Abstract: Non-focusing solar energy concentration apparatus comprising one or more solar energy absorbing surfaces defining a first area and solar energy transmissive material disposed adjacent the absorbing surfaces and defining an incident surface having a second area greater than the first area, the incident surface being arranged to receive incident radiation from the sun, the solar energy transmissive material also defining a second surface for transmitting radiation to the at least one absorbing surface, the transmissive material having an index of refraction and a configuration selected to provide total internal reflection at the incident surface of radiation incident on the incident surface within a predetermined azimuthal range.

Abstract: A side terminal battery adapter for connecting auxiliary cables to a side terminal of a side terminal battery includes resiliently urged opposed clamp halves adapted for fitting over and gripping the terminal. A gripping surface on the adapter permits connection of the auxiliary cables thereto using conventional gripping jaws. Alternatively, the adapter may be pivotably integrated with the gripping jaws of the auxiliary cables and retained in a selectable angular orientation with respect thereto by interengagement of circularly positioned teeth on the adapter and on the gripping jaws.

Abstract: There is described methods and circuitry for decoding modified frequency modulated (MFM) information signals as obtained from rotating magnetic storage devices, such as floppy disks and hard disks used in computers. The novel technique involves twice squaring an information carrying data signal mathematically and without saturation, deriving a clock signal from the twice squared data signal using a phase lock loop and thereafter recovering an information signal from said data signal and clock signal.

Abstract: A flip adapter for enabling connection of auxiliary cables to a side terminal of a side terminal battery includes a clamp adapted for fitting over and gripping the side terminal. The adapter is stored against the outside of one of the jaws of the connector of the auxiliary cables and is hinged to the connector for flipping one end of the adapter between the opposed jaws of the auxiliary connector to rotate the adapter forward into its operative position and to firmly retain it in that position.

Abstract: An adapter for adapting auxiliary connectors to side terminal batteries includes a portion which flips from a stored position against the exterior of one of the jaws of the auxiliary connector to an operative position between the jaws with a connector portion extending forward for attachment to the side terminal of a side terminal battery. A pair of slots in the flip adapter are engaged by a pair of teeth in the opposed jaw of the auxiliary connector to hold the flip adapter rigidly in its operative position.

Abstract: A tongueless shoe includes a deep U-shaped opening forward of a foot-receiving opening for permitting the insertion therein of a heavily bandaged or protected foot. A removable tongue is attachable to bridge the U-shaped opening. A cushioning insert portion may be employed similar to the sock for protecting the foot when the sock-enclosed foot is worn inside the shoe portion. When the cushioning insert portion is employed, the tongue is removed. The insert portion is secured in place in the shoe portion by fastening means on a collar surrounding the foot-receiving openings of the insert portion and the shoe portion. Closure means such as straps or laces close the U-shaped opening over the foot.

Abstract: The bottoms of transverse slats making up the upper run of a treadmill of a horse exerciser slide along the flat upper surfaces of a plurality of longitudinal support rails to provide a stable surface for the hooves of a horse being exercised. The transverse slats are affixed to links of two roller chains which are guided by and/or driven by sprockets. Each transverse slat includes an upper surface of wear-resistant resilient material which permits use of the exerciser by horses shod with shoes having winter calks.

Means are provided for preventing the generation of an alarm during low-gear start-up and/or during synchronized operation of the controls for gear changing.

Abstract: A method of constructing a poured concrete structure protected from corrosive agents includes applying large-surface sealing elements to one surface of the structure before pouring the concrete. The sealing elements are attached to anchoring elements extending into a region into which concrete is to be poured. When the concrete is poured inside the sealing elements, the sealing elements are anchored in place by the anchoring elements which become set in the concrete. The sealing elements may have a high modulus of elasticity and be relatively rigidly affixed to the structure of may have a low modulus of elasticity and thus require overlapping perimeter areas for sealing of adjacent sealing elements.

Abstract: Contact portions of a metallic contact strip for an electrical cord connector having mirror-symmetry with respect to a longitudinal axis of symmetry include a plurality of contact portions aligned in the longitudinal direction of the contact strip. Each contact portion is defined by a pair of complementary slits through the material of the contact strip to define a central contact portion and side contact portions. The central and side contact portions are deformed in opposite directions to receive the blade of a connection plug therebetween in 3-point contact. The ends of lengthwise-adjacent slits fall on a transverse line and are displaced from each other in the transverse direction.

Abstract: A battery cable connector for top and side battery terminals has two resiliently movable gripping members whose end portions are manually separable from a normally closed state to an open state and jaws formed on the end portions for engaging a top battery terminal when in the closed state. A side battery terminal clamp is connected to a support member which is pivotally mounted on the end portion of one gripping member for pivotal movement of the clamp, in a plane radial to the direction of movement of the end portions, between a retracted position wherein the jaws are free to engage a top battery terminal and an extended position wherein the clamp projects from the end portions and is free to engage a side battery terminal. When the jaws comprise meshing circumferentially positioned teeth, optional positions may be selected for the battery terminal clamp.
