Abstract: The invention relates to 1-Benzenesulfonyl-1,3-dihydroindol-2-one derivatives of the formula ##STR1## and their salts, where appropriate, to their preparation and to pharmaceutical compositions in which they are present. These compounds have an affinity for the vasopressin and/or ocytocin receptors.

Abstract: A composition of super molecule active solid cleaning agent manufactured from super molecules and inorganic chemicals consisting of suitable amounts in weight percent of an anionic surface active agent, a sodium carbonate, a sodium silicate, a fluorescent whitening agent, a carboxymethyl cellulose, a non-ionic surface active agent, a di-sodium edetate, an oleic acid and an essence. Water molecules can be activated by the active solid particles as they are immersed in the water. The active solid particles may rub with each other to generate excessive amount of negative hydroxyl ions (OH) in water. Accordingly, the pH value in water increases and the water molecules are activated. As a result, the activated molecules of water may readily penetrate into the tissue of the fabric to weaken and soften the connection between the dirt and tissue of the fabric. The dirt attached to fabric can be readily removed.

Abstract: An improved, elongated threaded fastener is disclosed having a first portion with first threads and an adjacent second portion having second threads. The diameter of the second portion is greater than the diameter of the second portion, while the pitch of the threads on the second portion is less than the pitch of the threads on the first portion. The second portion is also formed with a driver engaging surface to engage a driving tool to apply a rotative force to the threaded fastener. A nut is threaded onto the second end portion to enable the threaded fastener to be utilized for nut packing or micro-adjustment.

Abstract: A method of making polyetherimide foam precursors and flexible polyetherimide foams having improved specific tensile strength, resistance to high temperatures and flame, low density and flexibility at both high and cryogenic temperatures. 4,4'-oxydiphthalic anhydride (ODPA) is reacted with an alcohol to produce a diester, which is then reacted with a suitable monomeric polyamine such as meta phenylene diamine to produce a precursor. This material is dried to a solid block or powder. Upon heating, foaming occurs, resulting in a fine celled white friable mass. The foam is cured by heating for a suitable period and is ready for use.

Abstract: Apparatus for cutting up carcasses in an abattoir, and in particular for cleaving them in two, comprises: a support beam securely mounted on a cleaving carriage via a pivot mount enabling the beam to pivot angularly about a pivot axis extending parallel to the cleaving direction; and adjustment means interposed between the cleaving carriage and the support beam to adjust the angular position of the beam about its pivot, and also to lock it in position. The apparatus is suitable for cutting up or cleaving in two the carcasses of slaughtered animals.

Abstract: A spool for a supply of fishing line is disclosed which serves too minimize the amount of twist imparted to the line as it is withdrawn from the spool onto a fishing reel. A cylindrical portion, about which the fishing line is wound on the spool, has radial flanges having different shapes so as to permit withdrawal of the line over only one flange periphery. The line may be effectively withdrawn from the spool only over the circular flange, but not over the opposite flange, which has a non-circular shape. Any twist imparted to the fishing line during its withdrawal is substantially compensated by the winding of the line about the fishing reel.

Abstract: An apparatus for controlling the radial clearance between a rotor and a stator of a high pressure compressor for a turbojet engine is disclosed wherein a plurality of segments which define an inner casing are attached to an outer casing so as to be radially movable. A parallelogram linkage interconnects each of the segments to the outer casing such that rotation of a control shaft causes the radial movement of the individual segments.

Abstract: A chain-stitch blind stitch sewing machine having an arcuate needle to oscillate about an axis such that it passes through material to be sewn. An adjustable stitch loosening finger is attached to the sewing machine such that its position may be adjusted between a thread engaging position and a non-operative position. In its thread engaging position, the finger contacts the thread during the formation of each chain-stitch between two entry sites of the needle to form an additional free thread loop. A relatively loosely sewn point is thereby obtained. When the finger is in its non-operative position, the thread between the two entry sites will rest against the material being sewn to form a tightly sewn point.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus for converting between reciprocating motion and rotational motion, and particularly involves such an apparatus used as a power output mechanism for an internal combustion engine. The end of a piston rod is connected to a cam device which follows a closed loop path defined by a cam track. The closed loop path includes a pair of generally parallel, substantially straight portions. The substantially straight portions of the closed loop path are disposed at an angle of greater than 90.degree., but less than 180.degree. to the longitudinal axis of the cylinder in which the piston travels.

