. The testing can be carried out by hand or automatically. Apparatus suitable for carrying out the tests is disclosed, such apparatus including means for testing individual points or for obtaining one or more continuous readings of the generated potential across the surface.
Abstract: A modular rail fence construction adapted for easy erection and removal characterized by rails of predetermined standard length, posts that comprise a shell surrounding and supported by a metal pipe driven into the ground, the post shells being assembled, on site if desired, to provide posts of the various types required, and connecting devices for joining the rails and posts that allow relative angular movement therebetween.
Abstract: An ornamental display which simulates a fishbowl with one or more imitation fish moving therein in circular paths, a dipping or bobbing motion being imparted to each of said fish at one or more points in said path by interaction of a wire projecting from said fish with a stationary cam wire.
Abstract: Bag holding and opening apparatus that comprises a container adapted to hold a stack of folded paper bags on a platform which is spring supported and by which the stack of bags are pressed against an abrasive faced roller that engages the top bag at a point adjacent the thumb hole at the open end thereof and frictionally holds said bag, whereby when the bottom end of said top bag is pulled outwardly the bag is opened.
Abstract: A signal for a rural mail box which is automatically moved from one signalling position to another when the door of the mail box is opened, thus indicating to an observer located at a distance that the box has been opened and that mail has been deposited therein. The mechanism for operating the signal includes a pull rod attached to the door of the mail box and having a lost motion connection with a spindle carrying the signal.
Abstract: Pigmented compositions in which the pigment is a crystalline compound having a composition corresponding to the formula CaTiZr.sub.3 O.sub.9 and a distinctive x-ray diffraction pattern.
Abstract: A multi-speed bicycle hub that provides means permitting only limited reverse movement of the hub by backwards motion of any of the attached driving wheel sprockets by a clutch and which provides a brake operated by substantial reverse movement of the sprockets.
Abstract: Flexible tubing, particularly suitable for irrigation purposes, consists of a plurality of superposed, elongated, flexible strips, heat sealed along their longitudinal edges and is substantially flat when empty. At least one of said strips is thermoplastic and at least one has a permeable, fibrous structure and is preferably formed from a non-woven fabric such as spun-bonded polyethylene fiber.
