Abstract: A method for operating a door system having a stationary structure and at least two motor-driven door elements movable independently from each other, where the movements of these elements are controlled and coordinated by at least one higher-ranking processor or at least one higher-ranking program module such that preselected criteria (entrance capacity, heat loss, security, etc.) are optimally satisfied with regard to the traffic situation detected by sensors (density, space required, direction of movement, speed, identification of users) and/or ambient conditions (temperature, wind, pressure differences, air turnover required).
Abstract: Apparatus for raising and lowering boats in water. The apparatus consists essentially of at least one float that is attached to the hull of the boat and is guided along the surface of the hull of the boat at least partially below water level when a force is applied to it. Preferably at least two floats that are permanently or displaceably attached to the apparatus support in the longitudinal direction and are provided on the side of the support which is intended to accommodate the hull of a boat. The entire device is designed so it is adjustable in height and is connected to a stationary land-based mooring point with an articulated joint. This device is especially reliable for raising a boat out of the water and docking the boat above the water line without risking canting. This result is possible in an inexpensive and very simple manner with the invention. The usable width of the entire device is greatly reduced from previously known such devices.
Abstract: An integer for a private key is generated utilising a pair of components that are combined in a fixed predictable manner. The first component is generated from a sequencer such as a counter that generates non-repeating distinct value and the second component is generated in a random manner. By combining the components the integer has a unique and unpredictable value.

Abstract: A process for a vehicle control and information system in which data and traffic-related information are transmitted by means of at least one radio-transmission system between a vehicle and a central unit. A data-processing unit in the central unit and/or a data-processing unit in the vehicle are used to calculate at least one route, and the route data is transmitted by means of the data-transmission system between the vehicle and the central unit. The data-processing unit in the central unit and/or the data-processing unit in the vehicle simulate in real time the motion of the vehicle, the real-time simulation being carried out both in the vehicle-mounted data-processing unit and in the data-processing unit in the central unit using signals which are it transmitted over the radio transmission system. The vehicle position in the real-time simulation of the motion of the vehicle is displayed in the vehicle together with additional information relevant to the traffic.

Abstract: Prosthetic wrist implants, instruments, and methods for implanting the wrist implant. A prosthetic wrist implant is disposed between a patient's radius and carpal complex bones. It includes a radial implant component having an elongated concave articulate front surface and a rear surface which is screwed into the radial bone. A carpal bone implant includes a base member with a front surface and a flat rear surface which is screwed into the carpal bone complex. Alternatively, a post may extend from either the back of the radial implant rear surface of the carpal bone implant, or both, and be implanted into the radial bone or the carpal bone respectively. An articulating bearing member having a flat bottom surface is fastened to the front surface of the carpal bone implant base member and an elongated convex surface slidingly engages the concave articular surface of the radial implant to permit articulation between the radial and carpal bones.
Abstract: Apparatus for quantitatively measuring groups of magnetic particle. The particles are complexed with substances to be determined and are excited in a magnetic field. The magnetic particles are thereby caused to oscillate at the excitation frequency in the manner of a dipole to create their own fields. These fields are inductively coupled to sensing coils fabricated in a gradiometer configuration. The output signals from the sensing coils are appropriately amplified and processed to provide useful output indications.
Abstract: A dielectric face shield bracket that can be used to adjustably couple the face shield to a hard hat or cap. The invention is constructed solely of dielectric materials and, in one embodiment, comprises a two piece arcuately shaped frame where one piece of the frame hooks over the front brim portion of a full-brimmed hard hat and the other piece is coupled to a face shield. A flexible securing strap is coupled to the frame and extends over the crown of the hard hat, and the strap is used for securely holding the frame piece over the front of the brim portion. A pivot assembly is used in conjunction with the frame pieces to pivot one frame piece with respect to the other using a variable resistance pivot, thereby allowing the face shield to be easily locked at any position. In another embodiment, the flexible securing strap, amongst other elements, is eliminated and mounting brackets are substituted to allow the bracket to be adapted to a hard cap.
Abstract: This invention pertains to a novel paint brush with inverted bristle clamping panel, a removable bristle pack and a panel hinge yield mechanism. The paint brush provides ready cleaning after use by disengaging the hinged inverted bristle clamping panel, removing the bristles and thereby exposing all of the bristles to the cleaning solution. The panel has a resilient release mechanism which yields slightly when undue force is applied to the inverted hinged panel against the bristles.
Abstract: A method for promoting appetite suppression without promoting anxiety, by administering at least one kavalactone and at least one methylxanthine. The compositions balance the energizing effects of methylxanthine stimulants with the calming effects of kavalactone relaxants. The compositions of the invention are presented in a variety of formulations, with or without other active ingredients such as vitamins and minerals.
Abstract: A self locking disposable container, comprises a generally box like enclosed container having a top with a limited access opening for receiving medical sharps, a closure mounted within the container and moveable from a normally open position enabling passage of articles through the access opening to a closed position preventing passage of articles through the access opening, and a locking device within the container associated with the closure for latching the closure in the closed position.

Abstract: A process for dynamic channel allocation in mobile radio networks, wherein priorities which are increased or decreased in dependence on interference occurring in the channel concerned are established for the individual channels. When the propagation conditions are satisfactory, channels with low priority can be allocated. The mean of values dependent on the extent of interference can be formed in order to increase and decrease the priority. In addition, various priority lists can be established for various interference or load situations, or both.

Abstract: The present invention is a sensor having an electrode formed in electrical contact with a subminiature through hole. Because of the small diameter of the through hole, the material that fills the through hole and the through hole itself have an essentially negligible effect on the sensor. A relatively large number of sensors can be formed on the surface of the substrate within a relatively small fluid flowcell. Thus, more information can be attained using less analyte. The sensors of the present invention are preferably disposed on an alumina substrate which is essentially impervious to aqueous electrolytes and blood over long periods of storage in potentially corrosive environments.
Abstract: A mouse encoding device that includes an operating interface for the user to operate on and a sensing device for sensing user input through the operating interface in order to modulate light pulses and generate encoded electrical signals. Through the rotation of a wheel in the mouse device, a mechanically linked photo-grid wheel is driven to generate a series of encoded signals. Furthermore, the wheel can move slightly in the vertical direction so that an activating switch can be turned on or off to produce yet another signal. Therefore, the movement of a mouse by a user is fully tracked.
Abstract: A method and apparatus is described whereby lightning within thunderheads and other cloud formations may be triggered in such a way as to minimize damage to surrounding structures and persons. The system consists of a high-pressure pump, accumulator, electrically actuated fast-valve and triggering system. In operation, through manual or automatic control, a high-pressure jet of water, which is rendered electrically conductive by traces of a solute such as salt or acid, is directed upward toward a threatening cloud. The high-conductivity swath of the water jet will act as a path for the discharge of lightning to the jet nozzle. In this method, lightning strikes may be diverted from sensitive areas to the apparatus.
Abstract: A method and system for determination of dynamic traffic information or traffic events. Relevant data from vehicle-mounted terminals are recorded automatically, by remote interrogation or manually, and transmitted directly, together with a location identifier, via a wide-coverage mobile-telephone network, for example, GSM, to other mobile-telephone subscribers and/or a higher level exchange. In the exchange, the incoming data are processed and fed to selected terminals and/or third parties. In addition, the results of interrogation, for example, braking behavior, can be pre-defined by a traffic-control center and transmitted by radio broadcast or mobile telephone system to the terminals of road users in a geographically limited area who can then "observe" the flow of traffic directly and immediately report incoming interrogation results by mobile telephone back to the exchange.