Abstract: A powder for use in compressing molding is made by coating a high amount of filler by weight, for example calcium metasilicate with a thermoplastic resin, for example, nylon. The amount of filler to nylon is typically above 60% to 98% by weight of the powder. The resultant powder is employed in a compressive molding process in a metallurgy press to manufacture an article which is structurally stable, and which is later solidified and strength increased by crystallizing the nylon or resin in an oven raised to the crystallization temperature of the resin to result in a compressively molded article having high strength characteristics and requiring a small amount of resin as compared to conventional molding processes.

Abstract: A pickling bath for iron or nickel based heat-resistance alloy article having at least 3.5% molybdenum is disclosed. The bath consists of an aqueous solution of hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, acetic acid, phosphoric acid and further contains a ferric salt. Processes for using the bath to treat said alloy articles are also disclosed.

Abstract: Pharmaceutical compositions comprising mixtures of a histamine H.sub.2 -receptor antagonist such as cimetidine or ranitidine and sodium polyacrylate in a specified range of ratios have been found to exhibit synergistic effects in an in vivo test model for anti-ulcer or mucosal-protecting agents. Pharmaceutical compositions comprising mixtures of a histamine H.sub.2 -receptor antagonist such as cimetidine or ranitidine and sodium polyacrylate in the range of ratios are described for use in the treatment of gastritis or of gastro-duodenal ulcers. In a modification in the mixtures the sodium polyacrylate may be replaced wholly or in part by potassium or ammonium polyacrylate.

Abstract: A stator vane structure is disclosed in which a movable flap is pivotally attached to the stator vane. The flap extends from an intermediate portion of the vane to the trailing edge and may be actuated by a lever and cam mechanism.

Abstract: Skin care preparations and methods are disclosed which contain an effective amount to smooth the skin or reduce scale, of a uronic acid or derivative thereof and particularly a uronic acid urea condensate.

Abstract: A fuel and air injection system for a turbojet engine is disclosed wherein a bowl-shaped member surrounding the fuel injection nozzle defines an impact cooling chamber divided into four sectors. A pair of diametrically opposite sectors have openings to permit air to pass through the cooling chamber into the combustion chamber, while opposite diametrically opposed sectors have openings of larger diameter which also allow communication between the cooling chamber and the combustion chamber. A diaphragm control system allows the air passing into the sectors having the larger diameter openings to be modulated depending upon the throttle setting of the turbojet engine.

Abstract: A housing for a turbojet engine compressor is disclosed having inner and outer housing portions which may radially expand or contract as the compressor rotor wheel blades expand or contract, so as to maintain a minimum clearance between the housing and the rotor blade tips. A heat transfer manifold is applied about the outer periphery of the outer housing portion to rapidly expand the housing during transient operating conditions of the engine.

Abstract: Compounds of the general formula: ##STR1## wherein X represents a halogen atom or a trifluoromethyl group; R.sup.1 represents a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group and Het represents an optionally substituted C-attached 5-7 membered aromatic heterocyclic ring which ring contains one or more heteroatoms selected from O, N and S and optionally carries a fused ring and where an acidic or basic group is present, the salts thereof have been found to possess excellent metaphase arresting ability and are of use in combating abnormal cell proliferation. Thus a knowledge of the cell division cycles of the normal and abnormal cells enables a cytotoxic drug to be administered while the abnormal cells are in a phase susceptible to attack and while the normal cells are in a non-susceptible phase.The compounds of the invention are prepared by alkylation, deprotection of a protected keto group, oxidation or electrophilic halogenation.
