Abstract: A component for use in a gas turbine engine is provided. The component has an airfoil portion with a plurality of internal cooling passages and a non-linear trailing edge. The component further has a non-linear array of teardrop shaped assemblies which form a plurality of injection slots for injecting a coolant fluid into a fluid passing over the airfoil portion. The teardrop shaped assemblies are designed to maximize thermal performance of the component by reducing a relative diffusion angle between the injected coolant flow and the streamline direction of the fluid passing over the airfoil portion.

Abstract: In a multi-chamber tube in which a partition extending longitudinally through the body portion of the tube divides the interior thereof into the plurality of chambers each for containing respective substances to be discharged in combination from the tube unwanted fluctuations in the amount of substances discharged from the tube can be reduced by the partition and the tube body portion being formed from sheets of different stiffness.
Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, a process for repairing metal workpieces, such as turbine engine components, is provided. The process comprises the steps of forming a braze paste containing a first nickel base alloy material containing boron and chromium and a second nickel base alloy material containing chromium and cobalt, applying the brazing paste to an area of the metal workpiece containing at least one crack, and subjecting the workpiece and the brazing paste to a brazing cycle by heating the brazing paste and the workpiece, preferably to a temperature in the range of from 2000 to 2200 degrees Fahrenheit. During the brazing cycle, the brazing paste flows into and fills the at least one crack and thus repairs the metal workpiece.
Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, an aircraft engine is provided with a component which helps reduce the noise generated by the engine. The component has a first aerodynamic surface, a second aerodynamic surface, and a system for reducing noise without altering a pressure differential between the first aerodynamic surface and the second aerodynamic surface.

Abstract: A conduit system for supplying, conducting and distributing fluids, especially air, comprising profiles, which have a longitudinal channel for the fluid and, in at least one outer wall, at least one recess for receiving a fastening element for a connecting element. The fastening element passes through the connecting element and comprises a clamping piece which is inserted into a recess and fixed in the recess by turning.
Abstract: An apparatus for securing loaded goods on the loading area of a vehicle or similar device in the form of a beam-like profile having at least one insertion profile (30) that is mounted at one end on the latter, a pivoting head (40) of grooved cross section and a latching pin (60) that is mounted such that it can move relative thereto are articulated on the insertion profile by an axle pin (42) as a connection member for countermembers on the loading area or on a box body associated therewith. The latching pin (60) projects out of the grooved cross section of the pivoting head (40) from the latching body (50) towards the ridge plate of the pivoting head (40), and the latching body (50) is passed through by the axle pin (42) of the pivoting head (40) and in addition is assigned an energy accumulator. In the vicinity of the latching pin (60), the latching body (50) is provided with an eye (58) as coupling element for an actuating or tension bar (70).
Abstract: A needle apparatus (10) includes a tubular needle (20) with a sharp point (22). The apparatus also includes a shielding means and movement means (17) in which the movement means is temperature sensitive. Upon the needle being inserted into tissue the movement means is heated by body heat and causes the needle and the shielding means to move relatively to render the sharp point safe. Preferably the movement means contains shape memory alloy.

Abstract: A method for achieving linear engine thrust response comprising the steps of measuring a throttle position (FNRQ), measuring a plurality of engine parameters, inputting the plurality of engine parameters and the throttle position into a plurality of schedules to produce a plurality of outputs, combining the plurality of outputs to produce a part power scheduled airflow (W2RSCH), and using the W2RSCH to produce a near linear thrust response of the engine.
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for cleaning a surface within a vessel. A fuel/oxidizer charge is provided within a combustion conduit. An initial deflagration commenced in a first portion of the charge produces a final detonation at least in another portion of the charge to expel a shockwave from the conduit which impinges upon the surface. The deflagration-to-detonation transition may be encouraged by mechanical enhancements and/or by making the first charge portion more detonable than the second.
